The contact owned a 2015 Ford F-250. The contact stated their husband was driving at 70 mph, the vehicle was in cruise control and the driver attempted to get out of cruise control by depressing on the brakes, however, the cruise control did not disengage and the vehicle began to accelerate. The driver attempted to manually turn off the cruise control from the steering wheel but it failed and continued to accelerate. The contact attempted shifting out of the drive gear shift position and taking the key out of the ignition to turn off the vehicle but the vehicle still was accelerating in speed which caused the vehicle to crash and hit the rear end of the vehicle in front. Both of the driver's feet were on the brake pedal where excessive force was used but the vehicle continued to accelerate leading to a crash. The contact mentioned that the vehicle independently increased in speed up to 100 MPH or more during the failure. The vehicle was finally able to stop once it crashed into a guard rail. The front driver's side tire and door were detached from the vehicle. The air bags did deploy. No warning lights illuminated from the vehicle. WHILE TRAVELLING IN MORNING RUSH STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, IN AUSTIN, TEXAS I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I APPLIED CONSIDERABLE BRAKE PRESSURE. I CAME WITHIN 6 INCHES OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. I WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 MPH AT THE TIME. ON THE RETURN TRIP IN THE EVENING RUSH HOUR IT WAS ALSO STOP AND GO. I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BUT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD TO PUT AS MUCH BRAKE PRESSURE AS I COULD TO SLOW THE TRUCK (DOING 1 MPH OR LESS). I STILL TAPPED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. AT THE TIME I WAS TRYING TO STOP THE TRUCK, I HEARD THE ENGINE RPM REV UP AND A POPPING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. TAKING THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR A CHECK UP ON THE ISSUE.

Noted strange "thumping" sound in truck. Took to certified local mechanic who has worked on our vehicles since 2016. This truck has just over 117,000 miles, I am the original owner (ordered while stationed in Afghanistan) and there has never been an accident, there has been no reason for removal of the body from the frame unless the Ford dealership who repaired the missing wire harness when the truck was less than 90 days old had to remove the truck bed. Inspection of vehicle noted the bolts holding the body to the frame were missing. Vehicle is currently being repaired. The risk is the body could have come off the frame and potentially caused bodily or property damage. I contacted Ford but have not received any feedback other than the call center laughing at me for the situation. There were no warning lights on the dash nor codes given to my scanning tool by the vehicle. Mechanic stated this is the third F-Series of this generation they have seen this year with the exact same problem. Truck cannot be moved due to safety concerns, locked out/tagged out of service. Repairs will cost approximately $2,500 including time and materials.
