I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY SWERVING TO AVOID COLLISION WITH OTHER VEHICLE THAT ABRUPTLY CHANGED LANE AND COLLIDED WITH MY VEHICLE. A RESULTS, MY VEHICLE STRUCK A CONCRETE BARRIER WALL OF THE ROADWAY, THEN BURST INTO FLAMES UPON IMPACT. MY VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY BURNT OUT AT A TOTAL LOSS BEFORE FIRE RESCUE RESPONDED. THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. PRIOR TO ACCIDENT I WAS HAVING NUMEROUS IGNITION RELATED PROBLEMS WITH MY CHEVY COBALT. *TR
INVESTIGATION: THIS IS THE INITIAL REPORT OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. THEY FOUND THE VICTIM DECEASED IN THE MOTOR VEHICLE, CAUSED BY THE DEFECTIVE CHEVY COBALT. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE FATAL ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO POOR PRE-TRIP PREPARATION BY CONSUMING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND POOR DRIVING STRATEGY. UPDATED 04/09/14
The contact owned a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that, while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed during an ice and rainstorm with poor visibility, a vehicle parked sideways in the middle of the roadway suddenly appeared. Unable to stop in time, the vehicle collided with the driver's side rear of the other vehicle, causing it to spin and veer onto the shoulder of the roadway before coming to a complete stop. The air bags deployed but failed to properly inflate, greatly reducing their effectiveness, which the contact held responsible for the various injuries sustained by the three occupants. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. All three occupants were transported to a local hospital by EMTs. The driver was treated for facial injuries sustained from striking the steering wheel. The minor occupant, who was seat-belted in the front passenger seat, was treated for injuries suffered to the right side of their forehead after hitting and breaking the front windshield, as well as a contusion across their chest caused by the seat belt. The contact was treated for a dislocated left shoulder and sustained multiple bruises. The manufacturer was notified of the incident, opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for further assistance. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.

STARTING IN 12/15, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY, THEN ALSO THE ABS LIGHT. PER MECHANIC ADVICE, I HAD A WHEEL BEARING REPLACED. AFTER THAT, LIGHTS WERE OFF, THEN BEGAN AGAIN SEVERAL DAYS LATER. MY MECHANIC SAID I SHOULD REPLACE THE OPPOSITE BEARING TO EVEN OUT THE TRACTION SENSOR. 1/21/16 I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL, TAPPED THE BRAKE, FELT SOMETHING LOCK UP IN THE FRONT END AND CAREENED ACROSS THE ROAD INTO SOME TREES. I ASKED MY INSURANCE CO ABOUT THIS, AND NOTIFIED CHEVY TOO. NOBODY SEEMED INTERESTED IN PURSUING THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT- TOTALED THE CAR. THANK GOD I WASN'T HURT BADLY AND NOBODY ELSE WAS INVOLVED. I KNOW THEY DON'T WANT TO BOTHER WITH ME BECAUSE I AM SMALL POTATOES. I FEEL I SHOULD AT VERY LEAST BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS I HAD DONE AND PAY FOR MY NEW (USED) VEHICLE FOR MY TROUBLE. I THINK MY DRIVING RECORD, MY FAMILIARITY WITH THE ROAD AND THE KNOWLEDGE MY MECHANIC HAS OF MY PROBLEM PLUS THE FACT THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS I SAW ON LINE SHOULD PROVIDE ME SOME HELP.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND FLIPPED OVER APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT AND WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LANDED ON TOP OF THE DRIVER. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED FOUR FRACTURED RIBS, A FRACTURED FOREARM ON THE LEFT ARM, A PUNCTURE WOUND ON THE LOWER LEFT CALF, A PUNCTURED LUNG, AND NERVE DAMAGE TO THE HIPS AND SHOULDERS. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), AND 14V153000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE ON OUR WAY HOME FROM CHICAGO (ON I-80/90) WHEN WE HIT A BIT OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND ICE. THE SNOW CAUSED OUR CAR TO LOSE TRACTION WHICH IN TURN CAUSED US TO HIT A GUARD RAIL HEAD ON WHILE GOING ROUGHLY 50-55 MPH. OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF EVEN THOUGH WE HIT THE GUARD RAIL HEAD ON. WE ENDED UP BEING PERPENDICULAR IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND WAS HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. AGAIN, OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF WHICH WOULD MAKE FOR A TOTAL OF 4 AIRBAGS THAT WERE AFFECTED. I WAS UNAWARE OF AFFECTED AIR BAGS - I ONLY KNEW ABOUT MY IGNITION SWITCH WHICH WAS FIXED MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. UNACCEPTABLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. MY SON WAS GOING TO WORK AND CAR LOST CONTROL IN A PUDDLE IN THE ROAD AND HE WENT UNDER A PICKUP TRUCK. POLICE REPORT FILED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HIS SHOULDER AND ANKLE GOT HURT. *JS
ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 3,2013 MY SON WAS ON HIS WAY HOME FROM THE JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY TRAVELING EAST ON VIRGINIA ROUTE 66 HEADING TOWARDS THE CAPITAL BELTWAY (495). AT MILE POST 26 ON ROUTE 66 HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN THE FAST LANE. THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT (APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH) THE CAR MOVED INTO THE MEDIAN WHERE THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES SMASHING THE FRONT BUMPER AREA, THE HOOD AND CRUSHED THE ROOF (BLOWING OUT ALL WINDOWS).LANDED UPSIDE DOWN IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE ON THE WEST BOUND SIDE OF THE DIVIDED MEDIAN. THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.THE CAR ENDED UP ON ITS ROOF. AN AMBULANCE AND POLICE BOTH ARRIVED AS WELL AS OTHER PEOPLE STOPPED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE MEDIAN. THE PASSENGER HAD TO CRAWL OUT OF THE PASSENGER WINDOW. THE DRIVER WAS TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE AND WAS REMOVED BY EMT PERSONAL AND FLOWN TO A TRAUMA CENTER. THE PASSENGER WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. THEY BOTH SURVIVED WITH INJURIES.WE HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR SHOWING THE DAMAGE. *TR
MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE EARLY ONE MORNING. THERE WAS NO RAIN OR BAD ROAD CONDITIONS AND PRAYS GOD HARDLY ANY TRAFFIC AT ALL. ONE MINUTE EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND WITHIN A SPLIT SECOND THERE WAS A LOUD THUD BELOW OUR FEET. MY GIRLFRIEND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WE WERE THROWN ACROSS THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE AND SLAMMED INTO THE GUARD CABLES WHICH AT THAT POINT IN TIME THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE GUARD CABLES CATAPULTED US BACK ACROSS THE INTERSTATE WERE WE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED. THE FIRST QUESTION OUT OF THE ARKANSAS STATE TROOPERS AND THE LOCAL COUNTY OFFICERS MOUTHS TO US WAS,"WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR WHOLE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL?". THE TROOPER WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT A "BLOWOUT" DUE TO THE FACT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO TRASH ON THE ROAD OR OFF THE ROAD THE ROAD THEY WOULD BE CONSISTENT WITH A BLOW OUT. THAT'S WHEN WE TOLD HIM THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NOT 9 DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND THE WHEELS AND TIRES AND BEEN ROTATED, THE OIL CHANGED AND AN INSPECTION COMPLETED ON THE CAR AND THEY TRIED TO SAY EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK. WELL NOW JUST AS A PASSENGER I HAVE 2 FRACTURED VERTEBRAE IN MY BACK, CANT SLEEP, HAD TO QUIT SCHOOL AND I HAVE NO IDEA OF WHICH WAY TO TURN TO GET THE HELP I NEED. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT HEADING WEST ON BELL RD. AND 43RD AVE IN PHOENIX ARIZONA. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED INTO THE INTERSECTION. VEHICLE PURCHASED 12/19/13 FROM NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ONE PREVIOUS OWNER WITH CLEAN CARFAX. 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER AND SLID OFF ROAD. VEHICLE ROLLED UPSIDE DOWN AFTER STRIKING TREE APPROXIMATELY 15 FT INTO RAVINE. DAUGHTER SUSTAINED IMMEDIATE HEAD INJURY CAUSING HER TO BLACK OUT SO SHE IS NOT ABLE TO TELL IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH STEERING, ETC. ALSO SUSTAINED BROKEN COLLARBONE AS SEATBELT KEPT HER FROM FALLING OUT OF CAR. REAR HALF OF ROOF WAS CRUSHED INTO REAR SEAT HEADRESTS. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED! UPON HEARING ABOUT GM'S RECALL ISSUES AND PENDING INVESTIGATION ON NEWS ON 3/13/14, NOTIFIED OUR INSURANCE AND ASKED THEM TO REEXAMINE VEHICLE BASED UPON CRITERIA MENTIONED IN RECALL ISSUES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY TRAVELED ACROSS BOTH LANES, CRASHED INTO A CURB AND THEN INTO AN EMBANKMENT BEFORE STALLING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BODY AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES HAD FAILED HOWEVER, DID NOT PROVIDE A REASON AS TO WHY THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,744.
DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE ON THE NORTH WAY AT 62 MPH. VAN IN MIDDLE LANE APPROACHED MY LANE TO WHERE I WAS FORCED TO MOVE OVER CATCHING RUMBLE STRIPS AND THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO ROLL SEVERAL TIMES, DURING THIS ROLL OVER, NOT ONE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. WE WERE TRAPPED IN THE CAR HAVING THE FIRE RESCUE TO FORCIBLY OPEN OUR DOORS. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY WIPED OUT. ALL WINDOWS IMPLODED, MINUS THE PASSENGER BACK WINDOW. INJURIES INCLUDED A BROKEN NECK, FINGER, GLASS EMBEDDED THROUGH OUT THE SKIN AND MANY CUTS WITH THE SEAT BELT AND GLASS, ABRASIONS AND BRUISES. THIS CAR WAS IN BRAND NEW CONDITION.
