TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IDLING TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED 12 FEET FORWARD AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE WALL IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE IT CURRENTLY REMAINS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. INVALID VIN.

MAY 16, 2014, FRIDAY NIGHT, AROUND 7:30 PM, LOST CONSCIOUSNESSES WHILE DRIVING DURING VERY HUMID QUICK WEATHER CHANGE PERIOD. IMMEDIATELY PUT ON A/C AND RECIRC ON HIGH WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE TO CLEAR WINDOWS. I THEN PICKED UP MY SON AND FRIEND, PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THEM HOME FROM PLACE AND WITHIN 500 FEET WAS INTO A TELEPHONE POLE WHEN I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS. MY SON TRIED TO SLAP ME IN THE FACE AS HE NOTICED I HAS DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT. I DID NOT REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS UNTIL POLICE/FIRE BROKE WINDOW TO EXTRACT OCCUPANTS. POLICEMAN WAS HITTING ME IN THE FACE TO WAKE ME AND FINALLY DID, ONCE I DID COM TO, I DIDN'T REALLY CARE THAT HE WAS SLAPPING ME IN THE FACE IOR THAT I WAS STILL IN THE VEHICLE. WITHIN MINUTES OF STANDING, I FELT MUCH BETTER BUT CHOSE TO TAKE AMBULANCE ON SCENE TO HOSPITAL WHERE THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG IN ER. ACCIDENT OCCURED WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN SECONDARY ROAD AT LESS THAN 30 MPH. I WENT TO MANY DOCTORS AND THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WITH EVEN MRIS, CAT SCANS, SLEEP TESTS, ETC...

I WAS BACKING OUT OF ANGLE PARKING SPACE. AS I BACKED I BUMPED CONCRETE POLE. AS I PUT CAR IN DRIVE TO GO FORWARD THE ACCELERATOR STUCK WIDE OPEN. I HAD NO CONTROL OF SPEED. I SPED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET AND CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF A PARKED PICK-UP. POLICE WERE CALLED. I WAS ONLY BRUISED AND SORE. I DID SEE A DR. AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO FOLLOW UP. MY INSURANCE CO. TOTALED THE CAR. IT WAS VERY DAMAGED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. SOMEONE COULD OF BEEN KILLED IN THIS ACCIDENT. MY DESCRIPTION DOES NOT ADEQUATELY DESCRIBE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS INCIDENT. WE WERE AT A STAND STILL IN TRAFFIC LEADING TO THE OFF RAMP, A VEHICLE CAME SPEEDING DOWN THE ON RAMP AND BY HIS OWN ADMISSION WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION. HE THEN RAMMED INTO THE BACK OF OUR VEHICLE AND HIT US SO HARD THAT IT TRIGGERED A MULTI CAR CRASH, 6 VEHICLES IN ALL. DURING REPAIRS OF THE VEHICLE WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS EXPERIENCING IDLE SURGE. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT THIS WAS NOT DUE TO THE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. WE PAID OUT OF POCKET SOME 1,700.00 AND WE CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS NOT AND WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. FORD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME ACTION TAKEN ON THEIR PART. LUCKILY, MY SON WAS NOT INJURED, BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY, HORRIFYING FOR ME TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT AND NOT SEE THE CAR SEAT WHERE IT SHOULD BE, AND I SHUDDER TO THINK OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY SON. *THE FIRE DEPT SAID MY BASE WAS PERFECTLY INSTALLED UPON INVESTIGATION AT THE ACCIDENT - I WAS DRIVING A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH LATCH SYSTEM AND SIDE AIRBAGS. SUMMARY: I WAS PUTTING GAS IN MY CAR, AS I ENTERED THE CAR AFTER FUELING, I WAS TALKING TO MY MOTHER FOR A MOMENT, AND AS I WAS ABOUT TO PLACE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER MIRROR. I GOT OUT AND RAN OVER, AND SAW FLAMES. I RIPPED THE BLACK COVER WITH THE MIRROR OFF, SAW THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. BURNING MYSELF, I PUT THE FIRE OUT IN TIME TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING OUT OF CONTROL. WITH THE FIRE SAFELY OUT, I SAW THAT IT WAS FROM THE LED COURTESY LIGHT ASSEMBLY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR. IT WAS COMPLETELY MELTED AND BURNED. I REMOVED THE PART, (AS WELL AS THE ONE FROM THE DRIVER SIDE FOR SAFE MEASURE), AND TOOK THEM TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD REPORT IT AS A FAULTY PART. THE PART IS THE WAGNER PART 71077. ACCORDING TO THE DRIVER SIDE (I COULD NOT READ THE PASSENGER SIDE TO SEE IF IT HAS THE SAME PART NUMBER, OR IF IT IS DIFFERENT FOR RIGHT AND LEFT.) THE WIRE ASSEMBLY, WAS BURNED NEAR THE BASE OF THE WIRES WHERE THEY ENTER THE ASSEMBLY. HAD I NOT BEEN THERE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE, MY CAR WOULD HAVE BURNT TO THE GROUND!!! LEFT THE MECHANIC PLACE OF BUSINESS AND WAS SITTING STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND RAMMED THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE PULLING INTO OUR GARAGE, CREEPING UP TO THE FRONT WALL OF THE GARAGE WITH FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKES, THE FREESTYLE LUNGED FORWARD 2-3 FEET. IT ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE CAR STRUCK THE FRONT WALL OF THE GARAGE, CRUSHING THE DRYWALL, BREAKING 3 STUDS, AND BREAKING THE BRICK ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAS LUNGED LIKE THIS BUT IT IS THE FIRST ACCIDENT. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WORSE AT LOW SPEEDS, WHILE HOT, AND MOVING VERY SLOWLY SUCH AS IN THE GARAGE OUT BACKING IN/OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. A/C ON MAKES IT WORSE. THE FORD CAR DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR HAS HAD THE CAR NOW FOR A WEEK, TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ASK SEVERAL OWNERS OF THE FREESTYLE ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THEY WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THE HIGH COST OF TRYING TO FIX IT. I HAVE WENT TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS WITH NO GUARANTEES. THE FORD DEALER I TOOK IT TO CHARGED ME $140.00 THEN TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING THE FORD MOTOR CO. SHOULD BE RECALLING. THANK YOU. *KB
