MY WIFE AND I WERE HIT HEAD ON BY A DRUNK DRIVER, WE WERE BOTH RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS WHEN WE AWOKE THE AIR BAGS WERE ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY
On 8/11/22 I was involved in a behicle accident where my air bag didn't deploy. Due to this I had injuries
I was hit on the front end of the car by another car going about 30 mph. It totaled the car but the airbags did not deploy.
HELLO . MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN CAR ACCIDENT . SHE WAS IN HER 2016 JEEP PATRIOT. WHICH THE ACCIDENT WAS PRETTY BIG. WHICH CAUSED AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. AIRBAG FROM STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T DEPLOY PROPERLY AND ALSO THE AIRBAG FROM THE DASHBOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIRBAGS RELEASED A LOT OF WHITE POWDER AND SMOKE WHICH MADE HER HAVE A HARD TIME BREATHING. SHE IS IN THE HOSPITAL NOW DUE TO THE LACK OF HELP FROM THE AIRBAG AND ALSO INHALING THE SUBSTANCE FROM THE AIRBAG
BACK IN NOVEMBER OF 2018 MY JEEP WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. MY SON WAS THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME ON HIS WAY TO PICK ME UP FROM WORK IN TIVERTON RHODE ISLAND. ACCORDING TO HIM, HE RECALLS EVERYTHING FINE AND THEN A MOMENT WHEREIN EVERYTHING WENT BLANK. UPON ARRIVAL THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED, I ASKED HIM WHAT HAPPENED, HE WAS IN A STATE OF CONFUSION. AT THAT POINT THE POLICE HAD CAUGHT UP, AND BEGAN THE INVESTIGATION, AND MY SON WENT TO THE HOSPITAL BY RESCUE. FAST FORWARD: WE ARE IN QUESTION TO THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BASED ON OUR INVESTIGATION AND RECALL OF THE INCIDENT A: THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND B: THE RIGHT WHEEL AND AXLE WAS COMPLETELY DISENGAGED ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD SUSTAINED A MAJORITY OF DAMAGES ON THE LEFT/DRIVER'S SIDE! THE LEFT/DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL AND AXLE WAS STILL COMPLETELY INTACT DESPITE SUSTAINING A VAST AMOUNT OF DAMAGES. *DT*JB
WHEN INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAGS DELAYED DEPLOYMENT. THIS HAPPENED ON A DOWNTOWN STREET WITH SPEED OF 25 MPH. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION - SOMEONE FAILED TO YIELD RIGHT AWAY AND ACCIDENT COULDN'T BE AVOIDED.
ON MONDAY 07/09/2018, WHILE STOPPED ON A CITY STREET WAS REAR-ENDED BY A TRUCK WHICH DIDN'T STOP GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 -50 MPH. IT SMASHED MY CAR INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT WHICH WAS A CAR LENGTH AWAY. THE SEAT BROKE BACKWARDS, THE CENTER CONSOLE BETWEEN THE SEATS FLEW OFF, AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED, KNEES WENT FORWARD INTO THE DASH.
WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY (~10 MPH) SB I PREPARED TO MAKE A RIGHT-TURN (WB), IN THE ONLY LANE THAT TURNS RIGHT. AS I NEARED THE INTERSECTION THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, ENABLING ME AND THE (1) LANE ON MY LEFT TO GO (IT GOES SB). NO CAR WAS AHEAD OF ME (TO TURN). THE STREET I WAS TURNING ONTO HAD ONE (WB) LANE, AND TWO LANES (STOPPED), THAT GO EB. NOTE: (MAY BE RELEVANT), I FREQUENTLY DOWN-SHIFT (AUTOMATIC) TRANSMISSIONS (USING THE "PADDLES" OR "BUTTONS", WHATEVER'S ON THE SHIFT COLUMN), ON ALL AUTOMATIC TRANS. CARS I DRIVE, WHEN I SLOW DOWN. I DO THIS TO SAVE WEAR & TEAR ON MY BRAKES, WHEN APPROACHING STOP-SIGNS OR RED-LIGHTS. I DOWN SHIFT GRADUALLY, JUST LIKE ON A MANUAL TRANS. WHEN IT'S TIME TO GO, I HOLD THE PADDLE IN THE "UP-SHIFT" MODE, UNTIL I SEE "DRIVE" ON THE TRANS. INDICATOR. IN THIS ACCIDENT, AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN (THE TRANS. WAS IN A LOW GEAR), I HELD THE PADDLE IN "UP-SHIFT" MODE (NOTE: I MAY HAVE CLICKED THE PADDLE 1 GEAR UP BEFORE IT WENT TO "DRIVE", I DON'T REMEMBER), AND STARTED THE TURN, BARELY PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN I WAS APPR. HALFWAY (45 DEGREES) INTO THE TURN (POINTED SWB AT THE OPPOSITE TWO LANES), I FELT THE ENGINE "STAGGER" (LIKE IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY SHIFT A MANUAL TRANS. INTO A HIGH GEAR BUT YOU MEANT A LOW GEAR), AND IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND-THE CAR ROCKETED AHEAD (I HEARD RPMS) SLAMMING ME INTO THE WB CAR(S) SO FAST, I DIDN'T EVEN MAKE 90 DEGREES, NOR COULD I BRAKE (I TRIED). THE 1ST CAR IMPACTED WENT BACKWARD (AND TO THE RIGHT) HITTING THE CAR BEHIND, AND HIT THE CAR IN THE RIGHT LANE. NOTE: 1. JEEP WAS TOTALED. 2. THIS ACCIDENT WAS IN DRY WEATHER, MID-MORNING @ INTERSECTION I DRIVE NEARLY EVERY DAY. 3.THE AIRBAG FAILED & I WAS BRIEFLY KNOCKED-OUT W/SOME INJURIES. 4. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT, THE CONTACT REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT RAPID SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FASTER. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A MEDICAL BUILDING AND INJURED ANOTHER PERSON. THE OTHER PERSON SUSTAINED BRUISING TO THE CHEST THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED AN INJURY TO THE LEFT ARM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KLAMATH FALLS HONDA (2810 WASHBURN WAY, KLAMATH FALLS, OR 97603 (541) 205-4917), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. *JS

NOT SURE IF TAKATA INFLATORS ARE INVOLVED. ON THURSDAY 1/12/2017, I WAS STOPPED ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK WHICH DIDN'T STOP GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. IT PUSHED ME INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WHICH WAS A CAR LENGTH AWAY. THE SEAT BROKE BACKWARDS, THE HEADREST BROKE OFF COMPLETELY AND I HIT THE REAR VEIW MIRROR BREAKING IT OFF. NONE OF THE 6 AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED,
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT VEERED AND CRASHED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE INTO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, FRACTURED NOSE, AND A BUSTED LIP THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT WOULD NEED SURGERY IN THE FUTURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND DETERMINED THAT THE RATE OF DECELERATION NECESSARY TO ENGAGE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS NOT PRESENT DURING THE COLLISION. THE CAR WAS JERKING TO THE LEFT AND CAUSED ME TO HIT A SEMI TRUCK. THE PULLING WAS VERY HARD AND SUDDEN. THIS HAPPENED ON WEST GEORGIA ROAD IN SIMPSONVILLE SOUTH CAROLINA.
Sitting at a red light with foot on brake and auto “jumped” happened quickly do not know If any warning lights were on. It seams to now be not not shifting property resulting in a lag in power
I WAS DRIVING NOT FAR FROM MY HOUSE DOING BETWEEN 20 AND 25 MPH. THE ROAD IS VERY WINDY AND BEING A SECONDARY ROAD THERE ARE NO GUARD RAILS. BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD ARE HEAVILY POPULATED WITH TREES. COMING UP TO ANOTHER CURVE IN THE ROAD I APPLIED MY BRAKES THE SLOW A LITTLE MORE TO TAKE THE CURVE, AS I STARTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL I REALIZED IT WOULD NOT TURN, IT WAS LOCKED IN PLACE.NOW I'M APPLYING MY BRAKES HARDER, FIGHTING TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND STOP, ALL TO NO AVAIL. I HIT A TREE BEFORE I COULD STEER MY JEEP. MY "PURCHASED NEW" 2016, IN VERY GOOD CONDITION IS NOW TOTALED, WINDOWS BLOWOUT, AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND THANK GOD I WALKED AWAY WITH THE HELP OF EMS, FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE. I AM A SINGLE WORKING MOTHER, WHO COULD HAVE LOST HER LIFE. I KNOW THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER BUT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINS ABOUT OTHER JEEPS, (MY YEAR AND OTHER YEARS) WITH THE STEERING LOCKING UP OR FREEZING. AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING THE POLICE REPORT WAS NOT READY. I WILL OBTAIN THAT REPORT. I ALSO THINK I SHOULD REQUEST THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAVE THE JEEP CHECKED OUT TO SEE IF THEY CAN TELL WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. MY MALFUNCTIONING JEEP PATRIOT EXPERIENCED SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHICH RESULTED IN A TOTALED CAR, 2 DAMAGED BUILDINGS, AND A FCA LETTER STONEWALLING AND WASHING THEIR HANDS OF. THIS ACCIDENT CAME WITHIN A WHISKER OF TAKING OUR LIVES. ACCIDENT HAPPENED AS I DESCENDED OUR DRIVEWAY TO OUR HOUSE. DEEP SKID TIRE MARKS IN GRAVEL THEY CHOSE TO IGNORE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH AN UNKNOWN VEHICLE VEERED IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND CUT HER OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS UNCONTROLLABLY, SWERVED ACROSS THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO THE HILLSIDE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN BAG DEPLOYED BUT THE PASSENGERS SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY COMPLETELY. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,300. *DT*JB
PURCHASED VEHICLE LESS THAN 6 MONTHES AGO AND COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER THAT IT SOUNDED AND FELT LIKE WHEELS WERE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. 8 DAYS LATER I TOOK IT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE SHOP REFUSED. HE EXPLAINED THAT WHEN THEY LIFTED THE JEEP AND INSPECTED TIRES THE WIRE TREADS WERE EXPOSED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRE, AT ANY MOMENT THE VEHICLE COULD POSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHANGED TIRE BUT DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES CONTINUALLY MADE A SCREECHING SOUND , FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD OFTEN VEER LEFT WHEN TURNED RIGHT AND THE JEEP KEPT MAKING RUBBING AND POPPING SOUNDS LAST WEEK WHILE TRAVELLING LESS THAN 20 MILES AN HOUR THE CAR MADE A POPPING SOUND , I LOST CONTROL OF STEERING WHEEL AND IT WAS VEERING TO RIGHT , RUNNING UP ON THE CURB AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN MOTION . . WHEN THE JEEP FINALLY STOPPED I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL NOR PUSH IT OUT OF THE STREET. IT HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY. MECHANIC INSPECTED AND ADVISED OF NUMEROUS ISSUES: AXLE BENT, CONTROL ARM , DRIVE SHAFT, SUSPENSION TO MENTION A FEW. THE JEEP HAD 107000 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURED AND IS UNDER WARRANTY. MECHANIC IS REQUESTING WARRANTY APPROVAL TO FIX THE FAILED COMPONENTS AND DAMAGES INCURRED FROM THE FAILURE
2016 PATRIOT WITH,54,000 MILES. NO MAJOR ISSUES PRIOR. 2 WEEKS AGO HOWEVER, I WAS LEFT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI AND SIDE SWIPING A CONSTRUCTION SIGN TO AVOID BEING HIT. WHEN ACCELERATING THE ETC SYMBOL (LIGHTENING BOLT) WILL DISPLAY, TRACTION CONTROL ICON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL DISPLAY. THE JEEP COMPLETELY STOPS ACCELERATING (HIGHWAY SPEED TO 0 MPH WITHIN SECONDS=DEADLY), IT WILL SHAKE BEFORE JUST DYING. IF I'M LUCKY I'LL MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER (IF IT HAPPENS TO HAVE ONE). THROUGH GOOGLE RESEARCH, I CAME ACROSS A WAY TO DO A "RESET" (TURN CAR OFF, INSERT KEY AND TURN "ON", PRESS GAS PEDAL SLOWLY, RELEASE SLOWLY, TURN CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE). DOING THIS TYPICALLY CLEARS THE ICONS AND I'M ABLE TO TRAVEL AGAIN. THIS INTERMITTENTLY HAPPENS, SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'RE POTENTIALLY ABOUT TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT FROM STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY. WHEN DRIVING ON CITY/TOWN ROADS, IT HAS NOT COMPLETED STOPPED AS STATED ABOVE, BUT WILL "JUMP" WHEN SWITCHING GEARS, THEN THROW THE ETC SYMBOL. IF I LET OFF THE GAS, THE ICON GOES AWAY AND CAR RUNS NORMAL. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC 1 DAY AGO AND WAS TOLD TO GET A NEW BATTERY. THE BATTERY WAS CHANGED 1 DAY AGO AND THE ISSUE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES TODAY. THROUGH ONLINE SEARCHES IT APPEARS THIS IS A TERRIBLY COMMON ISSUE THAT JEEP HAS YET TO ADDRESS! SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP LOSING THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO WAY OF KNOWING THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN OR ANY PREVENTATIVE MEASURES THAT A TYPICAL PERSON WOULD KNOW TO TAKE TO AVOID THIS DEADLY MALFUNCTION. AS EASY AS IT IS TO JUST TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC, THAT IS NOT FINANCIALLY POSSIBLE FOR EVERYONE AND IN THIS SITUATION NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY JEEP AS IT IS RECURRING ISSUE AND IS DEADLY. NOTHING AS A VEHICLE OWNER WOULD AVOID THIS FROM OCCURRING.
