2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD IN AN ACCIDENT. CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN THE CAR FIRST CAUGHT FIRE THE VEHICLE STAYED IN DRIVE AND WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK AND IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FEED FUEL TO THE FIRE. *KB THE DRIVER OF THE IMPALA WAS INVOLVED IN A MODERATELY LOW SPEED FRONT END COLLISION WITH THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE FIRE REPORT, THE FIRE A CAP WAS MISSING FROM THE FUEL RETURN ON TOP OF THE ENGINE WHICH WOULD HAVE SPEWED GASOLINE AS LONG AS THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING.*JB

IN MARCH 5 2013 I WAS DRIVING WHILE A DOG RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR NEXT TO ME AND MYSELF CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AS THE OWNER CAME AND GOT HER DOG FROM THE STREET. AS SOON AS THE OWNER GOT THE DOG A CAR DOING 50+MPH IN A 35MPH ZONE WAS TEXTING AND DRIVING AND THE DRIVER DIDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO BRAKE. THE DRIVER REAR ENDED ME SO HARD THAT THE CAR MOVED OVER 15FT. MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED AND ALSO MY SEAT BELTS NEVER LOCKED SO DUE TO THAT MY FACE BROKE THE WINDSHIELD. I SUFFERED A LOT OF INJURIES. BROKE MY LEFT FOOT, REALLY HURT MY NECK AND SHOULDER. I IMPACTED THE FRONT END, DRIVER SIDE QUARTER PANEL, AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. THE 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA SHOULDER HARNESS LOCKING MECHANISM FAILED. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. MY BODY PROPELLED FORWARD UPON BRAKING AND I IMPACTED WITH A FULLY EXTENDED SHOULDER HARNESS. THE LENGTH OF THE SHOULDER HARNESS ONLY EXTENDS TO 1.5 INCHES FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, MY BODY CONTINUED TO TRAVEL BEYOND THE EXTENSION OF THE HARNESS CAUSING INJURY TO MY LEFT CLAVICLE, UPPER STERNUM, NECK, SHOULDERS AND RIBS. MY UPPER BODY, STERNUM AND TORSO HIT THE STEERING RESULTING IN WHIPLASH, TO INCLUDE ABDOMINAL, NECK, STERNUM, CLAVICLE, SHOULDER AND SCAPULOTHORACIC INJURIES. THE BACK OF HER SEAT SNAPPED ALL THE WAY BACK AND THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT LODGED UPWARD CAUSING HER THIGHS AND PELVIC AREA TO BE SEVERELY COMPRESSED BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND SEAT WHILE HER HEAD WAS JOSTLED AROUND VIGOROUSLY DUE TO THE LACK OF BACK SUPPORT. HER SEATBELT WAS ON AND WORN PROPERLY. HER BODY WAS THROWN FORWARD THEN SLAMMED BACK HARD. WE PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA FROM A DEALER ON MARCH 16, 2006. ON MARCH 21, 2006, WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH. THE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF US STOPPED SUDDENLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND HEARD A LOUD POP. THE BRAKE PEDDLE THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT THE VAN IN FRONT OF ME TWICE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN DOWN A SIDE STREET AND LET THE CAR COAST TO A STOP. OUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER CAME OUT THE NEXT MORNING AND TOOK PICTURES. THE CAR WAS SENT TO A BODY SHOP TO BE TORN DOWN. GM WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE BODY SHOP WAS TOLD NOT TO TOUCH THE CAR UNTIL GM COULD SEND AN INSPECTOR TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE INSPECTOR FINALLY CAME OUT AND RETRIEVED THE INFORMATION FROM THE BLACK BOX AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE BRAKE LINKAGE SYSTEM. HE ASKED IF WE HAD FOUND ANY PARTS IN THE FLOOR UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AFTER THE ACCIDENT. WE TOLD HIM NO. GM THEN TOOK 5 MONTHS TO FINISH THEIR INVESTIGATION. WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ALLOW ANYONE TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY WERE DONE. THEY CAME BACK TO US AND TOLD US THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT THE BRAKES HAD BEEN TAMPERED WITH. WE WERE ALL SET TO GO AFTER THE DEALER WHEN MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES HIMSELF. WHEN HE DID, HE FOUND THE "MISSING" PART THE INSPECTOR HAD ASKED ABOUT. THE PART WAS VISIBLY BROKEN. GM HAS LAUGHINGLY OFFERED US $2,000.00 FOR THIS INCIDENT. MY HUSBAND AND I SUSTAINED MORE THAN $2,000.00 IN MEDICAL BILLS. THIS IS A COMPLETE JOKE. IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKE FAILURE, NEITHER ONE OF OUR AIR BAGS DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH WE HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE STRAIGHT ON TWICE. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ON THIS BRAKE PART OR AIR BAGS. *NM

ABOUT TWO MINUTES LATER THE CAR CRASHED THROUGH MY FENCE AND I RAN OUTSIDE AND JUMPED IN IT AS WE CRASHED THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR. THE CAR HAD TO BE IN PARK BECAUSE THE DOOR OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE WHEELS WERE LOCKED SO IT DROVE STRAIGHT. IT HAS NOW BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 20 DAYS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. GM HASN'T BEEN ANY HELP AND MY INSURANCE CANNOT TOUCH THE CAR UNTIL GM INSPECTS IT. MY RENTAL RUNS OUT IN 8 DAYS.
