MY MECHANIC TELLS ME THIS IS HIS 28TH HEAD GASKET REPAIR TO A FORD CAR THIS YEAR SO FAR. I CONTACTED MY DEALER'S SERV. DEPT. AND THEY TELL ME THERE WAS A RECALL IN 1998 FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR MY TYPE OF CAR. I DID NOT GET A NOTICE. I CALLED FORD'S 800# AND THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.

I ASKED THE SELLER AT FORD TO COMPLETELY SERVICE THE VAN BEFORE I WOULD BUY IT. HE SAID HIS MECHANIC WOULD. I CHECKED THE VAN OUT TWO WEEKS LATER, LOW ON OIL, NO BRAKE FLUID, TRANS FLUID VERY LOW, NO WATER HARDLY AT ALL IN RECEIVER, THEN THE STARTER WENT OUT, REPLACED IT NO GOOD, REPLACED SWITCH, NO GOOD, BRAKES GONE OUT, CAN'T KEEP FLUID IN SYSTEMS, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, EMISSION PROBLEMS, MECHANIC STALLS FOR THE HOUR AMOUNT, AND STILL CAN'T FIX/TEST II CODE. INSIDE LIGHTS DIM WHEN EXTRA. LIGHTS COME ON. IT'S A [XXX] PIECE OF JUNK AND THEY SOLD US A LEMON. I PAID OVER $4,000.00 CASH FOR IT, AND ALL THEY WANTED TO SO WAS SELL IT FOR MONEY. WHAT CAN I DO? IT HAS 72,000 ETC MILE AND NOW HAS 82,000. WE ARE BOTH DISABLED WITH TWO KIDS. WE HAVE BEEN SCREWED. I CAN GET THE FORD INFO ON THE FORD WINDSTAR 95 3.8 IT RATTLES, WATER RUNS OUT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE CONVERTER. I WANT TO SUE THEM, I CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID THE HELL WITH YOU, YOU BOUGHT IT AS IT WAS. FORD PRODUCTS ARE THE WORST AUTO'S ON THE MARKET. WE WANT REVENGE AND ALL OUR MONEY BACK NOW. [XXX]. WHAT IS NEXT A HEAD GASKET? I HEARD THAT COST OVER $1,600.00 TO FIX. AND THERE ARE ALOT OF THEM GOING OUT. FORD NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND IT'S PRODUCTS OR GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS. THE TRANSMISSION PUT ITSELF INTO GEAR FROM PARK IN THE GARAGE AS I WAS GETTING OUT THE DRIVERS DOOR INJURING ME AND DAMAGING THE GARAGE WALL AND THE VAN DOOR. AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP THE MOVEMENT, FOUND CAR IN PARK AND ALL TESTED ALL GEARS - THEY ALL PRODUCE REVERSE. SHOWED THE WIFE. WENT TO VIDEOTAPE THE FAILURE, BUT HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TO GET THE RECORDER. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE PROBLEM WAS MAGICALLY GONE! I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VIDEO RUNNING. PLEASE HELP THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY. FORD IS HURTING THIS COUNTRY, ITS CITIZENS, AND PROBOBLY HAS KILLED A FEW BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY. DON'T LET THIS TURN INTO ANOTHER TIRE THING. DO SOMETHING NOW! P.S. MY MINIVAN WAS REAR-ENDED BY A SPEEDING FORD F350 AT A STOP LIGHT. FORTUNATELY I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE VEHICLE. MY SEAT BELT FAILED, IMPALING ME ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED, SPRAYING GLASS CUBES AND SHARDS ALL THE WAY TO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE SHARDS PRIMARILY STUCK INTO THE BACK OF THE REAR SEAT MAKING IT LOOK LIKE A CACTUS. THERE ARE FINE PIECES EMBEDDED INTO THE CARPET AND UPHOLSTERY. I THOUGHT THAT "SAFETY" GLASS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO THIS. AS FOR THE SEATBELT, I AM STILL BEING TREATED FOR THE INJURIES. *AK

THE FIRST 3 INCIDENTS OF THE BRAKES FAILING DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. WE TOOK THE VAN TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS; EACH TIME THE SHOP COULD NOT DIAGNOSE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE NOR CAUSE IT TO REPEAT . EVENTUALLY THE VAN STOPS, BUT IT TAKES 2 TO 3 CAR LENGTHS LONGER TO STOP. THE ABS BRAKES DO NOT INITIATE AND ONE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THE ABS BRAKES ONLY OPERATE IF IT DETECTS THE WHEELS ARE LOCKING. ALL 4 BRAKE FAILURES WERE ON DRY ROADS AND WE DID NOT PUMP THE BRAKE. THE FAILURES HAPPENED TWICE TO MYSELF, ONCE TO MY HUSBAND AND ONCE TO MY SON. IT TENDS TO HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY AND WE CANNOT TELL IF IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ABS, HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM OR THE COMBINATION OF THE TWO. ON EACH OCCURRANCE, THE BRAKE HAD BEEN DEPRESSED TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE SLOWING WAS INADEQUATE AND THE BRAKE WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE BASICALLY COASTS TO A STOP. ON THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE, THE LANE HAD NARROWED FROM 2 LANES TO 1 AND WE HAD SLOWED TO ALLOW A VEHICLE INTO THE LANE LEAVING ABOUT 2 VEHICLE LENGTHS BETWEEN US. THE FRONT VEHICLE STOPPED AND THE SECOND VEHICLE'S BRAKE LIGHTS CAUSED US TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE BUT WE WERE NOT SLOWING ENOUGH SO THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT RESPONSE CAUSING US TO HIT THE MIDDLE VEHICLE INTO THE FRONT VEHICLE. THE MIDDLE VEHICLE BOUNCED OFF OF THE FRONT VEHICLE AND BACK INTO OUR VAN.
