The contact owned a 2006 Toyota 4Runner. The contact stated that her son was driving at an unknown speed when another vehicle pulled in front of them to change lanes without warning causing her son to t-bone the vehicle and sending the other driver's vehicle to spin crashing into other vehicles nearby. The air bags deployed however their son received 2nd-degree burns on their right and 1st-degree burns on their lower region, and a concussion. The contact was unable to confirm if any other persons received injuries but was able to confirm other vehicles were damaged from the crash. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to their insurance company's facilities who had stated the vehicle was totaled. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
DRIVER WAS MANEUVERING AROUND A VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT, WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, LEADING TO THE INCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5 APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MILES PER HOURS ON 88 WEST IN CALIFORNIA AND THE SUV EXPERIENCE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PASS 70 MILES PER HOURS. I THEN STEP ON THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD BUT THE SUV CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE FASTER THAN 70 MILES PER HOUR. WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ALL TIME BUT THE SUV COULD NOT SLOW DOWN. THE SUV THEN STRUCK THE REAR OF A PICK UP TRUCK IN FRONT. AFTER THE IMPACT, MY SUV CONTINUED APPROXIMATELY A HALF MILE AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND BRING TO A STOP IN THE RIGHT LANE. TOYOTA DOWN LOAD THE DATA ON THE SUV BLACK BOX ON 3/18/2014 AND SENT A LETTER TO ME AND MY WIFE THIS WEEK STATING THAT THE GAS PEDAL IS NORMAL. *TR
DRIVING IN OFFICE PARKING STRUCTURE, TRAVELED TWO FLOOR LEVELS AND DOWN TWO PARKING STRUCTURE RAMPS. AT SECOND DOWN RAMP, MADE A RIGHT TURN TO NEXT FLOOR LEVEL, AND WITHIN 21+ FEET (WITH THE DRIVER'S FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKES), THE SUV SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL, SIDESWIPE ONE CONCRETE COLUMN, FISHTAIL WITHIN THREE PARKING STALLS, AND COLLIDE WITH A SECOND CONCRETE COLUMN, WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION. THE SUV IS A TOTAL LOSS. INJURIES ARE FROM DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT. *TR
PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS, 10565915,10514762. BECAUSE OF MY COMPLAINTS TO SAFECAR.GOV, TOYOTA SEND ME A REPORT OF THE EDR INSPECTION. AS PER THE INSPECTION REPORTS, TOYOTA SAYS I WAS DRIVING 50 MILE PER HOUR WHEN THE TRAFFIC STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF ME. AND I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO STOP AND I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME IN THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED ON MAY 17 2013, BECAUSE I FILED A COMPLAINT THROUGH SAFECAR.GOV. WHEN I HAD THE ACCIDENT I CONTACTED TOYOTA FEW TIMES TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE REPAIR SHOP. HOWEVER TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO THAT. NOW THE EDR REPORT FROM TOYOTA SAYS, VEHICLE APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN ALREADY REPAIRED, SO MAKING A COMPLETE DETERMINATION AS TO WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY CANNOT BE DONE. THAT LETTER ALSO ASKED ME TO SEND ANY PICTURES OF MY DAMAGED VEHICLE. I SEND THE PICTURES TO TOYOTA AND NOW ANOTHER LETTER SAYING, AFTER REVIEW OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DAMAGE, THIS WAS NOT A DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT BUT AN IMPACT DIRECTED TO THE LEFT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT ABRUPT FORWARD DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY ESTIMATED DAMAGE TO THE WHOLE FRONT PART OF THE VEHICLE AND PAID $9300.00 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE TOYOTA DON'T WANT TO SAY THAT IT?S THE AIRBAG FAULT, BECAUSE THEN THEY HAVE TO RECALL ALL THE 4RUNNERS TO REPAIR THE AIRBAGS. ANYWAY I AM STILL ALIVE, AND I DON'T WANT ANY OTHER OWNERS TO GO THROUGH THIS KIND OF TRAGIC ACCIDENT. HOPE SAFECAR.GOV WILL WATCH TOYOTA FOR ITS FAILURE IN THE AIRBAG SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLES. ON MARCH 27TH, 2013 I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON A PARKWAY REAR ENDED. MY WHOLE SUV FRONT PART DAMAGED AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOYED. I WAS DRIVING AROUND 50 MILES PER HOUR AND A COMMERCIAL VAN IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY AND I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR, HOWEVER IT DIDN'T AND REAR ENDED. ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL EMERGENCY AND RELEASED. CONTACTED TOYOTA FEW TIMES ABOUT THE AIRBAG ISSUE AND NOT RECEIVED A GOOD ANSWER OR THEY DON'T EVEN WANT TO HEAR THE COMPLAINT. DRIVING IN RAIN ON FREEWAY CONNECTOR ROAD , 25 MPH, REQUIRED TO USE BRAKES DUE TO ANOTHER DRIVER ILLEGALLY SWERVING FROM SLOW LANE OF FREEWAY ADJACENT TO CONNECTOR ROAD, ACROSS TWO SOLID LINES, IN FRONT OF A CAR THAT HIT THEIR BRAKES, AND WAS REAR-ENDED BY A SECOND CAR, WHICH WAS IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD PLENTY OF DISTANCE TO STOP, BUT WHEN I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES, THEY INSTANTLY LOCKED UP AND MY 4RUNNER IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO SLIDE...NO CONTROL AT ALL TO SLOW DOWN, AND IT FELT LIKE I ACTUALLY INCREASED SPEED. I KNOW WHAT ABS FEELS LIKE, AND MY BRAKES ARE NEW, INSTALLED IN JULY 2012 AT A TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPT. THIS ABS SYSTEM FAILED! NO PULSATING FEELING, NOTHING BUT LOCKED UP BRAKES, WHICH RESULTED IN MY HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE TRUCK THAT MADE THE CHANGE, AND WAS ALMOST 90 DEGREES TO THE LANE WE WERE IN THEN TOOK OFF. HE WAS NOT HIT, BUT I CHASED AND CAUGHT HIM FOR CHP. MY 4RUNNER IS CRUSHED BECAUSE OF AN IDIOT, AND THE FAILURE OF MY ABS TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. I HAVE BEEN SAFELY DRIVING 44 YEARS. *TR

AS THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED CAUSING AND CRASHED INTO A RESIDENTIAL HOME. THE CHILD SITTING IN THE REAR SEAT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE HEAD AND LACERATIONS INSIDE THE MOUTH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY HAD A TECHNICIAN RUN TESTS ON THE VEHICLE BUT WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

WE WERE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC IN OUR 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WE WERE SLAMMED INTO FROM BEHIND BY A CAR TRAVELING AROUND 45MPH. THUS WE SLAMMED INTO THE CAR INFRONT OF US. OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND THE PASSENGER SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK UP, THUS CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES TO THE PASSENGER. THERE IS AROUND $11,000 DAMAGE TO OUR TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT, BUT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS HEAD DUE TO IT STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
TL* - WHILE DRIVING HIS 2006 TOYOTA RAV4 AT 60 MPH THE CONTACT FELT A JERKING AS IF THE VEHICLE WERE STRUCK FROM THE REAR. HE BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE''S 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGED CAUSING HIM TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SPUN SEVERAL TIMES AND FLIPPED OVER MULTIPLE TIMES COMING TO A REST ON THE VEHICLE''S ROOF. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED. THE CONTACT WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE, PICTURES, AND A POLICE REPORT AVAILABLE.
The Frame and Suspension Components of the vehicle have corroded or rusted badly and prematurely even though the rest of the vehicle is in excellent condition. This is a known and common occurrence with the 4th Generation Toyota 4Runner Vehicles such as this 2006 model. - Currently the upper Rear Differential Stabilizer Arm has completely rusted off causing handling problems with the vehicle. Many areas of the frame are rusted through making it difficult to jack up or raise the vehicle on a hoist. - Problem has been observed and reported by Dealer(s) and Independent Shops I have visited. - This has NOT as yet been inspected by manufacturer representatives other than dealers. - This first appeared in late 2012 when I purchased the vehicle used with approx. 75,000 miles. - In May 2015 I struck a deer with the vehicle travelling on a US Trunk Hwy and the rust problem was reported as being severe by the body shop who repaired the front end damage. Note: The corrosion, in my opinion, did NOT cause the accident with the deer.
Frame rust damage, normal street driving. Lower control arm mounts disintegrated causing vehicle to be not drivable. Along with complete frame rust that possibly couldve lead to even more dangerous conditions.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER ON HIGHWAY WHEN FRAME BROKE BY REAR TIRE CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN. I HAD TOWED TOO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE WHOLE FRAME WAS ROTTED FROM RUST AND THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER DRIVE ABLE. WHAT? IT RAN LIKE A CHAMP AND AND I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. DID NORMAL MAINTENANCE LIFE WAS GOOD. THE ENGINE OUT LASTED THE FRAME. THAT IS JUST CRAZY APPARENTLY THE 2006 TACOMA, HIGHLANDER, AND TUNDRA THAT USED SAME FRAME WERE COVERED BUT TOYOTA SKIPPED THE 4 RUNNER. THE FRAME COMPLETELY SPLIT AND WAS CLOSE IN OTHER AREA. THERE MUST BE SOME RECOURSE.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 4 RUNNER ON THE HWY. THE FRAME COLLAPSED BY THE REAR WHEEL AND I LOST CONTROL AS THE REAR END WAS "WAGGING". TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THEY WERE NOT OPEN OR UP FRONT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEMATIC DEFECT THAT TOYOTA HAS TURNED ITS BACK ON. THE TACOMA, HIGHLANDER, AND TUNDRA MODELS OF SAME YEAR WERE NOTIFIED AND RECALLED. THE 4 RUNNER OWNERS NOT EVEN NOTIFIED, VERY LUCKY THERE WERE NO INJURIES. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE OWNERSHIP.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER OFFERED A TEN PERCENT DISCOUNT AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
