On 22 Jan 2022, airbags failed to deploy during a head on collision. Collision occurred after losing control on black ice. While driving 55 mph along a straight and level section of a single lane highway, truck spun into on-coming traffic. The driver and passenger experienced whiplash, multiple bruises from the seat belt, and the driver broke both ankles and sternum, and needed stitches from a gash above the eye. Truck received airbag recall work at a local dealership in 2016. Insurance has declared the damages to the vehicle a total loss. Owner has signed a release of the vehicle to auto insurance. Not sure if claims adjuster or insurance company is investigating airbag failure. Looks like others have experienced this same problem.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE NECK AND SHOULDERS AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 256,000.
TAKATA RECALL. HAD TWO WRECKS IN 2008 & 2009. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, HAVE BEEN REPLACED, RECALL CSN 1. SUFFERED SERIOUS NECK INJURY ENDING IN COMPLETE CERVICAL FUSION & TRANSPLANTS. ALSO HAVE CHRYSLER 2005/300 4 SPEED AIRBAGS REPLACED UNDER SAME RECALL. HAD NO WRECKS WITH IT. I CAN'T FIND ANYONE TO REPRESENT ME IN SETTLEMENT. TRUCK WAS MOVING WHEN HIT DEER & STATIONARY WHEN A TRUCK HIT US IN REAR & SIDE BACK.

I WAS PULLING OUT OF A SHOPPING MALL TURNING LEFT ON THE HWY 5 IN HOLLY SPRINGS GA WHEN I WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT RAN A RED LIGHT. THE IMPACT TO MY TRUCK WAS JUST IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE BUMPER WAS CRUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FRAME AND THE FRAME WAS BENT OVER 1 FOOT. THE TRUCK HAD BOTH FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS AND NONE OF THEM WENT OFF. MY HEAD HIT THE SIDE OF THE DRIVERS WINDOW AND DOCTORS ARE SAYING I MAY NEED BOTH SHOULDER AND NECK SURGERY. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD NOT BE THE CASE IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED. WHILE I WAS NOT TRAVELING VERY FAST,THE OTHER CAR WAS TRAVELING FAST ENOUGH TO TOTAL MY TRUCK

WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD CLOSE TO HOME I HAD TO SWERVE TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A DEER IN THE ROAD WHEN I SWERVED LEFT I INSTANTLY IMPACTED A TELEPHONE POLE AND CAME TO A VIOLENT STOP WITHOUT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING TO PROTECT ME. I WILL BE FOREVER AFRAID TO DRIVE ANOTHER DODGE VEHICLE OR ANY VEHICLE IN WHICH MY LIFE IS DEPENDENT ON WHETHER OR NOT MY AIRBAG IS GOING TO OPEN.
