THE STEERING UNIT FAILED CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND COLLISION WITH GUARDRAIL, DUE TO DESIGN OF THE GAS TANK, WHICH HANGS 3 INCHES BELOW FRAME, DURING IMPACT WITH THE GUARDRAIL, THE FUEL TANK RUPTURED AND CAUGHT FIRE, BURNING VEHICLE AND INJURY/BURNS TO CONSUMERS. YH
ON 05/08/99 THE COMPLAINTANT WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT PHYSICAL INJURY (I.E., SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS) TO THE PASSENGER, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF THE VEHICLE AND ITS CONTENTS. THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT WAS A DEFECTIVE STEERING MECHANISM IN THE 1999 DODGE RAM QUAD CAB TRUCK WHICH ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL, HITTING A GUARDRAIL, AND RUPTURING THE GASOLINE TANK. *AK
FAIILURE ON STEERING ON THE RIGHT TURN AND AT SPEED 50MPH. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING THE BROTHER-IN-LAWS 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. THEY STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE OUT OF THEIR DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLES ACCELERATOR PEDAL SELF INCREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET OF THEIR HOME. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS WHICH ILLUMINATED PRIOR OR AFTER. THE CONTACTS NEIGHBOR EXPERIENCED A MINOR INJURY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STAND STILL THE RPM WERE EXTREMELY HIGH AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE OWNERS HOME AND THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED. A DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVERS SEAT BELT BUCKLE WAS CONNECTED WHEN A COLLISION OCCURRED AT AN INTERSECTION INVOLVING A HONDA ACCORD. UPON COLLISION, DRIVERS SEAT BELT STRAP BROKE THE TOP RING PORTION OF BUCKLE DURING DRIVER'S FORWARD MOMENTUM WHICH CAUSED THE METAL RING TO SNAP RELEASING THE SAFETY BELT STRAP AND FAILING TO ARREST DRIVER IN HIS SEAT AND CAUSING DRIVER TO IMPACT TOP DOOR FRAME WITH HEAD. BOTH AIR BAGS WERE DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR SCALP CONTUSIONS AND MINOR SORE NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE DRIVER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES TO HER HAND. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING LINKAGE FRACTURED DUE TO THE FRAME BEING RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 136,000.
TYPICAL PROBLEMS WITH CRACKED PLASTIC DASHBOARD ON 1999 DODGE RAM PICKUPS (2) COMBINED WITH FAILURE OF AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. BOTH SEEM TO BE EPIDEMIC IN PROPORTION, UNFORTUNATELY HAVE EXPERIENCED BOTH. DASH IS NOT SAFE WITH CRACKED, JAGGED PLASTIC EDGES WAITING TO IMPALE OR SLICE YOU, ASSUMING THAT FLYING PEICES WOULDNT DO EVEN MORE HARM IF AIRBAG HAD GONE OFF. SAME PROBLEM IN DASH ON TWO PERSONAL VEHICLES, NOW RELUCTANT TO GO ANYWHERE IN ONE THAT WASNT WRECKED BECAUSE AIRBAG PROBABLY WONT WORK IN IT EITHER IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN. I KNOW MINE ISNT THE ONLY ONE, WHOVER HAS CONTROLLING INTEREST OF DODGE THIS MONTH NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. RIDICULOUS TO THINK OF REPLACING DASH FOR $800 - 1200 WITH A PART OF NO BETTER INTEGRITY THAN THE ONE IT ALREADY HAD. MORE RIDICULOUS IS THE FACT THEY KNOW THE AIRBAGS FAILURES ARE AN ISSUE ON THESE TRUCKS FOR YEARS NOW AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. IT SHOULDNT BE UP TO THE CUSTOMER TO WORRY ABOUT THESE TWO CRITICAL SAFETY ITEMS . I SPENT A MAJORITY OF MY WORKING LIFE IN THE DODGE BUSINESS, HAVE SEEN IT FROM ALL ANGLES, NOW AS THE IRATE AND DISGUTED OWNER OF TWO VEHICLES THAT LEAVE ME WITH NO DESIRE TO OWN/OPERATE. *TR
GOT MY TRUCK FEB.14,2000 AND IN 2001 I HAD TO START REPLACING FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKES. I DID THIS APPROXIMATELY 2 TIMES A YEAR. IT ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE THE ONES ON DRIVERS FRONT WORE OUT OTHERS WHERE FINE. ON OCT.12,2004 A RAINY NIGHT GOING HOME THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHIMMY WHEN I USED BRAKES. WHEN I WAS GOING TO TURN RIGHT THE BRAKES LOCKED UP ON FRONT AND THREW TRUCK INTO EMBANKMENT NOW WIFE MESSED UP HER NECK DUE TO IMPACT. I DID NOT FILE REPORT CAUSE NO ONE ELSE WAS AT FAULT. THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT. I CONTINUED REPLACING PADS UNTIL RECENTLY. ON JULY 28,2008 I CHANGED EVERYTHING EXCEPT BRAKE BOOST AND MASTER CYLINDER. THE SHIMMYING IS BACK AFTER 3 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE PULLS WHEN I USE THE BRAKES AND WILL THROW YOU INTO OTHER LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WITH OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THROUGH THE YEARS AS I TRIED TO REPAIR THE TROUBLE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM, BUT AM TIRED OF REPLACING PADS. I HAVE NOT FIXED BODY DAMAGE FROM 2004 TILL I GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED. I HAVE HAD OTHERS TELL ME OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR DODGE TRUCKS. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A DIRT ROAD, THE CONTACT APPROACHED A CURB AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE STRUCK A TREE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIRS. THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE OCCUPANT OF THE OTHER VEHICLE STATED THAT HER NECK WAS HURTING AND THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY ISSUED A SETTLEMENT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 175,000.
DRIVER WAS IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT HIS 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 HEADING NORTH BOUND ON 4 LANE RURAL ROAD WAY (401 N). THE VEHICLE DEPARTED RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY IN AVOIDANCE OF DEBRIS AND A STOPPED VEHICLE IN THE ROAD. VEHICLE SUSTAINED INITIAL IMPACT TO THE FRONT LEFT AREA RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL CRUSH. AS A RESULT OF THIS IMPACT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT THE DRIVER SIDE DID NOT. THIS PUT THE DRIVER AT UNNECESSARY RISK OF CHEST TRAUMA. DRIVER SUSTAINED OVERALL INJURY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH, WITH PRIOR BRAKING, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FRONT CENTER OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN AT THE SCENE. ALTHOUGH THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN, THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NECK. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A REPRESENTATIVE WHO DETERMINED BASED ON THE SPEED AND DAMAGE, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED.
REAR ENDED ANOTHER TRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 40-50 MPH. NEITHER FRONTAL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. ALL DAMAGE WAS TO FRONT OF TRUCK. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURY TO FACE DUE TO HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. *JB
DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY 70 NEAR QUICNY CA. WHEN RIGHT REAR AXLE BROKE SENDING THE VEHICLE INTO THE ROAD EMBANKMENT OVER TURNING THE VEHICLE ONTO ITS ROOF, THEN FLIPPING IT AGAIN ONTO THE REMAINING THREE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE HAD FRONT IMPACT AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *JB
THE LEFT FRONT TIRE CAME LOOSE ON THE DODGE RAM 1500. THE TRUCK TOOK A HARD LEFT TURN INTO THE CONCRETE DIVIDER ON THE INTERSTATE APPROXIMATE SPEED 65 MPH. THE IMPACT BROKE THE REAR LEFT WHEEL, AND CRUSHED THE FRONT LEFT FENDER, AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF TRUCK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HOWEVER, I HEAR OF A POTENTIAL LINING RECALL THAT MIGHT HAVE AFFECTED THIS. MY BROTHER THANKFULLY ONLY HAD MINOR INJURIES THAT WE ARE AWARE OFF. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50-55 MPH, VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN ANOTHER MOTORIST FAILED TO YIELD, DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS OFF. CONSUMERS VEHICLE TOTALED. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *TT
THE VEHICLE HIT A TREE AND BENT THE BUMPER IN THE CENTER AND PUSHED IT BACK INTO THE ENGINE THE AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. WE FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE MANUFACTURER. *AK *NLM
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A TRUCK AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HE AND HIS WIFE SUSTAINED INJURIES. *JG *AK
WHILE APPEMPTING TO STOP THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE (VEHICLE HAS ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON REAR WHEELS ONLY), THE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD THE PASSENGER CAUSING HIM TO MOVE FORWARD AND HIT BOTH KNEES ON THE DASH, THE SEAT BELT GRABBED YANKING PASSENGER BACK INTO DOOR AND THE PASSENGER HIT HEAD ON THE WINDOW, AIR BAGS ALSO FAILED TO DEPLOY.
