MY TRUCK WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AT APPROX 55 MPH TRUCK HIT CENTER MEDIAN WALL HEAD ON, DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. PASSENGER SIDE DID DEPLOY. PASSENGER SIDE WAS PART OF RECALL THAT WAS INSPECTED AND CORRECTED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXTREME FORCE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER CRASHING INTO THE GARAGE DOOR AND HITTING A WALL. THERE WAS FRONT END DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR NECK INJURIES. THE CONTACT CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 60,000. UPDATED 7/20/10 *CN UPDATED 07/23/10*JB
WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AND THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY; WE TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WHICH SEEMED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEN ABOUT 9 MO TO A YEAR LATER THE LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AGAIN AND THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE, TOYOTA STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUID AND THE MASTER CYLINDER AT OUR COST BECAUSE WE HAD TAKEN IT ELSEWHERE AND THEY FELT THAT IT HAD CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID, WHICH OUR MECHANIC STATED IN WRITING WAS NOT. ALTHOUGH WE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE TOYOTA FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY; WE GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THROUGH OUR OWN MECHANIC AND THEN SHORTLY LATER THE BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN A CRASH ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE SEQ WOULD BE REPAIRED VIA INS THERE WAS A CODE THAT SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT SHOWED THAT BRAKES INDEED DID FAIL; HOWEVER WHEN TAKING IT TO TOYOTA THE SAME CODE DID NOT SHOW UP. THE VEHICLE DID WELL, HOWEVER WE LIVE BY A DIRT ROAD AND WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD OR GOING AROUND A CORNER QUICKLY THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS GO ON AND NOW THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WON'T GO WHEN THE TRAC SYSTEM IS ON AND YOU SLOW DOWN OR START UP AGAIN--AT PRESENT THE SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF; IT HAS REALLY NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. *NM
EERILY SIMILAR TO ODI CASE ID NUMBER 10101730 OUR 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 4WD WITH THE FACTORY GY OPTION FOR DR/PASS CURTAIN & SIDE AIRBAGS WAS INVOLVED IN A BROADSIDE COLLISION IN THE DRIVERS FRONT SIDE DOOR CAUSING THE SEQUOIA TO ROLL-OVER TWICE AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED. THE SEQUOIA WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH HAVING JUST EXITED AN ACTIVE SCHOOL ZONE AND WAS HIT PERPENDICULARLY BY A PASSENGER CAR AT UNKNOWN HIGH SPEED FROM A DISREGARDED STOP-SIGNED CROSS STREET. THE SEQUOIA WAS TRIPPED BY A CLOSE BY CURB, BEING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, AND ROLLED TWICE BEFORE BEING STOPPED BY IMPACTING A NEARBY RESIDENTIAL PRIVACY FENCE ON THE CORNER. DESPITE THE FORWARD IMPACT INTO THE PRIVACY FENCE, THE SIDE IMPACT OF THE OTHER VEHICLE INTO THE DOOR, AND THE SUBSEQUENT 2 ROLLS OVER, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED; NEITHER DRIVER OR PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS NOR NEITHER THE DRIVERS SIDE NOR PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS. FORTUNATELY THE DRIVER AND THE TWO SMALL CHILDREN BUCKLED IN THE BACK WERE NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO THE STURDINESS OF THE SEQUOIA ITSELF. BACK AND NECK SORENESS, A COUPLE STITCHES IN MY HAND AND MULTIPLE OTHER MINOR GLASS CUTS FOR ME AND MULTIPLE MINOR GLASS CUTS AND A SPRAINED WRIST IN MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. MY 7 YEAR OLD SON WAS VIRTUALLY UNSCATHED. TOYOTA DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND SUFFICIENT TIME HAS NOT PASSED TO GAUGE THEIR RESPONSE. TOYOTA ITSELF HAS NO FACILITY ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR REPORTING SUCH INCIDENTS. *NM
PUT MY SEQUOIA IN PARK AND SHUT OFF .I GOT OUT TO GO INTO GAS STATION, AS I SHUT THE DOOR TO THE VEHICLE, THE CAR JERKED AND BEGAN MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND PROCEEDED TO GO IN REVERSE BACK. I WENT TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE I HAD GOTTEN IT INTO THE PARK POSITION AND IT WAS. I COULDN'T STOP IT AND BY THAT TIME IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME TO GET AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. IT ENDED UP PINNING MY LEGS BETWEEN A CONCRETE BARRIER THAT PROTECTS THE GAS PUMPS AND THE DOOR OF MY VEHICLE. EVENTUALLY, IT FOLDED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR BACKWARDS MAKING IT PARALLEL TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND RELEASED ME TO FALL TO THE GROUND. IT THEN CONTINUED IN REVERSE UNTIL IT FINALLY HIT A PARKED CAR AND STOPPED. ALL OF THE WITNESSES, INCLUDING THE ACTUAL POLICE OFFICER NOTED IN THEIR STATEMENTS THAT THEY FOUND THE CAR IN PARK. AT THIS POINT, TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND A NEUTRAL PARTY WHO QUICKLY CHECKED THE SEQUOIA SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STAYING IN PARK SO THERE WOULD PROBABLY BE NOTHING FURTHER DONE. *AK

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOP. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE REAR AXLE DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE REAR AXLE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN SNOWY WEATHER AT 28 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, SKIDDED TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED INTO A FIELD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE BODY WAS REPAIRED. THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN ADDRESSED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 139,000.
WE OWN A TOYATA SEQUOIA LTD 2003 MODEL YEAR. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER REGARDING BRAKING ISSUE. IF WE EVER USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, FOR SOME REASON THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WILL START TO LOCK UP, THAT WOULD SHAKE THE SUV AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER. THE DEALER NEVER DETERMINED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS EVEN THOUGH WE ENDED UP PAYING FOR REPAIRS THAT NEVER MADE A DIFFERENCE. EVENTUALLY WE STOPPED USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON OUR VEHICLE, THAT ALSO STOPPED THE RIGHT SIDE WHEELS FROM LOCKING UP. DURING THIS PERIOD THE CAR PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY ALSO CRASHED INTO OUR GARAGE AND BROKE THE GARAGE DOORS. WITH EMERGENCY BRAKES ON AND IN PARK, MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WE THERE WAS A LOUD BANG, THE SUV HAD CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE; EVEN THOUGH THE SUV WAS IN PARK POSITION GEAR AND WITH EMERGENCY BRAKES ON. *TR

I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE ABS AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND IT TO BE A HABITUAL PROBLEM. ON THE MORNING OF MAY 24 I HAD A COLLISION WITH A DEER. ALL FOUR BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I WENT INTO A SKID AND HIT THE DEER. THE THINGS THAT I HAVE READ IS ITS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BUT IT IS NOT. TOYOTA HAS AN ISSUE HERE THAT PUTS ITS OWNERS IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IF THERE WERE HABITUAL SEAT BELT ISSUES OR AIRBAG ISSUES THIS WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I THOUGH I HAD WORKING ABS BRAKES AND DUE TO SOME KIND OF DESIGN FAILURE I DID NOT. *TR
DURING A 40 MPH FRONT PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT, THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
ON APRIL 14, 2004 CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. UPON TAPPING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITH GREAT FORCE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL, AND HIT A SCHOOL. *AK
A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA 2WD/LIMITED WAS PLACED IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING ON A DOWN SLOPE DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVER EXITED THE VEHICLE, OPENED UP THE BACK TO GET SOMETHING TO DELIVER. THE PERSON BEGAN WALKING UP THE SIDEWALK TO THE FRONT DOOR WHEN AN EYE WITNESS NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS IN FOWARD MOTION AND YELLED A WARNING. THE VEHICLE STRUCK A CLOSED GARAGE DOOR AND KNOCKED IT OUT OF PLACE AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER RAN TO THE CAR AND THE GEAR LEVER WAS IN PARK. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP.*JB
ON 12/21/2020, AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS, I PUT MY VEHICLE INSIDE MY LOCKED GARAGE AT 10:30 A.M. AND ALL WAS FINE. AT AROUND 9:00 P.M. THAT SAME NIGHT, I OPENED MY GARAGE TO FIND IT FULL OF SMOKE. AFTER INSPECTING EVERYTHING, I SAW NOTHING WAS STILL ON FIRE AND WAITED UNTIL THE MORNING TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. I FIRST TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD BATTERY POWER BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I THEN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND BACKED THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE FRONT OF THE GARAGE TO OPEN THE HOOD. I SAW THE ENGINE HAD BURNED UP FROM SOMEWHERE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT HAD PUT ITSELF OUT. THE FIRE CRACKED THE EXTERIOR HOOD, BURNED HOSES, ELECTRICAL AND OTHER AREAS OF THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. BLACK SOOT HAD ALSO DROPPED ON THE FLOOR OF THE GARAGE UNDERNEATH WHERE THE FIRE WAS. THE WOOD BEAMS INSIDE MY GARAGED WERE ALSO SCORCHED BLACK FROM THE INTENSE HEAT FROM THE FIRE/SMOKE BUT LUCKILY HAD NOT CAUGHT FIRE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID I SHOULD HAVE MY CAR INSURANCE TAKE OVER. MERCURY HAS NOT DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE BUT I AM PUSHING FOR THE EXACT CAUSE SINCE IF IT'S RELATED TO A RECALL ISSUE, THEN TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. MY VEHICLE HAS 37,200 MILES LESS THAN THE AVERAGE AND I HAVE A SPREADSHEET OF ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, SMOG CHECKS AND RECALLS COMPLETED. THERE WAS NO REASON THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED INSIDE MY GARAGE. LUCKILY, I WASN'T DRIVING, WASN'T HURT, AND NO OTHER PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM.
ON GOING PROBLEMS WITH VSC. 2003 (41,000 MILES) TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES NOW FOR THE VSC ACTIVATING AND BRAKES ENGAGING WHILE TURNING A CORNER IN NORMAL, DRY CONDITIONS. FROM 3 MPH TO MORE THAN 15+ MPH THE VSC ENGAGES AND BRAKES ARE APPLIED. VERY DANGEROUS! DEALERSHIP HAS FIXED PROBLEM EACH OF THE 3 TIMES. CAR WARRANTY IS NOW OVER AND PROBLEM PERSISTS. DEALERSHIP SAYS FOR $1500. THEY WILL REPLACE THE VSC COMPUTER...UTTER NON-SENSE!!! VERY UPSET THAT TOYOTA CONTINUES TO HIDE FROM THIS PROBLEM. WHILE RESEARCHING ON LINE I HAVE EASILY FOUND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR CASES AND COMPLAINTS.....PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!!!! *TR
THE VSC & TRAC LIGHTS ARE ON CONSTANTLY ON MY 2003 SEQUOIA. MY WIFE SEEMS TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR WHEN THE BRAKES LOCK UP AT ABOUT 2-3 MPH, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I AM CONCERNED FOR HER AND MY CHILDREN (3) IN THE CAR SHOULD THE ACCIDENT OCCUR DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. CONSUMER NOTICED A ROTTEN EGG SMELL COMING THROUGH AIR CONDITIONER (A/C) VENTS, MAKING CONSUMER AND PASSENGERS SICK. THE VEHICLE WAS TESTED FOR HIGH CARBON MONOXIDE EXHAUST. *AK THE CONSUMER, HUSBAND, ANY OR ALL PASSENGER INCLUDING THE INFANT CHILD WOULD FEEL DIZZY, LIGHT HEADED, AND NAUSEAS. THE CONSUMERS INFANT CHILD WOULD SLEEP HARD AND WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND DIAGNOSED WITH "CO EXPOSURE." NO ONE WOULD FEEL THESE SYMPTOMS ANY LONGER WHEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *SCC
