WHILE IN MOTION SEAT BELT WOULD COME UNDONE OR WOULDN'T UNLOCK FROM LOCK IN ORDER TO USE. BRAKES WOULD SLIP. MY BOYFRIEND WAS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED WHICH THEN CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO MALFUNCTION AND THE BRAKES STUCK SO HE WASN'T ABLE TO SLOW DOWN SUFFICIENTLY.

ON 3/24/98 MY 1997 CHEVROLET TAHOU WAS 10 MONTHS OLD WITH 5400 MILES ON IT WHEN THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASH WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WAS TOTALLY DISTROYED. WHEN THE FIRE STARTED IT WAS LATE ON MY WAY HOME FROM A MOVIE WITH MY WIFE . WE SMELLED SMOKE AND I STOPPED BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. WE HAD GONE A LITTLE DISTANCE WHEN FIRE STARTED FALLING AT MY FEET, I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT SOME SMALL TREES TO TRY TO STOP THE TRUCK THEN TRUNED ACROSS THE ROAD AND FINILLY HIT A TREE BIG ENOUGH TO STOP THE TRUCH. WHERE I GOT OUT AND HAD TO PULL MY WIFE OUT AND CALLED 911 ON MY CEL PHONE. MY WIFE HAD HIT HER HEAD AND WAS A LITTLLE OUT OF IT AND PASSED OUT ON THE GROUND. SHE PASSED OUT AGAIN JUST BEFORE THE MEDICS GOT THERE. THE TRUCK CONTENUIED TO BURN UNTILL THE FIRE DEPT. GOT THERE TO PUT IT OUT. GM CLAIMS THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY OTHER CLAIMS OF CHEVROLET TRUCKS CATCHING FIRE FROM THE DASH IN '97 OR ANY OTHER LATER YEAR TRUCKS AND WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONCEALILITY FOR THE FIRE. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY SLIPS OR JERKS TO THE RIGHT. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, BUT HAS INCREASED OVER TIME. ON JANUARY 28, 2003 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING SENSOR. THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED 22 MONTHS LATER, CAUSING DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT 35 MPH. THIS RESULTED IN LOSE OF CONTROL OF THIS VEHICLE AND ACCIDENT FOLLOWED. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER CARE SERVICE WAS CONTACTED AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR INSPECTION OF SAID VEHICLE. THEY RESPONDED THAT IF NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED DURING INPSECTION, THAT CUSTOMER WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR. INSPECTION IS STILL PENDING.*AK

ON OR ABOUT 7/6/02, MY WIFE WAS LOADING OUR THREE CHILDREN INTO THE TAHOE (WHICH WAS PARKED AND RUNNING WITH THE AC ON DUE TO THE HEAT). AFTER PUTTING THE THREE YEAR OLD AND THE FOUR YEAR OLD IN THE CAR, BUT BEFORE SECURING THEM IN THE CAR SEATS, THE 3 YEAR OLD WENT TO THE DRIVERS SEAT. HE THEN SHIFTED THE CAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE (HE IS 2 FEET TALL AND CAN NOT REACH THEM). THE CAR MOVED FORWARD STRIKING A RETAINING WALL, CAUSING MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE. FORTUNATLY, NO ONE IN OR OUT OF THE CAR WAS INJURED, ALTHOUGH THIS COULD HAVE EASILY NOT BEEN THE CASE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS, AND WOULD LIKE IT LOOKED INTO. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THIS EVENT (SHIFTING WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE) EVERY TIME I HAVE ATTEMPTED IT SINCE THE CRASH INCIDENT. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOM, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT TATE CHEVY IN ANNAPOLIS, MD, WHO ADVISED THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THIS HAPPENING ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR WITH CHEVY VEHICLES. HE ADVISED ME TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED DURING OUR NEXT ROUTINE SERVICE, OR TO BRING IT IN TO SPECIFICALLY HAVE THIS PROBLEM LOOKED AT. I PLAN TO DO THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BUT CERTAINLY WOULD PREFER CHEVYROLET TO COMP THE COST OF THIS SAFETY REPAIR. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.*AK

VEHICLE WAS GOING 50MPH AROUND A WIDE RIGHT HAND CURVE WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED WOBBLING/ SPINNING/ WENT OVER EMBANKMENT, AND ROLLED BACKWARD INTO A BARN. CONSUMER SUFFERED NO INJURIES. ALSO, CONSUMER DID EVERYTHING TO CONTROL VEHICLE BEFORE LOSING ABSOLUTE CONTROL. WHEN CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER, THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF ANY INCIDENT DURING THAT TIME. DEALER ASSUMED CONSUMER LOST CONTROL AND RAN UP ON GRASS. CONSUMER HAS HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT INCIDENTS THAT RELATES TO THE SAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER PLEASE ADD THE VIN# AND MILEAGE TO FORM. *AK

STEERING BECOMES OVER SENSITIVE CAUSING VEHICLE TO OVER STEER. VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS. 1997-1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE, 1997-1999 GMC YUKON, 1997-1999 CHEVROLET 1500 TRUCKS, 1997-1999 GMC TRUCKS. ANY GM VEHICLE WITH AT V8 GASOLINE POWERED ENGINE WILL HAVE THIS FAILURE. THERE ARE 1000S OF COMPLAINTS IN YOUR DATABASE AND THIS ADDS TO THEM ONLY NOW YOU ARE AWARE THAT ADDITIONAL MODELS ARE AFFECTED AS WELL. IF THERE IS A FATALITY RESULTING FROM THIS DEFECT THEN ALL CORPORATIONS AND AGENCIES AWARE OF THE DEFECT TIME OF THE DEATH WILL BE LIABLE FOR CIVIL DAMAGES. I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED / RESPONSIBLE FOR 2 REAR END COLLISIONS THAT HAVE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF MY ABS SYSTEM NOT STOPPING MY VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I FELT THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY, BUT CONTINUED TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. JUST LAST WEEK I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AT LOW SPEED WITH MORE THAN SUFFICIENT STOPPING DISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE SLID INTO THE REAR OF OTHER. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS IN OVER 20 YEARS WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND TO HAVE TWO SIMILIAR ACCIDENTS WITHIN A YEAR OF EACH OTHER FOR THE SAME CAUSE LEADS ME TO SUSPECT SOMETHING IS WRONG.
