HAVE NOTICED IN THE NEWS TWO ACCIDENTS IN WHICH A GM SUV SERIES (TRAILBLAZER/ ENVOY/RAINER) HAVE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER A FRONT END IMPACT. THE FIVE YOUNG WOMEN IN NEW YORK STATE AND THEN A STORY ON CNN IN WHICH A WOMAN WAS TRAPPED AND BURNED ALIVE OUT WEST. BOTH STORIES WERE LAST YEAR. I ASK IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF ENGINE FIRE AFTER FRONT END COLLISIONS WITH THIS SERIES OF SUV BECAUSE I DRIVE ONE AS MY FAMILY CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO ENSURE IT IS SAFE. I HAVE SEEN THE NEWS WHEN THE 5 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS IN NEW YORK, MAY 2008 I BELIEVE, WERE KILLED AND THEN JUST 3-4 WEEKS AGO, OCT 2008, THE NEWS REPORTED A YOUNG MOTHER WAS KILLED OUT WEST. BOTH ACCIDENTS INVOLVED A FRONT END COLLISION AND BOTH WHERE MID-SIZE GM SUVS (CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER, GMC ENVOY, BUICK RAINER). BOTH ACCIDENTS RESULTED IN FIRES AND DEATHS. THE NEWS REPORTED THE FIRE WAS TO INTENSE TO ATTEMPT A RESCUE IN THE NEW YORK CASE. IN THE CASE OUT WEST, THE YOUNG MOTHER'S TWO CHILDREN WERE RESCUED, BUT TO THE INTENSE FIRE SHE WAS UNABLE TO BE RESCUED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OR COMMENTS ON THIS OR IF IT WAS EVER REPORTED TO THIS AGENCY. I HAVE A 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER AS MY MAIN VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT WANT IT TO HAVE SOME UNKNOWN DEFECT THAT MAY CAUSE MY OR ANY MEMBER OF MY FAMILY A LOSS OF LIFE. FUEL GAUGE CONSISTENTLY SHOWED "EMPTY" AND EXTERNAL LIGHTS WERE ALWAYS VERY DIM. LACK OF AWARENESS OF FUEL STATUS LED TO BREAKDOWN ON HEAVILY TRAFFICKED ROAD AND DIM HAZARD LIGHTS CONTRIBUTED TO POOR VISIBILITY AND A FATAL ACCIDENT.
THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING FILED ON BEHALF OF THE VEHICLE OWNER AND DRIVER. THIS CHEVY TRAILBLAZER WAS INVOLVED IN A TWO VEHICLE, DOUBLE FATAL CRASH. THE FRONT OF THE TRAILBLAZER STRUCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF A CAVALIER THAT FAILED TO YIELD FROM A STOP SIGN. THE TRAILBLAZER STAYED CONNECTED WITH THE CAVALIER, FORCING IT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A LARGE TREE. BOTH OCCUPANTS IN THE CAVALIER WERE FATALLY INJURED. THE FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON THE TRAILBLAZER AND NO EVENT WAS RECORDED ON THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE. *TR

In a very severe head on crash 4/8/2022 the air bag did not deploy.
Brakes failed for no apparent reason around 8:00 am that morning. My friend and I was driving to my home in his 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer after many stops that morning. We was on the interstate doing 65 MPH. I noticed the traffic ahead approaching and I said "cars" indicating to my friend to slow down. He said "I have no brakes!" We narrowly missed the first cars and while readjusting we came into contact with the driver side of three vehicles rolling us on our side! I broke both my arms escaping thankfully with my life. We had no idea what suddenly and unexpectedly lost brakes. Weeks afterwards I started reading about the stabilitrac and steering sensor on the 1 of many Chevrolet vehicle defect issues. Around that year and I believe was the problem. I have been out of work and tried to explain this to people with no reply. I read an article about Chevrolet told about the issue and refused a recall. Senator Blumenthal requested an investigation but I haven't seen anything after a judge requested a Chevrolet CEO deposed. 2006 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER SPUN OUT ON SNOW WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. IT WENT TOWARDS THE LEFT THEN IMMEDIATELY JERKED AROUND TO THE RIGHT AND CONTINUED TO GAIN SPEED AS IT LAUNCHED US OFF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A GROUP OF TREES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T BUDGE, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO TURN IN CIRCLES NOT CONTROLLING THE TIRES AT ALL. THE BACKSEAT BROKE APART BEFORE IMPACT AND WAS THROWING MY TEENAGE SON AROUND IN THE BACK. THE FRONT SEATS BROKE LOOSE AS WELL AND SLAMMED BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER INTO THE DASH DURING IMPACT. THE SEATBELTS DID NOT ENGAGE TO LOCK INTO PLACE LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO AND DESPITE FULL FRONTAL DAMAGE AND A SUV DEEMED TOTALLED/DESTROYED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY, NOT A SINGLE AIRBAG DEPLOYED OR ATTEMPTED TO DEPLOY. WE WERE ALL TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND ALL SUSTAINED INJURIES IN THE CRASH INCLUDING CUTS, BRUISES, WHIPLASH, AND MY DAUGHTER HAD A CONCUSSION. MY DAUGHTER HAD A VP SHUNT PLACED IN HER BRAIN LAST YEAR AND COULD'VE EASILY DIED IN THIS CRASH DUE TO HER INJURIES. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THESE AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS NOT WORKING!!
LETTER FROM SENATOR NELSON ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING GENERAL MOTOR SAFETY DEFECTS. *LD THE CONSUMER SUGGESTED THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE GM AIR BAGS IN 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER, IN WHICH THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BRAIN INJURY AND HIS WIFE WAS INJURED, WHEN IT WAS IMPACTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, RESULTING IN LEFT A-PILLAR CONTACT WHEN THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY AND HIS SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS FAILED. THE CRASH WAS OF ENORMOUS SEVERITY, WITH A SPEED CHANGE OF 38 MPH WITH A LINE FORCE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE A PILLAR. *JB
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON CITY STREET AT 30MPH WHEN IT STRUCK A UTILITY POLE, SHEARING IT OFF AT THE BASE. VEHICLE THEN TRAVELED STRAIGHT UP A HILL AND STRUCK A HOUSE, COMING TO REST THERE. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT OUT OF STATE. I WAS TRAVELING DURING THE EVENING HOURS TO TRY TO AVOID HEAVY TRAFFIC. I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE DIM LIGHTS AND COULD ONLY PROCEED USING THE BRIGHT LIGHTS. THE NEXT THING I REALIZE IS THAT I AM UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. I THEN PROCEEDED TO SLIDE DOWN AN EMBANKMENT APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET. MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED ENORMOUS DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND MY VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY MY INSURER.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NOSE AND LEFT CHEEKBONE THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.

THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE FOR TREATMENT OF A CONCUSSION AND BRUISING. THE FRONT PASSENGER WAS ALSO INJURED AND SUSTAINED BRUISING. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND HAD GOT CUT OFF BY A CAR. I SWERVED AND AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR BUT ENDED UP HITTING THE MEDIAN ALMOST DIRECTLY HEAD ON. THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS SMASHED IN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE AIRBAGS NEVER WENT OFF, ME AND MY PASSENGER WERE BOTH WEARING OUR SEAT BELT AND I ENDED UP HITTING MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL LEAVING ME UNCONSCIOUS. AN AMBULANCE RUSHED ME TO THE HOSPITAL AND I RECEIVED 10 STITCHES ABOVE MY LEFT EYE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 20 HEADING TOWARDS NORTH CAROLINA. I WAS ABOUT 5 TO 10 MILES FROM MERIDIAN, MS AND I WAS DRIVING INTO A DOWN POUR OF RAIN. TWO SEMIS PASSED ME SPLASHING WATER AND AFTER THE SECOND SEMI PASSED ALL I KNEW WAS MY VEHICLE SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AT A RAPID SPEED BOUNCING UP AND DOWN FOR ABOUT 30 TO 50 YARDS AND FINALLY SLAMMING INTO A TREE ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I MYSELF SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES ALONG WITH MY OLDEST SON. MY TWO YOUNGER SONS WERE IN THE BACKSEAT BUT I HAD A BASKET NEXT TO THE DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGERS DOOR WHICH MADE ONE OF MY SON'S SIT IN THE MIDDLE AND MY OTHER SON TO THE RIGHT OF HIM. *TT
I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2006 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER FROM A LOCAL USED CAR LOT. TWO MONTHS AFTER MY FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WENT OUT I SEARCHED TO SEE IF ANYONE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND HOW TO FIX IT I MADE MANY CALL TO GM TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART BECAUSE SO MANY WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THROUGHOUT AMERICA MY MOTHER ASK TO DRIVE MY CAR I HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM I EXPLAIN TO MY MOTHER THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR YOU CAN'T TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS IN YOUR CAR ANYWAY LONG STORY SHORT SHE RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND PULL ON THE WRONG SIDE A CAR SMASH INTO HER FROM THE BACK THIS IS WHY GM IS ASKING FOR MONEY AND NON AMERICAN CAR MAKERS IS SINGING WE NEED TO MAKE GM RECALL THESE HALF MADE CARS COULD YOU PLEASE PUT A MANDATORY RECALL ON THE 2000'S CHEVY TRAILBLAZERS THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. *TR
WE WERE INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AROUND 11:45PM A 2006 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER TRAVELING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT ON MY STREET CRASHED INTO A TREE, A PARKED CAR, AND THEN CONTINUED TO ROLL OVER ACROSS MY FRONT LAWN, LANDING SIDEWAYS AFTER FLIPPING SEVERAL TIMES. THE OCCUPANTS WERE SEVERELY INJURED. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DURING THE CRASH. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IS IN ICU NEEDING FACIAL RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY. *TR

THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE SPEED WAS NOT FAST ENOUGH TO MAKE THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT, BUT SHE REINJURED HER BACK AND EXPERIENCES NUMBNESS IN HER LEGS. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-60 MPH, THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT FLASHED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED SEAL THAT CAUSED WATER AND ORANGE SLUDGE TO BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS CLEANED AND THE FAILED SEAL WAS REPLACED. THE FRAME AROUND THE LICENSE PLATE WAS LEAKING TAR. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE TAR WAS COMING FROM THE TAILGATE. SHE APPLIED TAR REMOVER TO THE TAILGATE AND LICENSE FRAME AND NO LONGER EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
