TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE PASSENGER SEATED IN THE REAR SEAT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDERS, BUT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK, NECK, AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY WIFE & I WERE VISITING A FRIENDS HOUSE WITH MY WIFE DRIVING. SHE PUT THE VAN INTO REVERSE TO LEAVE WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. IT SUDDENLY TOOK OFF AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED & WOULD NOT STOP EVEN WITH BOTH. FEET ON THE BRAKE. WE SHOT OUT THE DRIVEWAY AT HIGH SPEED & CONTINUED DOWN THE ROADWAY UNTIL MY WIFE LOST CONTROL & CRASHED INTO A DITCH; THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VAN WAS HITTING A LARGE ROCK. THIS OF COURSE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL. MY WIFE SUFFERED A SMALL CUT TO HER CALF; I WAS UNINJURED. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN THE ROADWAY AT THAT TIME OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS !! MY WIFE IS SO SHOOK UP BY THIS INCIDENT THAT SHE NOW REFUSES TO DRIVE HER VAN. *TR
I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN A RENTED 2007 FORD ESCAPE IN WHICH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. IT EXHAUSTED HOT GASSES NEAR MY WRISTS, SUFFICIENT TO MELT THE FLEECE I WAS WEARING AND GIVE ME SECOND DEGREE BURNS ON BOTH ARMS. EITHER THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTIONED IN DOING SO, OR THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN VENTING THE GASES NEAR THE POSITION WHERE THE DRIVER'S HANDS AND ARMS ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE.
CAR ACCELERATING WHEN AC IN ON AND AFTER AC HAS BEEN OF AFTER THAT 1 DAY USE. AC NOT WORKING PROPERTY. SENSOR ISSUES. ELECTRICAL ISSUES, EXAMPLE WINDOW NO LONGER ROLLS DOWN. TAKEN IT TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS BUT THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. KNOW IT'S TURNING OFF ALL IN A SUDDEN AND HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR BRAKES TO KICK IN. HAD THAT CHECK BUT THEY SAID EVERYTHING IS GOOD, BRAKES AND ETC.... HAVE ALREADY PUT AROUND $5,000 AND STILL NOT GETTING IT TO WORK SAFELY. ALSO STEARING WHEEL GETS STUCK AS IF YOU CAN'T TURN THE WHEELS ON THE CAR AND THEN TURNS OF AFTER SECONDS.
AFTER STARTING THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A LOUD 'HELICOPTER SOUND' UNDER THE HOOD (TO WHICH I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT WAS THE TRANSMISSION (CVT)). WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE, IT VIOLENTLY RACED FORWARD, HITTING THE BRICK WALL OF MY HOUSE. I HAVE PUSHED IT A FEW FEET BACK AND HAVE NOT RESTARTED THE CAR FOR FEAR OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN.

IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS ALERTED TO THE FAILURE AND DECLINED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AGAIN UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MY CAR IS CUTTING OFF WHEN I DRIVE IT. IT ALSO RACES WHEN I SHIFT THE GEARS. AND WHEN I TURN THE AC AND SHIFT THE GEARS THE CAR ACCELERATES. MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE MAY 2012. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A CAR DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2007 FF DEC OF 2010. THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, I NOTICED MILD ACCELERATION SOMETIMES WITHOUT APPLYING MY FOOT TO THE PEDAL. IT BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE BY MID JUNE. SO MUCH SO THAT I CONTACTED DRIVETIME WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR & THEY GAVE ME SOME TRANSMISSION SHOP TO TAKE IT TO, ONLY BE TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THAT PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION. WELL, BY 2012, THE UNINITIATED ACCELERATION HAS BECOME SO BAD THAT A FEW MONTHS AGO MY CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN & RAN SLAM INTO THE BACK OF A LADY'S CAR CAUSING MORE THAN $2000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO POLICE THAT MY CAR ACCELERATED ABRUPTLY WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING BUT SLIGHTLY LIFTING MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE (NEVER TOUCHING THE GAS). HE DIDN'T GIVE ME A TICKET BUT SAID IT WAS STILL MY FAULT. MY KIDS CALL THE CAR A TRANSFORMER BUT IT IS THE WORSE TRYING TO KEEP IT FROM PLUNGING FORWARD OR BACKWARD & HITTING SOMETHING OR SOMEONE! I HAVE TO MAKE ABSOLUTE SURE NO ONE IS AROUND WHEN I AM IN SHOPPING LOTS BECAUSE I AM AFRAID WHEN THE CAR TAKES OFF BACKWARDS FROM PARKING SPACES. I USUALLY HAVE TO SLAM ON BRAKES BUT THEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF &ON COMES THE ENGINE LIGHT. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FREESTYLE!!! *TR
WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR JUST OVER A YEAR. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, WE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SURGING/LUNGING. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, AND YOU HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO STOP IT. INITIALLY, I ONLY NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS IT HAS STARTED LUNGING BACKWARD AND FORWARD, REGARDLESS OF HOW FAST I WAS GOING (PULLING IN, BACKING UP, OR DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A STEADY SPEED.) ONCE, THE CAR LUNGED AS I WAS BACKING UP AND HIT ANOTHER CAR. MINOR DAMAGE. NOT REPORTED. IT IS STARTING TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN, AND THE CAR HAS ALSO BEGUN DYING IF IT HAPPENS WHOLE BACKING UP. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT SOLVES THAT. I'VE HAD TO START PARKING FURTHER BACK IN SPOTS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS INDIRECTLY CAUSED COSMETIC DAMAGE (COMING OUT OF A STORE TWICE I'VE NOTICED SCRAPES THAT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE BACKED INTO ME.) I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CAN BE SUCH A WIDELY REPORTED AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITHOUT A RECALL OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE ISSUE (IF YOU CALL FORD.) MY CAR HAS LUNGED FORWARD AT RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS TOWARD ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AS WELL AS DRIVEWAYS WITH CHILDREN NEARBY. IT MAY ONLY BE A FEW FEET, BUT EVEN THAT CAN BE DEADLY CONSIDERING WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS MOST. *TR
I DRIVE A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE, AND MY CAR LUNGES WHILE MY FOOT IS SLIGHTLY ON THE BRAKES. I CANNOT HAVE MY AIR-CONDITIONING ON WHILE I'M ON A STAND STILL AND MY KEY IGNITION IS LOSE AND THE CAR LIGHT COMES ON OR THE CAR WILL JUST STOP. I TOLD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ALL THEY SAY IS PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND GET IT FIXED! THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND I'M SCARED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT ON LONG ROAD TRIP WITH MY PRECIOUS CARGO. *TR
PARKED IN PARKING GARAGE. WHEN BACKING UP, CAR LURCHED AND RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS BACKING UP. I WAS IN REVERSE WHEN THE OTHER CAR BACKED UP. FOOT ON BRAKE AND CAR LURCHED INTO OTHER CAR. NO PERSONAL INJURIES THAN GOODNESS. *TR SINCE THAT TIME, IT HAS LURCHED IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT SOMEHOW MY FOOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW I WAS DOING THIS. I ALSO THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE FLOOR MAT HAD SOMEHOW BOUND THE GAS PEDAL, BUT, I CHECKED AND IT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. SENSOR REPLACED ON CAR AS MECHANIC THOUGHT THAT THIS MIGHT BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT FOR ABOUT 1,500 MILES AND PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MADE WORSE IF THE TEMPERATURE IS OVER 90 OUTSIDE OR IF THE CAR IS SITTING AND IDLING OR OPERATING AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY THAT NO OTHER PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURIES.
WE HAD NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD SURGE FROM TIME TO TIME AT LOWER SPEEDS. I FOUND SOME INFORMATION ON THE WED THAT INDICATED THAT NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING A LUNGING PROBLEM. I TOOK THAT INFORMATION TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS SURE THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES. I FOUND THAT THEY WOULD NOT, BUT THEY HAVE A TSB 11-10-21 FOR THE PROBLEM THAT APPEARS TO BE LIKE WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING. I AM A PROFESSOR IN THE AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO AND THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. YESTERDAY WHILE HOOKING UP A TRAILER, THE CAR LUNGED IN REVERSE.....MY WIFE WAS TRYING TO HOOK UP A TRAILER WITH SOMEONE BETWEEN THE CAR AND TRAILER. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
OUR CAR WAS QUITE NEW. MY DAUGHTERS AND I WERE IN THE CAR AT A STOP LIGHT. SOMEONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AT THE TIME AND THEY WERE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND ONCE SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE LUNGED BACKWARD CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WHILE PULLING IN TO PARK, WITH FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND APPLYING BRAKE TO STOP, MY VEHICLE RPMS SURGED. I HAD TO SHARPLY APPLY ADDITIONAL BRAKE, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE STRUCK A BOLLARD. TODAY'S EPISODE IS ANOTHER IN A LONG STRING OF SUDDEN RPM SURGE EVENTS DATING BACK TO WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEWLY PURCHASED. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY OUR LOCAL FORD/LINCOLN DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES, WITH NO CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN. WE HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS UNSAFE CONDITION AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE FROM FORD. *TT
SEVERAL TIMES MY VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD WHEN MOVING AT SLOW SPEEDS OR BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING FORWARD AND REVERSE. MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN THE A/C IS ON. EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE . I CAN HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING - EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE.IT ALSO LOSES POWER ON THE FREEWAY AND BECOMES VERY SLUGGISH IN ACCELERATION.THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN DRIVING 10 MPH AND UP. ALSO I HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT,THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BY ITSELF AND I HIT A WALL IN MY GARAGE. ALSO, IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD AND WHEN PUT IN REVERSE IT WOULD ACCELERATE--THIS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR. WE FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND OUR MASTER TECH GUARANTEE DID NOT COVER THE EXPENSE. ALL THEY DID WAS CLEAN THE THROTTLE UP (IS EXPECTED TO HAVE MORE PROBLEMS LATER) BECAUSE THE COST WAS OVER $700 AND WE CANNOT AFFORD IT AT THE TIME. SO, AFTER WE TOOK IT OUT OF THE SHOP THE CAR IS NOW ONLY ACCELERATING TO NO MORE THAN 4000
