THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED, THE STEERING COLUMN HAS GONE OUT, I HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE TIRES AND GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT, THE ALTERNATER WENT OUT, AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. IT CLANKS LOUDLY WHEN SHIFTING GEARS, DOESN'T IDLE CORRECTLY, AND SHUTS OFF. I HAVE HAD IT REBUILT ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ON ONE OCCASION IT EVEN CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE TRANSMISSION IS BACK IN THE SHOP NOW. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 16 INCH )
I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND WAS REAR ENDED BY A FORD F-150 GOING 20-40 MPH ESTIMATED. BOTH MY SON AND I WERE HURLED BACKWARDS BECAUSE THE SEATS COLLAPSED BACKWARDS. WE BOTH SUSTAINED INJURIES TO OUR NECKS AND BACKS. I BELIEVE THAT IF WE WERE NOT REAR ENDED OR THE SEATS WOULDN'T HAVE COLLAPSED WE WOULD HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY INJURIES. I BELIEVE THESE SEATS HAVE A POTENTIAL OF BEING DANGEROUS AND THE COMPANY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT RIGHT AWAY BEFORE SOME ELSE GETS INJURED. *JB
WOULD LIKE TO FILE COMPLAINT ON THE FRAME WORK OF 1997 1/2 TON CHEVROLET PICK-UP. HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER CAR, CAUSING LIFE LONG DISABILITY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. AS A RESULT OF THE DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAGS BURNED THE CONSUMERS FACE AND ARMS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES PEDAL WENT DOWN TO FLOOR, NOT STOPPING VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE INJURED. PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, APPLIED BRAKES BUT VEHICLE DID NOT STOP IN TIME,AND REAREND VEHICLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING BACK AND NECK INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING APPLIED BRAKES, BUT BRAKES FAILED AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE BACKING INTO THEIR DRIVING WAY, GOING APPROX. 5 MPH OR LESS, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BACK THROUGH GARAGE DOOR WHILE FOOT WAS STILL APPLYING BRAKES. TWO INJURIES WAERE RECEIVED BY PASSENGER IN BACK AND HEAD. CAN NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER; UNABLE TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER SHOP NOT KNOWING IF SOMTHING ELSE MAY HAPPEN. AGIN YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER ARE NEEDED.
CONSUMER STATES AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE, THERE WAS A MOTOR RUNNING THAT WAS VIBRATIING THE WHOLE VEHICLE. CONSUMER LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND SAW ABS BURNING RED CHERRY HOT. *AK
WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT CONSUMER WAS REAR ENDED AT ABOUT 50 MPH AND SEAT BELTS DID NOT TIGHTEN UP, AND THE SEAT ITSELF COLLAPSED. CONTACTED DEALER.*AK
WAS DRIVING STRAIHT AND THE TRUCK TOOK OFF ALL BY ITSELF...THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STRAIGHT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ACCELERATOR WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY, CAUSING A COLLISION.*AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN TWO COLLISIONS DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES PEDAL WOULD START TO PULSATE AND HARDEN. VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE ON WITHOUT STOPPING. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *AK
WHEN AT SLOW SPEED THERE IS A POPPING NOISE WHEN GEARS CHANGE, DEALER COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. *MJS
ABS BRAKE FAILURE; WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TRUCK SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE, BUT DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, CAUSING DRIVER TO REAREND ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT, NO INCLEMENT WEATHER. DRIVER HAD PLENTY OF BRAKING DISTANCE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WITH MAJOR BUMPER DAMAGE. *AK
THE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING CAUSING A REAR END ACCIDENT. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE PANEL CAUGHT ON FIRE. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE POWER LOCKS AND THE POWER WINDOWS FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,600. DT: THE AUTOMOBILE WOULD NOT START. NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS, THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE CONSUMER ASSUMED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CAME OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. HE DETERMINED THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE WHICH MELTED THE WIRING INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE FLAMES, WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WAS UNKNOWN. HE WAS UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN UNLESS THE MECHANIC HAD PULLED THE FUEL PAN BED AND DISCOVERED THIS FAILURE. THE MECHANIC OFFERED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. THE PLASTIC SIMPLY MELTED, AND THE WIRING WAS BURNED. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS MADE AT THIS TIME. *AK
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START.THERE WAS A FIRE IN LOWER GAS TANK FLOAT, WIRES WERE BURNED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *AK
A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE MIDDLE CONSOLE, CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO MALFUNCTION. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
