I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND IT ROLLED BACKWARD. I WAS STRUCK BY THE DOOR AND CRUSHED BETWEEN THE CAR AND AN ADJACENT BRICK WALL.
MY VOLT WAS T-BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR BY A RED LIGHT RUNNER. I HAD JUST STARTED TO ENTER INTO THE INTERSECTION A SECOND OR SO AFTER MY LIGHT TURNED GREEN, SO NOT GOING VERY FAST. THE OTHER CAR WAS GOING 25-35 MPH (APPROX.). THIS WAS ON A CITY STREET, BOTH ONE WAYS STREETS SO THAT DRIVER WAS ABLE TO BUILD UP SOME MOMENTUM. I WAS PUSHED INTO THE CAR TO MY LEFT (DRIVER'S SIDE). THE DAMAGE WAS ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE CAR. THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT DEPLOYED.
WHEN PULLING INTO MY GARAGE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT WALL OF THE GARAGE (PHOTO 08); WHEN I SHIFTED TO REVERSE, THE CAR CAREENED OUT OF THE GARAGE, ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY, AND COLLIDED WITH MY NEIGHBOR'S HOME (PHOTO 09), LEAVING SKID MARKS (PHOTOS 06 & 07) ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS IN NORMAL ELECTRIC MODE AT THE TIME. I PURCHASED THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR ON MAY 3RD FROM DAVE GILL CHEVROLET IN COLUMBUS, OH. THERE WERE 12,490 MILES ON THE CAR AT PURCHASE AND A LITTLE LESS THAN 14,000 MILES AS THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. I AM UPLOADING NINE (9) PHOTOS.
URGENT URGENT. THIS IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE 2017 VOLT. MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE FOUND TWO OTHERS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TOO. GM DIDN'T EVEN INVESTIGATE BEFORE DENYING LIABILITY, THEY MADE A DETERMINATION OVER PHOTOS. ALL 3 VEHICLES HAD OVER 20K MILES ON IT. OTHERS LIVES MAY BE IN DANGER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
This car has a failed EGR valve which first became evident in March of 2024. There are no parts available, this in an emissions issue but the failure causes blown fuses which can cause the car to completely stop running which is a safety issue. Reduced propulsion is a symptom which is dangerous and this has been confirmed by three Chevy dealerships. I have had the EGR valve cleaned to the tune of $1200, have a deposit on a new valve which doesn't seem to exist for $850. There were no other messages before the failure. I am driving the car with the EGR valve disconnected, mostly on the battery power but no end is in sight to this problem.
In 2020 my 2017 Chevrolet Volt had an intermittent problem turning off. My Chevrolet dealer worked to fix the problem. This March I had an accident which involved me thinking the car was shut down. I was half way out of the car when I realized it was moving. Before I could get completely in to apply the brakes, I had hit and pushed an object into a building which caused damage to the building and my car. The was a police report which states that I was at fault. My car was towed to my. Chevrolet dealer for repair. The repair took about two months mostly due to obtaining shifting parts. I can now drive the car but the parts to replace the shifting mechanism is still on back order. It is now early October. The “shift into park” as I think the problem has been named, is still an intermittent problem for me. Sometimes the car shuts down promptly as it should. Sometimes however, I go though the process of shutting down a few times before I am confident that the car has really turned off. I would like to know if this defect has caused other accidents. If so, it my mitigate my responsibility for my my accident which has caused me grief and a large increase in my insurance premium. Another reason I am writing is because There has been a report of a fatal accident in Vienna Township, near Flint, Michigan involving a women being pinned under her car after exiting to check her mail box. The article in “M-Live” paper by Joey Oliver [XXX]. The supposition was that she thought her car was in park. I am hoping that the investigators of her accident would consider the possibility of the car being defective. I believe the police report number [XXX] by officer [XXX]. [XXX], 8525 E. Government center dr., Sutton Bay, MI 49653 I have pictures of the accident, etc but don’t know how to upload them Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I PURCHASED A NEW 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT EQUIPMENT WITH AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2017, I WAS DRIVING ON BATH STREET IN SANTA BARBARA. I DECIDED TO PARK ON BATH AT PUEBLO STREET. THE FIRST TIME, I ENGAGED THE APA FEATURE TO ASSIST WITH PARALLEL PARKING, I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTION TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO REVERSE. THE MOMENT I COMPLETED THE SHIFT AND I LIFTED BY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY IN REVERSE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL IT HAD JUMPED THE CURB AND SIDESWIPED A TELEPHONE POLE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALER AND FILED A CLAIM FOR PRODUCT DEFECT WITH GENERAL MOTORS. GENERAL MOTORS HAS SUBSEQUENTLY DECLINED THE CLAIM.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH the message "low brake fluid" suddenly displayed before multiple warning lights began to illuminate and the vehicle stalled. While the vehicle was coasting on the shoulder the contact discovered that the braking system had malfunctioned and the vehicle did not stop when pressing the brake pedal. After coasting to a stop the contact noticed smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. Eventually, the flames engulfed the front end of the vehicle and the fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A fire report was taken at the scene. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Went into a store to pick up a snack and the cashier noticed that my driver side door was on fire. The entire indoor panel was melted and burned. It looked like the fire started on the inside of the door panel where the wiring is. The car was turned off at the time of fire
Unknown what caused the fire per fire department. I drove to my bosses house and parked the car for about 15 minutes. I was about to leave in the car right before the fire started. At 12:05PM on 09/22/21 the car started smoking and fire appearing under the car. My safety and other by standers was put at risk by the thick black smoke and flying debris from the car. Thankfully I was not driving when the car caught fire. There were 4 different explosions two of which I believe were the two front tires and the gas tank. The Saint Louis County police and West County EMS & Fire protection both took a report but I do not have a copy of it. No warning signs or lights on the car when I parked it.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated while the vehicle was standstill when the battery charger plug caught fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with his fire extinguisher. The fire department nor the police department was not contacted. The contact stated no one was injured or seek medical attention. The contact stated the vehicle was still drivable but unable to charge to drive. The contact called the local dealer and was made aware the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The charger that was supplied with the new car caught fire in the J Connector handle and melted (pictures attached). this happened in my garage and I discovered it within 3 hours after it happened due to a chemical smelling smoke haze in the garage, and a pile of ash on the floor under the J Connector. There was no other damage other than the connector and it took a few hours to air out the garage. I had plugged it in to be charged at 12 amps with the dash indicating "7 miles" of charge left. The dash indicated "9 miles" of charge available after the fire (full charge this time of year is approximately 58 miles). The fire went out on its own. The charger has been plugged in the same outlet for the last 3 years and there is almost no load on that circuit other than the car (exterior lighting that has 4 led bulbs of low lumens). After the fire my wife recalled that she thought the charger handle felt hot once the previous week when she unplugged it. This is a serious safety issue because it could have started a house fire and risked the health, lives, and safety of my family--5 of us and a dog, nevermind the damage to property and risk to first responders. I reported this to the dealer I bought the 2017 Volt from new, which is Fitzgerald Auto in Frederick, Maryland. They asked me to bring the charger and car out same day which I did. It took them 3 days to call me and inform me solely that the charger is not covered under warranty anymore because it has been more than 3 years and 36 thousand miles since I purchased the car, and they told me technically it is "an accessory" and not part of the car. They asked me to purchase another charger from them at more than $600 which I declined to do. I do not know if they informed Chevrolet/General Motors of the issue or sent the damaged charger in for analysis. They did not comment at all on the safety part of it.
I LEASED THIS CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2017. ON NOVEMBER 30, 2018, I GOT ONTO THE FREEWAY WHILE RUNNING ON GAS AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING WITHIN ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL ISSUES OR ANY WARNING SIGNS. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE COUNTLESS TIMES ON GAS RATHER THAN ELECTRIC CHARGE. THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR, ALL WINDOWS, THE FRONT TIRES, AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I HAVE SEEN 2 OTHER REVIEWS ON THIS WEBSITE ABOUT SPONTANEOUS VEHICLE FIRES.
MY CAR HAS HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE ALMOST THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP. MY CAR HAS HAD CONSTANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I CONTACTED GM AND EVEN SHOWED THEM A VIDEO THAT SHOWED WHAT MY CAR WAS DOING AS FAR AS NOT TURNING OFF WHEN I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I WOULD APPEAR TO SHUT OFF ONLY TO TURN BACK ON REPEATEDLY. GM DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO FIX MY ISSUES EXCEPT RUN IN CIRCLES AND CLAIM THEY COULDN'T/WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT CAUSE THE DEALER COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH I HAD VIDEO PROOF OF WHAT MY CAR WAS DOING TO ME. IT ONLY HAPPENED AT RANDOM AND WAS VERY SPORADIC. MY CAR HAS NOW CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO ALMOST NOTHING AND I AM OUT A LOT OF MONEY. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT MY SITE WWW.CHEVYVOLTSUCKS.COM TO SAY I AM PISSED AT GM IS AN EXTREME UNDERSTATEMENT. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WERE MADE AND ONLY PROVED TO BE A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND GIVEN LAME EXCUSES. I ALSO HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS OUT OF THE RIMS BENDING CAUSING REPLACEMENT OF THESE RIMS ON AN EXTENDED CONTRACT I HAD THAT COVERED THE RIMS AND TIRES. I HAVE OWNED NUMEROUS CARS OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER BENT A RIM IN MY LIFE UNTIL THIS CAR AND IT WAS OVER 4 RIMS BENT IN TOTAL IN LESS THAN A YEAR OF OWNING THIS CAR.
ON SAT APRIL 7TH, MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT RANDOMLY CAUGHT FIRE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND EXIT THE VEHICLE ONLY SUFFERING FROM SMOKE INHALATION. THIS WAS MY SECOND VOLT AND I HAD DRIVEN IT OVER 20K MILES. HERE IS WHAT I DO KNOW. THERE WAS NO WARNING, ONLY FLAMES ENGULFING THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. 8 DAYS PRIOR, THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP DID SOME RECALL UPDATES ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70+) ON THE GAS BACKUP MODE THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME DRIVING AT THESE SPEEDS ON 0 BATTERY AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT HAS BEEN 4 DAYS SINCE THE INCIDENT AND I AM UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED THAT NOBODY FROM GM HAS REACHED OUT TO ME REGARDING THIS INCIDENT.
The two original equipment hydraulic struts that support either side of the rear trunk lid failed. It is available for inspection. The safety of my husband and I is/was put at risk because when you open the trunk, the lid is not staying up like it did, causing it to crash down on your head, back of neck, shoulder, arm, hand, etc., causing injury that is potentially fatal. The faulty parts are still in place and not inspected yet by a dealer, service center, police or insurance company. No warnings given for this faulty equipment, hence the danger of its unexpected suddenness. It started about 2 weeks ago. I spoke with General Motors, the Florida DMV and the Chevrolet dealership where the car was purchased and is taken for repairs.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHETHER THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING OR JUST PHYSICALLY PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE, HE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE UNEXPLAINED NEUROLOGICAL INJURIES, HAIR AND MEMORY LOSS, MOLES, BURNS TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BODY, SHAKING, AND SEVERE SWELLING OF THE HEAD FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE CONTACT SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION APPROXIMATELY TWELVE TIMES AND WAS TO THE POINT OF ALMOST NEEDING A CANE AND A WHEELCHAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 48 HOURS AFTER BEING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, HIS HEALTH BEGAN TO IMPROVE SIGNIFICANTLY. AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED, THE CONTACT DOWNLOADED AN APP THAT TESTED FOR SIGNS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION. THE APP RESULTS IDENTIFIED HIGH LEVELS OF RADIATION IN THE VEHICLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MEDVED CHEVROLET (11001 W INTERSTATE 70 FRONTAGE RD N, WHEAT RIDGE, CO 80033, 888-730-2381) TO SHARE THE APP FINDINGS. WITH THE HELP OF THE MANUFACTURER, THE DEALER CONCLUDED THAT THERE WERE HIGH LEVELS OF RADIATION INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO STAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SHARED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SOME ELECTRICAL REPAIRS PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY; HOWEVER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS UNRELATED TO THE RADIATION FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LOCATION OF WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD CHARGE OVERNIGHT WAS ADJACENT TO HIS BEDROOM, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO HIS DECLINING HEALTH. THE CONTACT SUBMITTED A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH INCLUDED A STATEMENT OF EVERYTHING HE EXPERIENCED, VIDEOS, AND PHOTO EVIDENCE; HOWEVER, HIS CLAIM WAS DENIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
THE CAR WILL GO BACKWARDS WHILE IN PARK, SPECIALLY WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEPLETED. LATE AT NIGHT I HAD PARKED THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET GOT OUT AND WAS GOING TO MOVE A TRASH CAN OUT OF THE WAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO STOP IT BUT COULD NOT SO I HAD TO JUMP IN AND PUT ON THE BRAKES JUST IN TIME BEFORE IT HIT THE NEIGHBORS CAR. I GOT A BRUISE ON MY KNEE TRYING TO GET IN TO THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM AND VIDEO TAPE IT AS PROOF. GM ENGINEERING HAD SOMEONE COME OUT FROM RAYTHEON AND CHECK OUT THE CAR AND HE ALONG WITH THE MECHANIC AT MOSS BROTHERS CHEVY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM, AND THEY WANTED THE CAR BACK AT GM TO RUN FURTHER TESTS ON IT. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE CAR BUT I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PRICE DIFFERENCE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THEY HAD TO DELIVER THE CAR ON A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS DEEMED TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE COULD NOT TOUCH IT AT GM ORDER. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO REPLACE THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS UNPREDICTABLE HOW THE PARK AND REVERSE GEARS WILL ACT I HAVE MANY EXAMPLES OF THE PROBLEM ON YOUTUBE AND ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR WOULD NOT GO BACKWARDS IN REVERES AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT SUDDENLY JERKED BACKWARDS AT HIGH SPEED SCARING ME AND MY FAMILY. HERE IS THE LINK I PROVIDED TO GM BEFORE THEY TOOK THE CAR IN. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/PLAYLIST?LIST=PL7ETUGMNBO_7JQP6QEVYDSKWI7OOQF5_D I DON'T WANT SOMEONE TO DIE LIKE THE STAR TREK ACTOR WHO GOT PINED BY HIS CAR. ALL THIS HAPPENED A FEW DAYS AFTER I HAD PURCHASED THE CARD. THE DEALERSHIP HELD MY CAR FOR 30 DAYS BEFORE THEY RETURNED IT TO ME. THEY DID GIVE ME A LOANER FOR THE 30 DAYS.
