2002 FORD RANGER PICKUP TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE BEGAN TO BOUNCE AND THEN THE TREAD BEAGN TO SEPARATE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL THEN OVERTURNING.*AK
MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS FORD RANGER XL 2002 WHEN DUE TO A PEDESTRIAN, THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES CAUSING MY SON TO REAR END THEM. SNOWY WEATHER WAS A FACTOR. THE BRAKES DIDN'T CATCH AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. HIS AIRBAGS BLEW UP, NOT DEPLOY- BLEW UP AND CAUGHT FIRE! THE STEERING WHEEL BLEW UP! EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE STEERING COLUMN STEERING WHEEL AND DASHBOARD COMPONENTS. THE STARTER WENT OUT AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START. INSURANCE DEEMED THE TRUCK TOTALED. OBVIOUSLY THE AIRBAGS WERE DEFECTIVE!! WAS THERE A RECALL CONCERNING ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS THAT WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF? WHAT COMPENSATION IS AVAILABLE TO US FOR THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT?...UPDATED 02-03-15 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STEER VEER TO THE LEFT. THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED FROM THE IMPACT AND SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES. THE AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. THE FATAL INJURIES TO THE DRIVER WERE CAUSED BY THE IMPACT FROM THE AIR BAG. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. HARD FRONT END COLLISION WITH TELEPHONE POLE. ICE ON ROAD. TOTAL DAMAGE, VEHICLE STATUS IS SCRAP. DRIVER INJURY. HEAD AND JAW. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS IS SECOND FRONT COLLISION. FIRST COLLISION, VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. STRUCK BY WRONG WAY DRIVER. $3400 DAMAGE. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. REPAIRS AT FORD DEALER, ST. LOUIS , MO.
THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN A HEAD ON COLLISION TRAVELING 50 MPH
THE TIRE IS BF GOODRICH P245/75 R16 109S. I WAS UNABLE TO SELECT THE CORRECT TIRE ON DROP DOWN BOX. REPORT AS FOLLOWS. WHILE DRIVING ON I-74 I FELT A BIT OF A BUMP, AS IF I HAD RUN OVER SOMETHING. THE STEERING WHEEL SHIFTED IN MY HANDS THEN WENT SHARPLY INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF CONTROL. AS THE TRUCK WAS FLIPPING I SAW THE GUARDRAIL THROUGH A SIDE WINDOW, THE AIRBAGS HAD BEEN DEPLOYED BY THEN. THE TRUCK KEPT FLIPPING. THE TRUCK THEN LANDED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND SPUN SEVERAL TIMES, THEN FINALLY STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE MY SEAT BELT THEN STAND IN THE TRUCK. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE PASSENGER DOOR THAT WAS IN THE AIR, ABOUT 10 INCHES, ENOUGH TO LOOK OUT, SCREAM FOR HELP AND WAVE MY ARM. A MAN THEN PRIED THE DOOR OPEN ENOUGH FOR ME TO CLIMB THE TRUCK SEATS AND CONSOLE LIKE A LADDER THEN SQUEEZE OUT OF THE DOOR AND JUMP DOWN. AFTER EVALUATING THE TRUCK, THE TIRE TREAD HAD COME OFF OF THE TIRE, WHICH IS STILL ON THE TRUCK AND INFLATED.
BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF AND FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL VERIFIED THE LEFT REARCOOPER TIRE ON MY '02 FORD PICK-UP TRUCK DELAMINATED CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK ON HWY 95 AND GO AIRBORN AND ROLL OVER THREE (3) TIME, LANDING IN THE MEDIAN STRIP OF HWY 95 IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, TOTALLY DESTROYING MY TRUCK. I WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK WITH JAWS OF LIFE, TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. MY INJURIES WERE CONSIDERED MINOR, TREATED AND MANAGED IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT AN AREA HOSPITAL. FOLLOW UP CARE WITH VERO BEACH, FL PHYSICIANS FOLLOWED. THE DELAMINATION OF THE COOPER TIRE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE TIRE. MY SON WAS TRAVELING ON A 4 LANE STATE HWY AT ABOUT 65 MPH IN THE OUTSIDE LANE WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACK TIRE FLEW OFF. HE SAID ALL HE REMEMBERS WAS THAT THE TRUCKS REAR DROPPED ON THAT SIDE, SPINNING THE TRUCK TO FACE THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND CAUSING IT TO ROLLOVER NUMEROUS TIMES UNTIL IT LANDED IN THE DITCH ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE HWY. NOT TO MENTION IT HAD TO GO UP AND EMBANKMENT TO GET THERE. HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. DPS , WRECKER DRIVER, MY HUSBAND AND MY SON COULD NOT FIND THE TIRE, WHICH STILL HAS THE BRAKE DRUM ON IT. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT LEFT REAR AXLE BROKE BEHIND THE FLANGE WHERE THE LUG NUTS GO. I AM TOLD THIS MUST BE A DEFECT BECAUSE YOU RARELY HEAR THIS HAPPENING. DPS AND WRECKER DRIVER STATED THAT VEHICLE HAD GOOD TIRES AND LOOKED AS THOUGH IT HAD BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. IT IS A 2002 FORD RANGER EDGE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S HEAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THIS RESULTED IN A CONCUSSION. DRIVER HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERE HEADACHES. MANUFACTURER WAS PROVIDING NO ASSISTANCE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN CONSUMER'S DRIVEWAY. *AK
ON 12/14/03 I WAS DRIVING EAST AT 50 MPH. WHEN A CAR RAN A STOP SIGN AND A FLASHING RED LIGHT. MY RANGER EDGE FULLY IMPACTED HIS VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AT 50 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUSHED HIS VEHICLE OFF OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A TELEPHONE POLE WHICH BROKE AND CAME DOWN ACROSS THE TOP OF MY TRUCK. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT & SHOULDER HARNESS. I WAS KNOCKED OUT FOR APPROXIMATELY. 20 MINUTES. I SUSTAINED INJURIES TO MY RIGHT KNEE, LEFT ELBOW AND TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. THE FRONT END OF MY RANGER EDGE WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ABOUT 16 INCHES. THIS IMPACT COVERED THE WHOLE OF THE FRONT END OF THE RANGER WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO BEND THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK BETWEEN THE BACK OF THE CAB AND THE FRONT OF THE BED. I HAVE OFFICIALLY INFORMED FORD AND SENT ALL THE REQUIRED INFORMATION INCLUDING PICTURES BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM THEM. THEY SAID THEY MIGHT DO AN INVESTIGATION??? *LA
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 40-45 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BROAD SIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER BLACKED OUT, AND SUSTAINED SEVERE BODILY INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
VEHICLE WAS IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WHILE DRIVING AT 30/35 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES.*AK
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2002 FORD RANGER ON THE FREEWAY. IT WAS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, CLEAR SKIES, SUN OUT AND NO RAIN. SHE FELT THE TRUCK VIOLENTLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT, AND THOUGHT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWN OUT. BUT THE TRUCK WAS THROWN INTO THE GUARD RAIL, A WITNESS BEHIND HER SAID THE WHEEL FLEW OFF THE TRUCK, THEN IT WENT AIRBORNE AND FLEW BACK TO THE LEFT OVER THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, MY DAUGHTER HAD ONLY MILD INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE E.R. VIA AMBULANCE. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED WITH THE TRUCK OR THE FLYING WHEEL. WHEN I SAW THE CAR AT THE WRECKER YARD, I NOTED THE WHOLE WHEEL AND PART OF THE AXLE WERE MISSING. MY DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND FOUND THE TIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE AXLE AND PART OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS STILL ATTACHED. HAS THERE BEEN ANY OTHER REPORTS OF A WHEEL BREAKING OFF OF A FORD RANGER? IN RETROSPECT, THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 6000 MILES AND THERE HAS BEEN TWO BLOWN OUTS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE IN WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE WITHIN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR. COULD THIS BE RELATED AS WELL OR IS IT A DIFFERENCE PROBLEM? *LA
MY HUSBAND DRIVES A 2002 FORD RANGER TRUCK.. HE WAS IN A ACCIDENT ON 3/05/03 WHEN A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIS TRUCK HE WAS GOING APPROX. 35 TO 40 MPH, HE HIT HER CAR HARD ENOUGH TO FLIP HER CAR ON IT'S SIDE. MY COMPLAINT/CONCERN IS HIS AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, HE DID HAVE ON A SEAT BELT AND ONLY SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS HAD BEEN A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING. MY HUSBAND VOICED HIS CONCERNS WITH THE FORD SERVICE AND REQUESTED THAT THEY EVALUATE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM, THE TECHNICIAN CLAIMS SINCE THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT HEAD ON OR FULL FRONTAL HIT THAT THIS IS WHY IT DID NOT DEPLOY. AM UNABLE TO FIND INFO REGARDING THIS, SO WHY DID IT NOT DEPLOY. IS THIS A DEFECT OR NORMAL. *NLM
