TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, A CRASH OCCURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FLOOR MAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO GET STUCK. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
DROVE ABOUT 12 MILES FROM MY HOME TO MY DOCTORS OFFICE, AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE. I HAD TO BACK UP A FEW FEET TO GET A BETTER ANGLE TO ENTER THE PARKING SPACE. WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE PICKUP SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO ITS MAXIMUM RPM. I HIT A CAR IN THE PARKING SPACE NEXT TO WHERE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK, AND WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY GET THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK, AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL AT MAXIMUM RPM. I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND CALLED THE POLICE. THE POLICE NOTED THAT SKID MARKS INDICATED THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THROUGHOUT THE EVENT AND DECLARED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND ORDERED IT IMPOUNDED. IT WAS HAULED TO A BODY SHOP FOR ABOUT $1700 IN BUMPER REPLACEMENT COST AND THEN HAULED TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THEY CLAIMED TO FIND NOTHING WRONG. I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA AND THEY HAD AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR TO GO OVER THE VEHICLE AND THEY SENT ME A LETTER SAYING THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKES. FURTHER COMPLAINTS TO TOYOTA AND OUR INSURANCE COMPANY HAVE YIELDED NO RESULTS. MY NECK WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT AND WE HAVE ASKED TOYOTA TO BUY THE PICKUP BACK FROM US, AND SO FAR THEY HAVE REFUSED. *TR

THE VEHICLE MOVED INTO A DITCH, HIT A PIPE, AND CONTINUED MOVING ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL IT HIT A STUMP AND THEN A TREE. THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO ACCELERATE DURING THE ACCIDENT. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE AIR BAGS INVOLUNTARILY DEPLOYED, KNOCKING THE DRIVER UNCONSCIOUS AND RESULTING IN A SINGLE CAR CRASH. A POLICE WAS TAKEN. THE DRIVER WAS REPORTED INJURED; HOWEVER, WHEN THE AMBULANCE ARRIVE HE WAS NOT TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 32,800.
THE THIRD OF THREE INCIDENCES OCCURRED ON 3-10-10 WHILE TRAVERSING A PARKING LOT WHICH, AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, I THOUGHT SLOPED DOWN INTO A LOWER PARKING LOT. AT THE EDGE OF THE UPPER PARKING LOT IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THERE WAS A TWO TO THREE FOOT VERTICAL DROP INTO THE LOWER LOT. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND CONTINUED OVER THE EDGE. UPON IMPACT WITH THE LOWER LOT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND, AFTER SWERVING TO AVOID A PARKED VEHICLE, BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. THIS RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE MAKING IMPACT WITH A BUILDING ON THE EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT. *TR
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA, 4X4, 4 DOOR, LONG BED, 4.0 L, V6, EFI. MARCH 7, 2008 TRUCK WAS TOTALED IN ROLL OVER. 3 INCIDENTS TOOK PLACE WITH 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE. OWNER AND ACCIDENT VICTIM, POLICE OFFICERS AT THE TIMES OF EACH INCIDENT. BOTH HAVE HAD DRIVER TRAINING AND ARE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS. 3RD PERSON IS EXPERIENCED DRIVER WHO HAS DRIVER TRAINING THAT IS EXPERIENCED DRIVING CARS, TRUCKS, BUSES, SEMI TRUCKS. DRIVER HAS CDL(BUS) AND HAS BEEN DRIVING FOR MANY YEARS. OWNER HAD 1ST INCIDENT, GAS PEDAL STUCK AND DRIVER HAD TO PUT TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN HIT GAS PEDAL 2 TIMES WITH FOOT ABOUT 6 TO 10 TIMES TOTAL TO GET IT TO DISENGAGE ITSELF. ON THE 2ND ATTEMPT TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL, PEDAL WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR HARD. 2ND INCIDENT, DRIVER HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ABOUT 58 MPH. DRIVER TAPPED BRAKE PEDAL TO TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO RACE AND THE TRUCK PICKED UP SPEED. DRIVER PUT TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND HAD TO HIT GAS PEDAL AND DRIVE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO STOP RACING. DRIVER TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER WITH END 2 WEEKS FOR OIL CHANGE AND TOLD THEM OF INCIDENT. THEY CHECKED TRUCK AND FOUND NO CAUSE OR PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK. 3RD INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON MARCH 7, 2008. DRIVER HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ABOUT 64 MPH. DRIVER TAPPED BRAKE PEDAL TO TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE TRUCK ENGINE THEN STARTED TO RACE AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO FISH TAIL. DRIVER HIT BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND THE TRUCK WENT FROM PASSING LANE OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF ROADWAY AND HIT A DITCH AND ROLLED 3 TO 5 TIMES. TRUCK CAME TO REST ON ITS ROOF. DRIVER WAS SEAT BELTED IN AND HAD TO TURN KEY OFF TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP THE ENGINE FROM RACING. TIRES WERE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE IN 3RD INCIDENT AND IN ALL INCIDENTS FLOOR MAT WAS NOT STUCK IN GAS PEDAL AND HAD NO PART IN INCIDENTS. 3RD INCIDENT ROAD WAY WAS WET AND IT STARTED SLEETING AT THE TIME OF ROLLOVER WRECK. ROADWAY WAS NOT SNOW COVERED. ALL INCIDENTS TOOK PLACE ON 4 LANE ROADWAYS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA ON THE FREEWAY IN LIGHT RAIN. THE STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND MY TRUCK BEGAN FISHTAILING. I TAPPED ON THE BRAKES LIGHTLY BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED ACCELERATING FASTER. I ENDED UP HITTING THE CONCRETE BARRIER AND WAS PLACED IN THE AMBULANCE. I NOW SUFFER FROM LOWER BACK AND POSSIBLE TORN LIGAMENTS IN THE NECK. BEFORE THE ACCIDENT THERE HAS BEEN A COUPLE OF INCIDENT WHERE THE STEERING VEERS OF FOR NO REASON AND SOMETIMES THE STEERING SHAKES WHEN I DRIVE. *TR
I HAD AN ACCIDENT LAST AUGUST WHILE DRIVING MY TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER. I WAS SLOWING DOWN IN A TURN LANE AND I COULD NOT GET THE TRUCK TO STOP WHICH MADE ME CONTINUE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK WAS OVER $8,000. AND I DO NOT KNOW THE DOLLAR AMOUNT CASED TO THE OTHER CAR BUT IT SUSTAINED MAJOR TO THE FRONT OF THAT CAR. THE OTHER CAR HIT ME ON THE DRIVER SIDE NEAR THE FRONT WHEEL AND BACK WHEEL AREAS. I DID NOT RECEIVE A TICKET BUT I WAS NOTED AS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. I ALSO ENDED UP IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM . NO AIR BAGS WENT OFF I GUESS BECAUSE IT DID NOT HIT ME IN THE FRONT. I AM NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DAY OF THE ACCIDENT SO I PUT THE 15TH OF THE MONTH. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT BEING DEPRESSED. THE PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK IN THE ACCELERATING POSITION. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO USE THE REGULAR BRAKES AND EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. HE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN INTO THE MEDIAN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO JUMP OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS STILL ACCELERATING. WHEN SHE JUMPED OUT, SHE INJURED HER LEFT KNEE, AND RIGHT ARM AND HAND. THE DRIVER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS NOT INJURED. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 23,800.

HE THEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CONTINUED TO MOVE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. A PASSENGER WAS INJURED. THE AMBULANCE WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. AT THIS TIME, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE IS STILL UNKNOWN. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN AS WELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

LEAF SPRINGS BROKE AND SEVERED MY BRAKE LINES.WHEN I CONTACTED A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THIS IS SAFTEY RECALL E02. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF RECALL, I LOST MY BREAKS SMASHED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR. TOYOTA WONT PAY FOR A TOW FOR ME TO GET FIXED. I CANT DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE RECALL CAUSED MY LEAF SPRING TO BREAK MY BREAK LINES AND SMASH MY GARAGE DOOR. ITS NOT DRIVABLE
I WAS APPROACHING A RED;IGHT IN PHOENIX, A TRUCK WAS IN FRONT OF ME I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AMPED UP. THE GUY I REARENDED SAID HE SAW MER CROW HOPPING AS MY TRUCK WAS DOING THIS. I HAD MY FOOT FIRMLY PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD. I ONLY STOPPED WHEN I REAR ENDED HIM. I WAS ON A CITY STREET IN PHOENIX.
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A BUILDING. I WAS GOING APPROX. 1-3 MPH DUE TO THE LOT BEING WET & HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WHEN I WAS ALMOST TO THE CONCRETE CURB, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE & SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING FULL THROTTLE, SO I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. BEFORE MOVING, I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, WHICH WAS THE CASE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. I WAS SLOWLY TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF THE GAS PEDAL. MY TRUCK SHOT LIKE A BULLET (ABOUT 40-45 FEET) INTO THE CORNER OF MY HOUSE AND DECK. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT SHEARED A 6X6 DECK CORNER POST, KNOCKED THE GARAGE SMALL ENTRY DOOR COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM IT'S FRAME, AND DID EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO A SOLID BRICK WALL, AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF GARAGE. LUCKILY, I DID STILL HAVE MY SEAT BELT FASTENED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA, THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR, AND NOW HAVE DENIED THAT THERE WAS ANY MALFUNCTION. I AM 100% SURE THAT THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT "DRIVER'S ERROR" AND THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE HERE AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THE BODY DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT I WILL BE GETTING RID OF IT. THE CONVERSATIONS I HAVE HAD WITH THE PEOPLE AT TOYOTA'S HEADQUARTERS IN TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN MOST UNPLEASANT AND HAVE LEFT ME WITH A VERY BAD OPINION OF TOYOTA AS A COMPANY. I WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER OF THEIR VEHICLES! I JUST HOPE THE NEXT PERSON IS AS LUCKY AS I WAS AND DOES NOT GET KILLED OR BADLY INJURED WHEN HIS TOYOTA TACOMA ACCELERATES FOR NO REASON! *TR
