ON AUGUST 13, 2011 WHILE TRAVELING ON I-75 SOUTH OF ATLANTA A VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD & ATTEMPTED TO RETURN AND OVER CORRECTED, HE STRUCK OUR SEQUOIA WITH SUCH FORCE IN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR THAT THE REAR OF THE OUR SEQUOIA IMMEDIATELY TURNED SIDEWAYS AND WE BEGIN TO FLIP. AFTER FLIPPING WE LANDED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SLID APPROX 1/4 OF A MILE BEFORE COMING TO RESTING PLACE IN THE MEDIAN ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE. MY WIFE &13 YEAR OLD SON WERE SEVERELY INJURED, MYSELF AND MY OTHER 2 SONS SUSTAINED INJURIES BUT NONE WERE LIFE THREATENING. NEITHER MY WIFE'S NOR MY SONS SEAT BELT LOCKED AND ONCE THE WINDOWS BLEW OUT MY SON WAS DRAGGED DOWN THE INTERSTATE CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES TO HIS HEAD, BACK, ARM AND LEG. MY WIFE SUSTAINED WORSE INJURIES, HER ARM 6 INCHES & 6 INCHES BELOW HER ELBOW WAS CUT OFF. NONE OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND NEITHER SEATBELT "FIRED" PROPERLY ALLOWING MY WIFE AND SON TO SUSTAIN LIFE ALTERING INJURIES. NO ONE DOUBTS THAT IF THE SAFETY FEATURES WE PAID ADDITIONAL $ FOR HAD FUNCTIONED PROPERLY, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER. SOON AFTER THE ACCIDENT I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO HAVE THE INCIDENT INVESTIGATED. AN "INDEPENDENT" INVESTIGATOR READ THE VEHICLE EDR (BLACKBOX) SOON THEREAFTER I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT TOYOTA HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY. WHEN I CALLED AND SPOKE TO THE TOYOTA REP THAT SIGNED THE LETTER, HE WAS IMMEDIATELY ON THE DEFENSIVE. HE YELLED AND TRIED USING INTIMIDATION TECHNIQUES TO GET ME TO "GO AWAY". MY WIFE IS NOW PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND UNABLE TO WORK AS AN RN. I HAVE OWNED 7 TOYOTA VEHICLES & PAID EXTRA FOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS, WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN DECEIVED BY TOYOTA SELLING US ON SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER TOYOTA. I TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO TELL OTHER PERSPECTIVE CAR PURCHASERS MY STORY & THE FAILURE OF TOYOTA TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR LOYAL OWNERS. BUYER BEWARE. *TR

LUCKILY THERE WERE SHRUBS AND BUSHES TO HELP THE CAR GO INTO A SLOW AS WE SLID ACROSS THE WALL. I DONT KNOW WHY THE GAS PEDAL DECIDE TO GET STUCK AND ACCELERATE US INTO THE WALL BUT IM HEARING FROM OTHER SEQUOIA OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR PEDALS AND THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR

A HYUNDAI TUCSON RAN A RED LIGHT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (APPROX 50 MPH) HITTING US HARD ENOUGH TO FLIP US 360 DEGREES CAUSING US TO ROLL OVER ANOTHER HYUNDAI TUCSON AND LAND ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. WE WERE HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEREBY THE DOOR JAM BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK DOORS TOOK MOST OF THE HIT. DUE TO THE WAY WE ROLLED AND BOUNCED OFF THE HOOD OF THE STATIONARY CAR, I, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TOOK MOST OF THE HIT. MY HEAD HIT THE WINDOW AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BACK AND RIGHT ARM WERE BRUISED. MY HUSBAND, WHO WAS DRIVING, INJURED HIS SHOULDER. I THINK IF WE WERE IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE WE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR FAR MORE SEVERELY INJURED. OUR SEATBELTS HELD US IN PLACE, BUT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER CURTAIN AND SIDE AIRBAGS (THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR) DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH I THINK IN A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT AND ROLL OVER, THEY SHOULD HAVE. WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT HAND LANE. TRIED TO MERGE INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND NOTICED A CAR IN MY BLIND SPOT SO I WENT BACK INTO THE LEFT LANE. HOWEVER, MY VSC/ABS LIGHTS WENT ON, THE CAR BEEPED, MADE A HEAVY GRINDING NOISE, AND THEN, WITH MUCH FORCE, VEERED HARD TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TO STEER IT BACK TO THE LEFT HAND LANE, THE OTHER DRIVERS SAW ME WRESTLING WITH MY STEERING WHEEL AND THE CAR STARTED TO FISHTAIL SO FORTUNATELY THEY STAYED WELL BEHIND ME. THE CAR BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL AND STEER AND BRAKING DID NOT HELP. DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS TO CONTROL THE CAR, APPLY THE BRAKES, STEER OUT OF THE SKIDDING AND FISHTAILING, MY CAR THEN WENT OVER INTO THE RIGHT LANE, OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AND THEN THE WHEEL SUNK INTO THE GRASS NEXT TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. MY SON AND I WERE AIRLIFTED TO THE TRAUMA UNIT. I SUFFERED 2 BROKEN VERTEBRAE IN THE C AREA OF MY NECK AND A COMPRESSED DISC IN THE T REGION OF MY SPINE, CONCUSSION, CUTS, BRUISES, GLASS EMBEDDED NEAR MY EYE, AS WELL AS A SPLENIC ANEURYSM. MY SON HAD A CONCUSSION, WOUND ON THE HEAD THAT REQUIRED STITCHES, CUTS, BRUISES AND A SPRAINED ANKLE. MY SON AND I WERE BOTH UNCONSCIOUS AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE.MY TWO DAUGHTERS HAD MINOR CUTS, SPRAINS, AND BRUISES. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE COME OUT OF THIS ALIVE AND NOT TO HAVE HIT ANYONE ELSE. I AM STILL IN A NECK BRACE AND UNDERGOING MEDICAL TREATMENT. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE COULD HAVE ALL BEEN KILLED. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND THERE WAS NO BLACK BOX IN THIS MODEL. I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR FROM TOYOTA AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY YET IF THE VEHICLE IS TOTAL LOSS OR IF CAN BE REPAIRED BECAUSE AS CONSEQUENCE OF TREAD SEPARATION THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE WALL AND IS BADLY DAMAGE. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE INJURED, BUT NOT TOO BAD BUT. IN ADDITION THE AIR BAGS DID NOT COME OUT AFTER THE IMPACT. STEERING LOSS AND SEPARATION OF THE BALL JOINTS FROM SOCKET CAUSING A CRASH. AT THE TIME THE TWO FAILURES OCCURRED, IT CAUSED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL & TIRE TO BUCKLE UNDER VEHICLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID BETWEEN 250 FEET TO 300 FEET BEFORE STOPPING. THIS INCIDENT PROVED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY UNCONTROLLABLE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF MANUFACTURED PARTS ON THIS VEHICLE. NOTICE OF SUCH "RECALL FROM TOYOTA" COULD OF PREVENTED THIS INCIDENT IF A NOTICE WAS RECEIVED. FURTHER, I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE OF ANY KIND WITH RESPECT TO THE RECALL ON THE LOWER BALL JOINTS AND STEERING LOSS. IT WASN'T DISCOVERED UNTIL VEHICLE HAD BEEN TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS INSPECTED BY THE MECHANIC. THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT (APPROX. 4-6 MONTHS AGO) IN WHICH WAS STILL NOT BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *JB

MECHANIC IS AWARE OF 2003 AND NEWER RECALL FOR THE SAME REASON, TRIED RECALIBRATING YAW SENSOR SUCCESSFULLY. 3 DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN MECHANICS SAYS THE SENSOR MAY BE PERIODICALLY MALFUNCTIONING, OVER CORRECTING FOR A NONEXISTENT PROBLEM. PROBLEM BEGAN IN 2009 WHEN THE VSC LOCKED UP ON MY HUSBAND WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. THIS INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO YOU AND A COMPLAINT FILED. WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF ESCONDIDO, WE WERE TOLD IT CHECKED OUT FINE. THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON AN OFF..TAKEN IN AGAIN, THEY PULLED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND FOUND IT REGISTERED THE CAR HAD A TOTAL ROLLOVER..SO NOT THE CASE! TOYOTA HAD NO ANSWER, SAYING MAYBE COMPUTER MALFUNCTION..THEY DID NOTHING! OVER THE YEAR THE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND OFF RANDOMLY, WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IT "CHECKS OUT FINE". ON 12/22/2010 I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND NOTICED A FEELING OF TOTAL TIGHTNESS OVER THE VEHICLE. THE VSC LIGHT WAS ON. WHEN PUT IN DRIVE (I HAD BEEN IN REVERSE) THE CAR WAS FINE AND THE FEELING GONE..LIGHT AS WELL. ONE HOUR LATER, I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT IN HEAVY HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. AS THE LINE BEGAN TO SLOWLY MOVER FORWARD, I LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE GAS..IMMEDIATELY THE CAR WAS OVERCOME WITH THE TIGHT FEELING AND LIGHTS CAME ON AND A DEEP GRINDING NOISE STARTED. I HAVE OWNED A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SINCE 2006. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN OCCURRING IN THE WINTER OF 2007 WITH THE VSC, VSC TRAC, AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ALL COMING ON. THIS KEPT CONTINUING ANYTIME I WAS DRIVING IN WET SNOWY CONDITIONS. I BEGAN TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM ON LINE AND IT SEEMS THERE ARE MANY CASES OF THIS ON 2001-2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY COMPUTER CODES RELATING TO THIS ISSUE. AT THE END OF LAST WINTER THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BECOME WORSE. EVEN IN DRY CONDITIONS ON DRY PAVEMENT THE VSC COMPUTER BEGINS TO TAKE OVER ACCELERATION AND VERY OFTEN! AND SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS COME ON AND SOMETIMES NOT. AGAIN I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THERE TO BE A TOYOTA RECALL ON 2003 SEQUOIAS ONLY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTING MY SEQUOIA! I CALLED TOYOTA, THEY GAVE ME A CASE # AND TOLD ME TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER. I TOOK IT BACK TO A TOYOTA DEALER AND AGAIN THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE LIGHTS TURNING ON OR FIND ANY COMPUTER CODES CONCERNING THE PROBLEM. THAT WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS AGO AND STILL THE PROBLEM PERSISTS LEADING UP TO YESTERDAYS ACCIDENT. I DROVE UP TO THE MOUNTAINS TO GO SNOWBOARDING. WHEN WE LEFT THE RESORT IT WAS SNOWING VERY HEAVY. I NOTICED THE ABS, VSC, AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS COME ON AGAIN, AS I WAS EXPECTING THEM TO. WE DROVE ABOUT 7 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THEN I WAS MOVING IN TO THE LEFT TURNING LANE OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT. OUR SPEED WAS ONLY 15-20 MPH, AND WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND WE BEGAN SLIDING. I LET OFF THE BRAKES AND TRIED THEM AGAIN TO NO AVAIL. I LET OFF THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO MISS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BY GOING TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THEM OVER A SMALL MEDIAN AS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING TOWARDS US IN THE INTERSECTION. BUT MY REAR TIRE BOUNCED ME OFF THE MEDIAN AND INTO THE VEHICLE.THE DAMAGE WAS MINOR AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. I BELIEVE THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE ABS AND VSC SYSTEM WAS WORKING PROPERLY. I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE 01 AND 02 SEQUOIAS. *TR

TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL 05V225000 CONCERNING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH 04/2004 WHILE TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY REPAIRED AFTER THE CRASH, AND SHE FELT THAT THIS PLAYED A PART IN THE SECOND CRASH ,WHERE THE VSTEERING DID NOT RESPOND. DURING EACH OF THE CRASHES, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 - 45 MPH ,AND THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 56,000. *AK
