TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS LIQUID ON BOTH FRONT FLOORBOARDS OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO THE LANE AND CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR NECK INQUIRIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED, BUT WAS TAKEN TO A COLLISION CENTER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR BODY DAMAGES. IN ADDITION, WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MOVE FORWARD, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WITH THE BRAKES RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 02/12/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT LAST LONG. THE ADJUSTER SPECULATED THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS WHEN LIGHT CHANGED AND I PROCEEDED FORWARD APROX. 2-3FT WHEN CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP JERKING TO THE LEFT. IMMEADIATELY PLACED CAR IN PARK AND LOOKED OUT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TO SEE FRONT LEFT WHEEL ANGLED BACK APROX 35 DEGREES AND JAMED INTO FENDER WELL. CALLED TOW COMPANY AND POLICE ARRIVED TO DIRECT AND DIVERT TRAFFIC, NO POLICE REPORT MADE BY POLICE BECAUSE NO INJURIES OR OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. TOW TRUCK DRIVER & POLICE BOTH STATED I WAS FORTUNATE, BECAUSE HAD I BEEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPEND IT COULD BEEN VERY SERIOUS AND/OR FATAL TO NOT ONLY ME BUT OTHERS AS WELL. CAR TOWED TO NEAREST REPAIR SHOP WERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY HAD ACTUALLY RUSTED/ROTTED THROUGH ON LEFT FRONT END OF VEHICLE AND BROKE WITH EVERYTHING ATTACHED TO IT (STEERING LINKAGE, LEFT AXLE, TIE ROD, ETC.) COMING LOOSE. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THERE HAND BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN 23-012-14 ISSUED FOR FRONT AND REAR CROSSMEMBER CORROSION AND LOOKING AT OTHER FORUMS (IE MYJEEPCOMPASS.COM) AND SAFECAR.GOV AS WELL. CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE GIVEN CASE #34535927.HAD TO PAY TO HAVE CAR TOWED AGAIN, THIS TIME TO A JEEP DEALER TO INSPECT AND CONFIRM SUBFRAME FAILED. WHEN I ASKED WHY THERE WASN'T A RECALL INSTEAD OF JUST A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT NOBODY SEES EXCEPT THE DEALER I COULD NOT GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER. JEEP DID AGREE TO COVER CROSSMEMBER REPLACEMENT AFTER CONFIRMED, BUT NOT TO PAY FOR THE PARTS THAT WERE DAMAGED FROM THE FAILURE OF THE CROSSMEMBER WHICH CAME TO $844.81 I HAD TO PAY. I THINK THAT WOULD BE A SMALL PRICE FOR THEM TO PAY IN LIGHT OF WHAT THE COST COULD AND WOULD HAVE BEEN TO THEM FOR SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR FATALITY RELATED TO THEIR KNOWN DEFECT. NOW I GET STUCK PAYING FOR THEIR DEFECT.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND THE LEFT FRONT CROSS MEMBER THAT HAD RUSTED AND WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED FAILED AND FELL ON TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE.LUCKILY SHE WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH AND WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE TO SAFE STOP. IF SHE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED IT COULD HAVE KILLED HER AS WELL AS OTHERS.I HAD JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON NOVEMBER 2016 FROM A AUTO SALES COMPANY. AFTER THE FAIL I LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A EXTENDED (10) WARRANTY (IE X58) THAT WARNED OF THIS PROBLEM AND A FIX PROVIDED BY COMPANY. I WAS NEVER TOLD THIS INFORMATION WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND SHOULD HAS BEEN REPAIR BEFORE BEING SOLD TO ANYONE OR AT LEAST INSPECTED. I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER REP THAT THE VEHICLE IS STILL REGISTERED IN CANADA AND THEY HAD NO IDEA THIS CAR WAS IN UNITED STATES SO THE INFORMATION NEVER FOLLOWED THE CAR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE CAR MAKE WAS IN SEPT OF 2006 EVEN THOUGH IT IS A 2007 ON TITLE AND THE WARRANTY GOES BY MAKE DAY SO MY CAR IS 6 MONTHS OUT OF A WARRANTY THAT I DID NOT KNOW EXISTED BECAUSE THE CAR IS STILL REGISTERED IN CANADA. THE INFORMATION THAT THIS VEHICLE FRONT OR REAR SUSPENSION COULD FAIL SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE UTTER MOST CONCERN FOR SAFE BY THE CHRYSLER COMPANY OF CANADA AND NOT A I HOPE YOU GOT OUR LETTER THAT YOUR CAR MY KILL YOU OR YOU FAMILY AT ANYTIME FROM RUST FAILURE IN AROUND 10 YEARS OR SO AND WE KNOW IT !!! AS OF TODAY CHRYSLER HAS NOT MADE A DECISION ON WEATHER OR NOT THEY INTEND TO FIX THIS VEHICLE BUT THE FACT REMAIN THERE ARE MORE 2007 JEEP COMPASS OUT THERE THAT NEED TO BE WARNED THAT THE CANADA VERSION OF THIS VEHICLE COULD FAIL ANYTIME I`M SURE I`M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO PURCHASED A COMPASS FROM CANADA PLANT THAT IS NOW IN THE USA THAT HAS NOT BEEN TOLD OF THIS PROBLEM. I OWN A 2007 JEEP COMPASS THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JUNE OF 2006. BEGINNING IN MAY OF THIS YEAR THE CAR BEGAN SUFFERING BOTH LOW AND HIGH SPEED ENGINE STALLS, WHERE THE WARNING 'BELL' SOUNDS, ALL OF THE DASH WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN BY MY COLLEGE AGE DAUGHTER AND REPRESENTS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD TO BOTH HER AND THOSE AROUND HER. MOST RECENTLY THIS CONDITION OCCURRED ON I-85 SOUTH OF ATLANTA IN A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHILE SHE WAS GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR. TWO WEEKS AGO THE OPELIKA JEEP DEALERSHIP DID THE 'SOFTWARE UPGRADE' RECOMMENDED BY A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME THE DEALER COULD NOT 'RECREATE' THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A DEALERSHIP IN UNION CITY, GA WHERE IT WAS TOWED. IN PAST FAILURES THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER REMAINING TURNED OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WITH THE LATEST OCCURRENCE THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. IN FACT IT ACTED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK WAS ENGAGED BECAUSE TURNING THE KEY PRODUCED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. WHEN WE STOPPED AND WENT TO GET HIM OUT, HE WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT AS THE SEAT BELT WAS RETRACTING AND GETTING SO TIGHT AROUND HIM HE WAS GETTING SQUEEZED IN HALF. dashboard had check engine light on. transaxle indicator light turned on when i was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and slowed down and wouldn’t accelerate. The large commercial truck behind me was unable to stop on time that it almost hit us behind. There was a construction on my right lane and cars on my left lane. it took me some seconds to reach the end of construction site in my right lane. A second or two more not changing lane to my right side would have hit me and my children. All the truck driver was able to do was pressed on the horn to make me aware that he is too close behind me. Changed of speed in a freeway that fast could have killed me and my kids. i have not been able to drive in the Freeway with this car and even if i get it fixed, I still won’t feel safe to drive it. The car runs fine when the transaxle light doesn’t come on. certain movement, light turns on and off.

The vehicle has a problem that it will stall out after filling up with gas. The timing of the stall out is such that within a minute or two of leaving the gas station and pulling into traffic, the vehicle will buck and the motor will shut off. when this happens, the vehicle also loses power steering and brakes. This creates an INCREDIBLY dangerous situation as the driver essentially has no control any longer. It is a consistent, repeatable problem that occurs every time the vehicle is filled with gas.
