A FEW MONTHS AGO CONSUMER WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP, AND DEALER SERVICED BRAKES ON 23RD OF FEBRUARY, 2001. CONSUMER HAD AN ACCIDENT, AND BRAKES DID NOT WORK AS GOOD AS THEY SHOULD HAVE WORKED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THERE WERE 3 FATALATIES AND 1 INJURY. *SLC

WHILE DRIVING MY 1998 DODGE DAKOTA AT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL BEARING FAILED, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO BECOME SEPARATED FROM THE BEARING MAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. THE RESULTING DAMAGE REQUIRED THE AXLE, BEARING, WHEEL, CV JOINT, CV BOOT, ROTORS AND PADS TO BE REPACED FOR A COST OF $2036. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 38,500 MILES ON IT.*AK
The contact owned a 1998 Dodge Dakota. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 25 MPH and attempting to slow the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. As a result, the vehicle careened off the roadway and into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The occupants were all transported to an area hospital by EMT for treatment. The driver was treated for chest pain caused by the steering wheel; the contact was treated for a broken arm; the oldest rear seat occupant was treated for a facial injury, losing two front teeth; and the youngest rear seat occupant was treated for a concussion. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 97V170000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.

INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH A TRACTOR-TRAILER. I HIT THE TRAILER AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 20MPH APLLIED BRAKES, RUBBER CAME OFF BRAKES AND FOOT SLIPPED ON GAS, AND ACCELERATED VEHICLE, HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AIRBAGS DIDNOT DEPLOY. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK *SLC
VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN IT WAS IMPACTED BY A MID SIZE GM AUTO TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME SPEED. IMPACT DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE EXTENDED FROM THE FRONT GRILL AREA TO THE LEFT SIDE ENDING AT THE DRIVER DOOR. EXTENSIVE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND FRONT DRIVELINE DAMAGE OCCURED. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED.
WHILE DRIVING A DRUNKEN DRIVER HIT CONSUMER ON DRIVER'S SIDE, AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTALCOLLISION AT 70 MPH, AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOTALED. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK *ML
MICHAEL BOGNER WAS GOING AT ABOUT A SPEED OF 35 TO 45 MPH WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS TRUCK AND HIT A PARKED CAR. HIS AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND BECAUSE OF IT HE SUFFERED NECK AND SHOULDER INJURIES. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORP. TO LET THEM KNOW. THEY SENT OUT AN AGENT, AND HE CLAIMS THAT THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY BECAUSE HE HIT AN OBJECT. HE WENT FURTHER TO SAY THAT THE AIRBAG "MAY" HAVE GONE OFF IF HE HIT A BRICK WALL. RIGHT NOW MY MICHAEL AND I ARE WAITING ON THE REPORT. WE WERE PROMISED IT THREE WEEKS AGO AND WE STILL NOT HAVE RECIEVED IT. WE BOTH FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS BEING KEPT FROM US AND WOULD APPRECIATE IT GREATLY IF YOU WERE TO LOOK INTO IT.
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 25MPH, A CAR RAN A STOP SIGN AND THE TRUCK BROADSIDED THE CAR. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY IN THE TRUCK. *AK *TT

APPROACHING STOP LIGHT WHEN HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY RUPTURED CAUSING A CONDITION OF NO BRAKES AND IMPACT WITH VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 DODGE DAKOTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 32 MPH WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO STOP BUT THE BRAKES FAILED; AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES. THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS FIVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ABS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,882.
RECALL 00V193000 FOR THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE HAS BEEN ISSUED AND REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. *NM
