VEHICLE IS A 2003 DODGE 2500, SERIAL #X3G-790016 AND IT JUMPS FROM PARK INTO REVERSE. VEHICLE HAS APPROX 10,000 MILES AND THIS HAPPENED THE DAY BEFORE WE WERE TO LEAVE FOR ELLENSBURG, WA ON CENTRAL AVE IN GREAT FALLS AND THEN AGAIN IN ELLENSBURG AT A GOODWILL STORE PARKING LOT. I HAD A GOOD FRIEND KILLED BY THIS HAPPENING ON A FORD TRUCK SO AM VERY CONCERNED THAT IT BE TAKEN CARE OF. THE FRIEND WAS WOODROW MCCRACKEN IN THE LATE 60'S OR EARLY 70'S AT CONRAD, MT. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THE DEALER, BUT HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER A WEEK TO HEAR BACK FROM CHRYSLER LEGAL. ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN ELLENSBURG WA AND THE POLICE REPORT NUMBER IS E03=09377. IT WAS REPORTED TO MY INSURANCE (SAFECO) AND THAT CLAIM NUMBER IS #844587412007 JUST THINK THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED. DICK BROWN. *AK

AT APPROX. 55-60 MPH, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VERY VIOLENTLY. APPLIED BRAKE, TO ATTEMPT TO GET TRUCK UNDER CONTROL; WE ENDED UP IN THE DITCH. MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WERE INJURED. LUCKILY, NEITHER OF US WERE INJURED BAD, JUST BUMPS AND BRUISES. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE TRUCK; HE STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ALL DODGE TRUCKS FROM 2002-2008. THE STEERING GEAR BOX AND FRONT SUSPENSION ARE AT FAULT. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DODGE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME, "DODGE IS NOT AT FAULT AND THERE ARE NO NEED FOR ANY RECALLS". THEY DID SAY THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM, AT ALMOST $2700. THEY WOULD PUT A NEW FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING BOX. I FEEL IF THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, THEN THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. I AM ASKING THE NTSB TO FULLY INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THE ALIGNMENT AND INSTALLATION WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,600.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE REPAIR PERFORMED BY THE CONTACT WAS RULED AS SUBSTANTIAL. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V350000 (STEERING: LINKAGES: TIE ROD ASSEMBLY) AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT WHO REFUSED REIMBURSEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 171,000.

EXACT COST OF REPAIR IS YET TO BE DECIDED, BUT DAMAGE WAS MORE THAN MODERATE. THE LUG NUTS DID NOT FALL OFF. THE HUB BOLTS SHEERED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. DAMAGE IS IN THAT TIRE, THE ROTOR, BRAKE SYSTEM, FRONT RIGHT QUARTER PANEL, RIGHT SIDE FRONT PASSENGER'S DOOR, AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE POLICE OFFICER SAID WE WERE LUCKY TO BE GOING SO SLOW AROUND A CURVE WITH A 40 FOOT EMBANKMENT DROP-OFF. I HAVE READ NHSTA BULLETINS AND DODGE FORUM WEBSITES AND FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS MORE THAN COMMON. MY TRUCK DID HAVE A SLIGHT VIBRATION ON BUMPS WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS NORMAL. HOWEVER, AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND READING HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS, THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE HANDLED NOW...WITH SOLE RESPONSIBILITY LYING ON DODGE CORPORATION. THIS IS UNSAFE. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT.
