ON JULY 13, 2009 I WROTE A LETTER TO THE CLAIMS DEPT REGARDING AN INVESTIGATION ON AN AIRBAG FIRE DUE TO AN ACCIDENT ON A 1999 FORD RANGER. I RECEIVED A RESPONSE FORM A STEVE BARDELL ON AUG. 20, 2009 THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS FOR A SPEED CONTROL ACTIVATION SWITCH WHICH WERE OF NO CONCERN TO THE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED ON OUR VEHICLE. I RESPONDED OCT. 5, TO PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER FURTHER FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER CUSTOMERS AND THE FACT THAT THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID IN FACT CATCH ON FIRE WITH THE DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL AND TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THIS. I SAW A RECALL ON THIS MORNING'S NEWS BUT WHEN I CHECK THE RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AS STATED, TO FIND OUT WHAT I NEEDED TO DO TO RESPOND TO THIS I NOTICED THAT THIS PARTICULAR YEAR OF VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED AND DEFINITELY SHOULD BE. SPEED 25 MPH TRAVELING DOWN ICY, DIRT ROAD, LOST CONTROL AND STRUCK TREE ON PASSENGER SIDE IN FRONT OF DOOR. APPROX. 10 MIN. LATER CAR BURST INTO FLAMES AND IS NOW TOTAL DAMAGE, ALTHOUGH ORIGINAL DAMAGE WAS ONLY DENT TO FRONT QUARTER PANEL. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1999 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST CAUSING A CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A SPEED BUMP. IN ADDITION, THE SPEED BUMP CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME AIRBORNE AND CRASH INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SIX CRACKED RIBS, A PUNCTURED LUNG, A COLLAPSED LUNG, A FRACTURED NECK, AND SEVERAL BRUISES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER WITH DEFINITY DAKOTA H/T TIRES, SIZE P225/70/R15. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A CENTER HIGHWAY MEDIAN. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHIN AND ARM DUE TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS SEPARATED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS UNKNOWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A SNOWBANK. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGES HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 50-55 MPH ON A BRIDGE HE CRASHED INTO THE WALL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER BROKE HIS NOSE. THE FRONT PASSENGER CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD AND SUFFERED A CONCUSSION. BOTH PASSENGERS WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 127,000.
DURING A 45 MPH FRONTAL COLLISION FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SEAT BELT RELEASED FROM THE BELT BUCKLE. CONSUMER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SUSTAIN MINOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO A WOOD FENCE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
TRUCK PLACED IN PARK. I LEFT VEHICLE TO GO TO MAILBOX. TRUCK STARTED TO BACK UP IN IDLE. DRAGGED ME AND RAN OVER ANKLE. VEHICLE CAME OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE DRIVER TRIED AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT VEHICLE ROLLED OVER TWICE AND WAS HIT ON THE SIDE AND THE FRONT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
I CRASHED INTO A BULL AT 65 MPH, MY BUMPER WAS VERY DAMAGED ALONG WITH MY HOOD , WINDSHIELD AND ROOF. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I DID INJURE MY NECK. P.S. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT. *NLM

DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY UPON FRONTAL IMPACT, BUT PASSENGER'S SIDE DID. ESTIMATED SPEED OF IMPACT WAS 55 MPH. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
CONTACTED FORD AND THEY WILL NOT LOOK AT TRUCK SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY 3/36MONTH.NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK

WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING 4O MPH HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON FRONT END. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED, CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 TO 35 MPH VEHICLE HIT A TELEPHONE POLE HEAD-ON, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT.*AK
