Takata Recall. The contact was a Florida Highway Patrolman who was filing a complaint on behalf of the deceased owner of a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle was involved in a minor traffic collision; however, the driver suffered fatal injuries due to the driver's side air bag deployment. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The caller related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V023000 (Air Bags). The failure mileage was unknown.

AIRBAG RUPTURED DURING A FRONTAL CRASH KILLING THE DRIVER
TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE BEEN RETAINED TO REPRESENT THE FAMILY OF A GENTLEMAN WHO DIED ON DECEMBER 22, 2015 DUE TO A DEFECTIVE DRIVER SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG IN A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN LANCASTER COUNTY, SC. METAL FROM THE INFLATOR CANISTER EXPLODED PENETRATING MY CLIENTS NECK RESULTING IN DEATH. DECEDENT HIT A COW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD CAUSING HIM TO RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO A FIELD -RESULTING IN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT 3527 ROCKY RIVER RD. IN LANCASTER COUNTY, SC. CLIENT WAS NOT EJECTED FROM VEHICLE BUT REMAINED STATIONARY IN DRIVER SEAT. The contact owned a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while at a stop light, a crash occurred involving two other vehicles. During the crash, one of the other vehicles crashed into the contact’s vehicle, causing severe damages to the front-end of the vehicle; however, the air bags failed to deploy. The Fire Department was called to the scene and removed the front driver’s side door to free the contact from the vehicle. The contact sustained a neck injury and was later taken by her daughter to seek medical attention. A Police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V081000 (AIR BAGS). The contact was concerned that after the recall repair was performed, the air bag failed to deploy during the crash. The failure mileage was 98,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V788000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that while stopped at a red light, both driver and passenger front air bags deployed without impact. The contact lost control and the vehicle then crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact received shoulder and neck injuries, medical attention was needed. The second vehicle occupant also sustained a back injury and medical attention was sought. A police report was filed but the information was not available. The contact cut the air bags out with a pocket knife and the vehicle was taken to the resident. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the dealer refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle under the recall until the SRS system and passenger seat belt were repaired since it was locked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was transferred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 220,000.
2006 FORD RANGER- Consumer states "2021 I was driving and my air bag deployed as I slightly turned my wheel while driving. It’s hard to remember but The airbag total incapacitated me causing me to hit a tree head on. I am now disabled suffering a traumatic brain injury, and multiple injuries, I am now disabled unable to work and had to leave college. I talked to ford and they ignored me. This isn’t a legal request, it’s not for a law suit, I didn’t file against takata, but my 3 year old son was with me , he wasn’t hurt but it greatly effected him, and my ability to be a father. I need all reports and data involving accidents caused by the takata air bag deploying while driving, I specifically only want reports involving the 2004-2006 ford ranger with the air bag defect. Is that something you can help me with? This is so important. I know there has been deaths and vehicle was a ford ranger, and rangers have been in countless accidents due to air bag. This research is for myself, and I’ve been trying but I can’t find the reports, specially only ones involving ford rangers. "
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 12/15/2011 AS I WAS TRAVELING FROM SAVANNAH, GA. TO ATLANTA, GA. I WAS GETTING OFF MY EXIT TO THE I675 AND SLOWED DOWN BY HITTING THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPEED UP. I WAS NOT USING THE SPEED CONTROL AT ALL AS I MISSED MY EXIT AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP. ON 12/22/2011 I WAS COMING HOME TO DETROIT, MI. AND HAD AN ACCIDENT IN GA. I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND AS I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AROUND A CURVE I IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK FISHTAILED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I TURNED MY WHEEL TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH 2 VEHICLES IN THAT LANE AND ENDED UP IN A CULVERT.I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES BUT LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES OR DEATHS AS THIS VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY ONE INVOLVED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT DETERMINED THE DAMAGES THAT THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 FORD RANGER XLT WHEN I LOST CONTROL AND ROLLED THE VEHICLE 4 - 5 TIMES. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT/SHOULDER HARNESS, BUT THE AIRBAGS ON NEITHER SIDE DEPLOYED, EVEN THOUGHT THE FRONT END AND CAB WAS DESTROYED. THE TRUCK WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AND I AM NOW FACED WITH REHAB FOR UP TO FOUR WEEKS FOR SPRAINS AND TISSUE DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT SHOULDER. *JB
ON JUNE 13, 2006 APPROX. 3:00 PM MY FATHER WAS CRITICALLY INJURED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT JUST OUTSIDE OF MOSES LAKE WASHINGTON. MY FATHER STILL REMAINS HOSPTALIZED AFTER HAVING TO HAVE AN EAR REATTACHED, SEVERE HEAD LACERATIONS, A BROKEN EYE SOCKET, AND BROKEN BREAST BONE, AND HAVING THE SKIN TORN OFF HIS LEFT HAND. THE WASHINGTON STATE PATROL SAYS ACCORDING TO WITNESSES THAT HIS TRUCK FLIPPED 3-4 TIMES CAUSING TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE TRUCK. AT NO TIME DURING THE ROLLOVER AND DESTRUCTION OF THE TRUCKS FRONTEND DID THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW 2006 FORD RANGER WITH LESS THAN 2,500 MILES ON IT. IF IT WAS NOT FOR A PASSING NURSE AND EMT THE STATE PATROL SAYS MY FATHER WOULD HAVE LIKELY DIED. I CALLED BOTH THE DEALER, AND SENT AN EMAIL TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BOTH DECLINED TO COMMENT. DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR REPLACEMENT.. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 16V036 RECALL DATE: JANUARY 22, 2016 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 16S03 FORD HAS YET TO CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW IF THE PART IS AVAILABLE, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE RECALL SAYS THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR COULD RUPTURE IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE THE SUPPLEMENTAL FRONTAL AIRBAGS ARE DESIGNED TO DEPLOY. IF THIS OCCURS, IT MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS. I WAS PULLING INTO SHERRY'S MINI MART IN DOE RUN, MO WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED, EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAD LITTLE TIME TO REACT AS I WAS BEARING DOWN ON THE BUILDING. I PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, EVEN SPINNING THE TIRES TRYING TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. I JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. AT THIS TIME I MANAGED TO POP IT OUT OF GEAR. I DID NOT GO THROUGH THE WALL, BUT PUSHED IT IN ABOUT A FOOT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE WALL AND THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. THERE WAS LITTLE DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK OTHER THAN A FEW SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS WALKING IN FRONT OF ME OR NEAR THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE 50,000 MILES THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY CLAIM THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULD FIND NO FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. THEY DID IMPLY THAT I WAS HITTING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE SIDE OF MY FOOT WHILE BRAKING. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR IMPLICATION AND HAVE WITNESSES WHO SAW MY EFFORTS TO STOP THE TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIFT SIDEWAYS ABNORMALLY. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS EMITTING SMOKE AND THE WHEEL WAS PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE WHEEL BEARING WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED HAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND AXLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THEY STATED THE FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE FIRE COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN HER HOME IF THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED CLOSER TO THE HOUSE. THE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
Problem with fuel pump city switch keeps burning up and causing my truck to to die while I’m driving it. I have got it checked by a mechanic shop and the problem keeps happening. The fuel pump, the cut off switch and the connector and wires have all been replaced and it still continues to happen. This has been happening for years and is causing me to almost get in a car accident.
My truck has been to the dealer on a number of occasions. The dealership (Access Ford, Corpus Christi, Texas) claims that the air bag was replaced. I brought the truck to the dealership in for the airbag issue in January 2017. When I kept receiving notices about the recall and checking the data bases (data bases noted the recall as not completed) I brought the truck back to the dealership in April 2023. Again a check of the recall data bases noted that the recall was not completed. During the April 2023 visit the dealership stated that it was a documentation issue and would recheck the air bag part and ID number and reenter it into the system. Checked the data bases recently and found that the recall was still in effect. Called Ford corporate customer service and they referred me to the dealership. Spoke to a service writer [XXX] at the dealership on June 20,2023 and she stated that there was some issues with their warranty person and would look into the issue and try and get my recall data updated accordingly. As of today (June 26, 2023) checked the data bases and the airbag recall has not been completed. My insurance company is believes that failure to prove that the recall was completed may have a negative effect on my vehicle insurance if an accident occurs. Can this confusion be rectified or do I need to take the truck in again to the dealer? (Copy of receipts for work done attached.) Frame front and rear are rusted to the point the vehicle is no longer roadworthy. The truck only has 68,410 miles on it.
