DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 100 MPH CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST RESULTING IN A CRASH INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER. ALTHOUGH SEAT BELTS WERE WORN, THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN A FATALITY. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. SINCE THE CONTACT WAS NOT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, NO OTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH ENTERING THE HIGHWAY, THE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN ACTIVATED AND RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND SPUN ONTO THE ROADSIDE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. ALL THREE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE WERE SEVERELY INJURED AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V524000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). MVA OCCURRED WHILE SWERVING TO MISS A DEER. DRIVER UNABLE TO NEGOTIATE THE RIGHT HAND TURN RESULTING IN A HEAD ON COLLISION IN AN EMBANKMENT. CAR SKIDDED ACROSS THE ROAD OVER A DITCH APPX 3 FEET WIDE AND APXX 1-2 FEET DEEP, THEN HIT THE EMBANKMENT HEAD ON AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED. DRIVER STATED SHE WAS GOING APPX 40-50 MPH PRIOR TO SWERVING FOR THE DEER, SHE THINKS SHE MIGHT HAVE SLOWED DOWN TO APPX 30-40 MPH PRIOR TO HITTING THE EMBANKMENT. AFTER THE INITIAL IMPACT WITH THE EMBANKMENT THE CAR ROLLED APPX 1.5 - 2 TIMES LANDING ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, UNRESTRAINED DRIVER HIT THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING BRUISING, CONCUSSION, ABRASIONS, LACERATION TO THE SCALP. NO PASSENGERS NOTED TO BE IN THE VEHICLE OTHER THEN DRIVER. WINDSHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE FAILED. PLASTIC CAP THAT BY FRICTION HOLDS ELBOW/JOINT OF BOTH CONTROL ARMS TO WIPER PIVOT POINT SEPARATED AND IS WORN AND WILL NOT HOLD. NOW THE DRIVER SIDE CHEAP PLASTIC CAP HAS FAILED. THE MOTOR WORKS FINE. INDEPENDANT REPAIR MAN SAYS HE SEES THIS " ALL THE TIME" PART VERY POORLY ENGINEERED NO RETAINING CLIP, COTTER NUT,OR SCREW TO GIVE STRUCTURAL SUPPORT. *TR
I T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 35MPH AND I RECEIVED A CONCUSSION FROM MY HEAD HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE MY AIRBAG SPLIT APART AT THE SEAMS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS THE CONTACT SWERVED IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING A DEER. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE HEAD ON AND THEN SWERVED AND STRUCK A SECOND TREE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE FRONT AIR BAGS AND SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED, AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. DRIVER WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD POP. SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED SHAKING BACK AND FORTH. DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A JERSEY BARRIER WHICH TOTALED THE CAR AND CAUSED INJURIES. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION REVEALED THAT SOMETHING SEEMED TO LET GO IN THE STEERING RACK. THE STEERING WHEEL CAN TURN 8 TO 12 INCHES FROM SIDE TO SIDE WITHOUT MOVING THE WHEELS. *JB
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON AND THEN WENT OFF. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT STEER IT. THE CONTACT STATED IT WAS A CLEAR DAY, THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC , AND NO REASON FOR HER TO LOSE CONTROL. THERE WAS A CODE FOUND, B2625 FOR DISPLAY DIMMING PULSE. IT APPEARED TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTING DISPLAY. THERE NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS POWER FAILURE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. FIRST PROBLEM WITH MY CAR WAS A SHORT IN THE BRAKE LIGHTS. CHEVROLET REPAIRED THAT. THEN THE HORN WOULD WORK RANDOMLY. CHEVROLET REPLACED THAT. THE A/C FAILED TO WORK ON THE DRIVER SIDE. CHEVROLET REPAIRED THAT. THEN THE KEYLESS ENTRY RANDOMLY STOPPED WORKING, CHEVROLET TOLD ME THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG THE KEYLESS ENTRY STILL DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. THEN THE CAR STARTED TURNING OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. CHEVROLET AGAIN TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM DUE TO NOTHING REGISTERING ON THE COMPUTER. MY CAR TURNED OFF MID TURN AND I HIT A BRICK WALL. CHEVROLET INVESTIGATED THE ACCIDENT AND TOLD ME MY CAR DIDN'T TURN OFF. I GOT MY CAR BACK LAST TUESDAY AND MY CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY CAR BACK TO CHEVROLET AND ITS TURNED OFF AGAIN. I GUESS CHEVROLET WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO REPAIR MY PROBLEM. *NM

I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED. I BOUGHT A 2003 CAVALIER AND THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH IT LAST WEEK. I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHO TO TALK TO BEFORE I TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTIONS. MY CAR IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON IT AND I KNOW THAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO GET A RENTAL CAR. WELL, HERE'S THE SITUATION LAST WEEK, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND WENT TO MAKE A TURN AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ON THE WAY TO TAKE IT TO BE LOOKED AT AND IT HAPPPENED AGAIN, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO STOP, THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING AND CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE, THEY OFFERED NO HELP AS FAR AS MY RENTAL AND WARRANTY. I AM ANGRY BECAUSE THIS FLAW WITH THE CAR COULD'VE RESULTED IN MY DEATH. IT TOOK OVER A MONTH TO GET SOMEONE TO COME TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR AND WHEN SOMEONE FINALLY CAME ON NOV. 2, THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THAT WAS IT. I TRIED MAKING CONTACT AGAIN AND GOT NO RESPONSE. I'M STILL WITHOUT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE EVEN IF I PAY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, THERE IS STILL THE CHANCE THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN.*AK

2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER- AT 64,000 MILES FUEL PUMP DIED WHILE PARKED AT A STORE UPON RESTART $700.00 REPLACEMENT. AT APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES FRONT CLUNKING NOISE STARTED, DEALER COULD NEVER FIND A PROBLEM, NOW AT 76,000 MILES, HAVING FRONT UPPER STRUT MOUNTS REPLACED. FOUND ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT SAME ISSUES. I DETERMINED CAUSE OF FRONT CLUNK ON MY OWN. ALSO, WAS IN COLLISION THAT INVOLVED FRONT DRIVER SIDE, DOWN DRIVER SIDE FRONT FENDER, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DON'T KNOW IF THEY SHOULD HAVE. NOONE WAS HURT, WAS SLOW SPEED CRASH. STILL CANNOT BELIEVE NO RECALL ON FUEL PUMP OR FRONT SUSPENSION. APPARENTLY GM DOESN'T WANT TO FOOT THE 700.00 BILL FOR THE FUEL PUMP DEFECT. *TR
THE CAR HAS BEEN IN TWO ACCIDENTS. THE BOTH WERE COMPLETELY REPAIRED, THE REAR LIGHTS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS DUE TO POOR CONNECTIONS AND THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER SUDDENLY STALLED IN TRAFFIC. IN ORDER TO PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, I ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WITHOUT POWER STEERING (DUE TO THE VEHICLE STALLING), CONTROL WAS LIMITED AND I ULTIMATELY RAN INTO A SNOW BANK. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD FAR ENOUGH TO PREVENT A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT INVOLVING OTHER VEHICLES. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART, AND I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE ON THE ROADSIDE AND GET A RIDE HOME. AT HOME, I PERFORMED AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER DRIVERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE, MOST OF WHICH ARE THE RESULT OF PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP. USING INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AND RUNNING INTERMITTENTLY IN ORDER TO GET IT HOME. ALTOGETHER, THE VEHICLE STALLED THREE TIMES DURING THE PROCESS, AND NOW WILL NOT START AT ALL. I HAVE CONTACTED SEVERAL MECHANICS WHO ALL FEEL THE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED AND I WILL BE TAKING IT IN FOR SERVICE TOMORROW. *TR
