TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 63 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN ANKLE, AND INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL INJURIES TO THE FACE AND HEAD THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ON OCTOBER 10, 2020. I WAS DRAG RACING MY 2008 CORVETTE (THAT I DRIVE DAILY ON THE PUBLIC ROADS) AT THE LOCAL TRACK AS I HAVE BEEN ALL THIS SEASON AND PART OF LAST YEAR'S TOO AFTER ACQUIRING THE CAR MID 2019. I HAVE BEEN DRAG RACING FOR THE BETTER PART OF 40 YEARS. I AM SAYING THIS TO ALLEVIATE ANY POSSIBLE THOUGHTS OF ROOKIE MOVES ON MY PART ON THE TRACK, ETC. THE LOCAL TRACK IS AN NHRA SANCTIONED TRACK THAT TAKES SAFETY VERY SERIOUSLY AND THEIR TRACK PREP IS SECOND TO NONE, ESPECIALLY AT THIS PARTICULAR EVENT, THAT IS ATTENDED BY HUNDREDS OF RACERS FROM MANY STATES. I STAGED MY CAR IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE TRACK WITH "COMPETITION MODE" ENGAGED, AS I HAVE EVERY TIME IN THE PAST. THE CAR LAUNCHED STRAIGHT AND TRUE AS IT NORMALLY DOES. THE RUN WAS COMPLETELY NORMAL AND STRAIGHT UNTIL AFTER CROSSING THE QUARTER MILE FINISH LINE, WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS, THE CAR MADE AN IMMEDIATE HOOK TO THE RIGHT, DIRECTLY INTO THE CONCRETE RETAINING WALL. I BOUNCED OFF THAT WALL, CROSSING THE PATH OF MY OPPONENT IN THE LEFT LANE, IN A NEAR COLLISION, BOUNCING OFF THE LEFT WALL, AND THEN BACK OVER AGAIN INTO THE RIGHT WALL. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR ON MY OWN. I WAS COMPLETELY STUNNED, BECAUSE AT THE TIME I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED ANY OF THIS. NOTHING MADE SENSE. BY THE TIME YOU CROSS THE FINISH LINE, UNLESS THERE'S SOMETHING ON THE TRACK, LOSS OF TRACTION IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY. IN MY OWN INVESTIGATION I RAN ACROSS MULIPLE EVENTS OF THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL THAT HAS HAD ACTIVE HANDLING ISSUES THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES SENSE TO ME THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TYPE OF ACTION WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN A HEAVY BRAKING OF THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL. MY SON RECORDED THIS PASS AND ACCIDENT ON HIS PHONE AND IT SHOWS THE CAR TURNING RIGHT BEFORE ANY BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON. ANY HELP OR INFORMATION YOU CAN SUPPLY WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU

THE CONTACT STATED SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SPUN AROUND AND COLLIDING WITH A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LEFT THE GROUND AS THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SKID MARKS ON THE ROADWAY. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT MENTION THAT PREVIOUSLY THE 'SERVICE RIDE CONTROL' MESSAGE DISPLAYED AS WELL AS 'IGNITION SWITCH' AS VEHICLE LAST ALL POWER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LOWER BACK, WHOLE LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT KNEE WAS INJURED WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,902.

DURING THE CRASH, THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND SUFFERED TRAUMA TO THE HEAD, A FRACTURED RIGHT ANKLE, AND VARIOUS TRAUMAS TO THE BODY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 67 MPH, THE LEFT REAR SUSPENSION FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VEER OFF OF THE ROAD AND CRASH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES CONSISTING OF A HERNIATED DISC AND SEVERE HEADACHES. THE POLICE ARRIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,125 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,125.
CATASTROPHIC ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE TAIL END OF THE CAR SUDDENLY FISHTAILED LEFT THEN RIGHT, TURNING AROUND 180 DEGREES, TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL STRUCK THE CURB OF THE MEDIAN, SEVERELY BENDING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL, AND DAMAGING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING TOO. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND MAIN ENGINE HARNESS PLUG THAT CONNECTS TO IT, I FOUND MASSIVE ELECTRICAL DAMAGE WITH A HOLE BURNED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE PLUG AND RECEPTACLE, AND PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE. THE ENTIRE ABS PUMP ASSEMBLY AND EBCM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND A NEW PLUG SPLICED INTO THE MAIN ENGINE HARNESS. I NOTIFIED GM BUT THEY REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT OR HELP WITH THE REPAIR.
CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO STEERING ON A TURN AT MODERATE SPEED ( 15-20 MPH) ON SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACE. THE TURN WAS TIGHT AND NEARLY A REVERSE IN DIRECTION. I APPROACHED THE TURN IN RAINY CONDITIONS TRAVELING AT 25 MPH ANTICIPATING THE TURN, LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR WENT STRAIGHT. I INFORMED STATE FARM INSURANCE, VOLUNTEERING APPROVAL TO EXAMINE THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. I ALSO CONTACTED GM CORPORATION. STATE FARM CLAIM NO. [XXX]. SIDESWIPED AND T-BONED BY TRACTOR TRAILER, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
C6 CORVETTES HAVE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DOORS SO IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN A DOOR WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEAD. HAVING A DEAD BATTERY, I PLACED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY TO JUMP START IT. AS I WENT TO MY TRUCK TO START IT AND CONNECT THE JUMPER CABLES THE CORVETTE BEGAN TO SLOWLY ROLL BACKWARDS - APPARENTLY THE HAND BRAKE WAS NOT QUITE SET ENOUGH (MANUAL TRANSMISSION). I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO APPLY THE BRAKES OR HANDBRAKE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF BATTERY POWER. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARDS, ACCELERATING, WITH ME UNABLE TO HOLD OR STOP IT. IT ROLLED ACROSS THE STREET, DOWN MY NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY, AND THROUGH HIS CLOSED GARAGE DOOR COMING TO A STOP AT THE REAR OF HIS GARAGE WITH A HEAVY IMPACT (OVER $11 THOUSAND IN DAMAGES). MY NEIGHBOR'S 2 SMALL GIRLS OFTEN PLAY IN THAT GARAGE WITH THE DOORS CLOSED OR IN THE DRIVEWAY. IF THEY HAD BEEN PLAYING OR ANYONE OR ANY VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE STREET AT THAT TIME THERE WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN ONE OR MORE FATALITIES DUE TO THE RUNAWAY DRIVER-LESS VEHICLE. ONLY LUCK PREVENTED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH POSSIBLE FATALITIES OR SERIOUS INJURIES. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN UNACCEPTABLE AND UNNECESSARY DESIGN DEFECT FOR C6 CORVETTES (AND POSSIBLY OTHER VEHICLES WITH KEY-LESS ENTRY AND ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DOORS). I BELIEVE THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND ADD A MECHANICAL WAY TO QUICKLY OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE IN EVENT OF A RUNAWAY SITUATION (THERE IS A MECHANICAL BACKUP IF ONE IS IN THE CAR OR IF ONE HAS THE TIME TO MANUALLY OPEN THE TRUNK - A SLOW PROCEDURE). *TR

ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE HIGH BEAMS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
My recently purchased 2008 was taken to the local chevy dealer for gas fumes in the garage. The technician reported "The smell is coming from the sending unit on the driver side. There was fuel dripping down the side of the tank and the tank was wet. So the sending unit needs to be replaced" The car has only 16,427 miles on it and has been garage kept. I believe that leaking fuel is a very serious safety issue and that the now expired special service bulletin 150682 should have been a mandatory recall.
Fuel sending unit in gas tank behind the drivers side is leaking gas making it impossible to park the car in the garage. There is a great possibility of fire due to this issue. No, I have not taken it to the dealer as of today but I am going to schedule it. No. No.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette equipped with Firestone Tires, Tire Line: Firehawk Wide Oval, Tire Size: P245/40/R18, DOT Number: (N/A). The vehicle was recently purchased, and three weeks later, the tire pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Discount Tire. The employees at that tire specialty store refused to service the tires. The contact was informed that the tires were over fifteen years old. The contact stated that the manufactured date was 4410. The vehicle was not serviced. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the tires met their standards for selling the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,800.
cracked fuel pump housing causing vapors to vent out possibly causing a fire if stored extended periods of time indoors, and if crack is big enough fuel will drip down the back of the fuel tank onto the exhaust and possibly starting a vehicle fire
Transmission gets stuck in park position and I am unable to shift it into any other gear. Unable to move the car if it's in a dangerous location.
Bought this vehicle recently and filled it up with fuel and fumes overtook the cabin area and some leaked out the top of the tank down through the tank support. From the research I have done, this is a common problem that Chevy has ignored. The parts are too expensive to just replace everything with new.
There is a strong smell of gas in the passenger compartment and a very strong smell of gas gas on the drivers side near the rear tire. The Chevy dealer has confirmed the the gas smell is due to a know defect where the fuel pump develops cracks in the housing because of the poor quality plastic used. The dealer estimates that it will cost between $3,000 to $4,000 to repair. This is a very dangerous problem. I'm afraid with the very strong smell of gas that an electric spark might cause the car to explode or when it's stored inside cause a vehicle and structure fire. Why has the NHTSA not made GM do a recall for this defect. It is a very serious problem. Owners of any C6 corvette are sitting on a time bomb and their life is in danger. GM has already admitted that it is a design defect but has only issued a service bulletin. Do something before people die.
This car has suffered a known defect that causes fuel to leak out of the tank when the tank is more than 1/2 full. Unfortunately, the leak in my vehicle occurred outside the window that GM arbitrarily set up. (10 years after vehicle put in service or 120,000 miles whichever comes first. My vehicle is a 2008 with 94,000 miles and the problem occurred recently and after GM's window. Therefore, GM will not fix this leaking fuel tank and correct a potentially life-threatening issue. The problem is that this is a serious safety issue with strong fumes inside the cars cabin and strong fumes outside the vehicle with leaking fuel on the tank. The fumes and the leaking fuel are both extreme fire issues. This is a known issue and a known condition that could cause fire and loss of life. NHTSA needs to issue an immediate safety recall to have GM fix all of these leaking fuel tanks.
Gas smells when tank is over half full it’s the plastic fuel system on to of tank is starting to crack and I was reading they have been recalled before but has gone off and this is danger and might cause a fire with the saddle bags across the back and only 30,700 miles on car
I just bought a 2008 Chevy Corvette convertible and parked in the garage. The next morning the garage has distinct smell of gas throughout the garage. If my heater to the house would have kicked on the house would have blown up. This is a safety issue which should be addressed by Chevy. After researching the issue, it seems to be a common issue, which should be a recall. Even after moving it outside, when I get in the car it smells of gas.
