DIXIE DONELSON HAD ONLY PURCHASED HER FORD EXPEDITION THE MONTH PRIOR (EARLY JUNE), AND WAS JUST UNDERWAY FOR A TRIP TO VISIT HER DAUGHTER IN COLORADO. THE ORIGINAL POLICE REPORT DOCUMENTS HER LOSING CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 40 MINUTES OF HER TRIP. FURTHER OBSERVATIONS OF THE CRASH SITE HAVE REVEALED TREAD REMNANTS OF NEW FIRESTONE SUV TIRES. HOWEVER, THE EXPEDITION CAUGHT FIRE AND ALL REMAINING TIRES BURNED TO THE EXTENT OF NOT BEING IDENTIFIABLE. DIXIE HAD TOLD HER DUAGHTER SHE HAD NEW FIRESTONE TIRES, BUT WE HAVE HAD LITTLE SUCCESS IN DETERMINING THE ACTUAL TIRE MODEL.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: (UNKNOWN) )
ON AUGUST 7, 2005, MY WIFE, 3 YEAR OLD SON AND I DROVE OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION UP TO WISCONSIN TO MY UNCLE'S LAKE COTTAGE. THE TRIP WAS AROUND 120 MILES ONE WAY. WE DROVE HOME, ANOTHER 120 MILES, AND PARKED THE EXPEDITION IN OUR GARAGE ABOUT 7:30 PM. IT HAD RUN FLAWLESSLY, AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS EVIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE. AT ABOUT 2:30 AM ON AUGUST 8, MY WIFE AND I AWOKE TO THE SOUND OF OUR SMOKE DETECTORS IN OUR HOUSE, AND THE HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. MY WIFE RAN AHEAD OF ME OUT OF THE HOUSE, AND I CRAWLED INTO OUR SON'S ROOM DOWN THE HALL. HE WAS STILL ASLEEP, AND I REACHED UP, FELT HIS BODY, GRABBED HIM AND TORE DOWN THE STAIRS OUT THE FRONT DOOR. OUR NEIGHBORS WERE ALREADY OUTSIDE AS THEY HAD HEARD CRACKLING AND BANGING FROM THE GARAGE- IT WAS TOTALLY SWALLOWED BY FLAMES. I HAD A '98 F-150 4X4 THAT WAS PARKED OUTSIDE THE GARAGE, AND WHEN THE GARAGE DOOR FELL AND THE WHOLE HOUSE WENT UP IN FLAMES, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE TOO AND WAS TOTALED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS FROM 5 TOWNS ALL SHOWED UP AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED, OUR HOUSE AND BOTH VEHICLES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED, AND THE EAST SIDE OF OUR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE HAD THE SIDING, WINDOWS AND ROOFING BURNED OFF.....THAT HOUSE IS OVER 75 FEET AWAY FROM OURS. MY WIFE, MY SON, OUR DOG, AND I ALL GOT OUT SAFE - WE LOST OUR FAMILY CAT. WE LOST NEARLY EVERY SINGLE MATERIAL POSSESSION WE OWN IN THIS FIRE....AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY OUR INSURANCE COMPANIES AND FORD HAVE DEEMED IT WAS INDEED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT STARTED THE FIRE. WE NOW ARE LIVING IN A RENTAL HOUSE WAITING FOR OUR BURNED HOUSE TO BE REBUILT....IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 4 MONTHS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE DUE TO PERMIT COMPLICATIONS. *JB
CRUISE CONTROL RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V017000, CONSUMER WENT OUT OF TOWN, AND UPON T ARRIVAL AT HOME, WAS NOTIFIED BY NEIGHBORS THAT THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE REAR OF THE HOUSE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. VEHICLE/THE SIDING ON THE HOUSE, AND OTHER PERSONAL PROPERTY WERE DAMAGED. CRUISE CONTROL NHTSA RECALL 05V017000. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACTS VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT ON HIS WAY TO WORK. HIS AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. THANK GOD NO ONE ELSE WAS INJURED OR KILLED. HE HAS BRUISED RIBS, A HEAD INJURY, CONCUSSION AND ABRASIONS ON HIS HEAD. HE HAD BRUISES AND SCRATCHES ON HIS NECK. HE HAD BRACED HIMSELF ON THE STEERING WHEEL, HOPING THE AIR BAG WOULD GO OFF AND NEVER DID. FORD TOOK THE CLAIM BUT HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM THUS FAR. WE HAVE HEARD THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME AIR BAGS HAVE NOT GONE OFF. HE IS LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH AND PULLING A TRAILER, THE VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE, LOST CONTROL, CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL AND FLIPPED OVER. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. TWO PEOPLE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD, AND DEEMED TOTALED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH TWO OTHER VEHICLES. BOTH FRONTAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. ALL THREE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN THE COLLISION WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES RANGING FROM HEAD CONCUSSIONS TO SCRAPES AND BRUISES. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP, HOWEVER THERE WERE NO INSPECTIONS DONE PER THE REQUEST OF THE CONTACT.
2000 EXPEDITION HORN FAILED. *TS WHEN THE HORN FAILED TO OPERATE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. ON A PREVIOUS OCCASION, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE ABS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES AND THE HORN WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE CONTINUED FAILURES OF THE ABS AND HORN WERE DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING. *JB
I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. AN ONCOMING CHEVROLET PICK UP TRUCK MADE A LEFT HAND TURN INTO MY PATH OF TRAVEL. I HIT THE TRUCK BROAD SIDE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SPINNING HIM INTO A 3RD VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS ON THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOTALED, THEREFORE NO REPAIRS. *JB
THE PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD BROKE AT 65 MPH, CAUSING CONSUMER TO STRIKE A BRIDGE. CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD WAS SEPARATED. FORD SENT OUT LETTERS TO OWNERS OF THESE TYPE VEHICLES TELLING THEM IT IS ESSENTIAL TO HAVE THE STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION INCLUDING THE TIE RODS INSPECTED EVERY 15,000 MILES. PRIOR TO ACCIDENT BRAKES WERE REPLACED WITH NEW COMPONENTS AND A FULL SAFETY INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. *TT

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE, THEN SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE, THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL, VEERED OUT OF HIS LANE AND WENT TOWARDS A SERVICE STATION. TO KEEP FROM ENTERING THE STATION HE ROLLED OVER. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED NECK AND MOUTH INJURIES. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND TRYING TO AVOID A VEHICLE THAT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH A TELEPHONE POLE. THE CONSUMER WAS WEARING SEAT BELTS, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES. THE POLICE DID ARRIVE ON THE SCENE AND CITED THE OTHER CONSUMER. *AK *SC
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FRONT TIE ROD SEPARATED AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *AK THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE CONSUMER PROPERLY AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. 4 DAYS LATER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE FROM FORD WARNING HIM ABOUT POSSIBLE TIE ROD FAILURE, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VIN AND OTHER INFORMATION WAS WRONG WHICH MAY HAVE DELAYED RECEIVING THE MAIL. *JB
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO SUSTAIN MAJOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR ONE WEEK. POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES WERE AVAILABLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ANOTHER VEHICLE BROAD SIDED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER WAS INJURED, AND TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. *AK
HEAD ON COLLISION AT 35 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.*AK CONSUMER AND ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT HEAD ON, THEREBY KNOCKING CONSUMER INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. NEITHER COLLISION IGNITED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. A FORD REP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE IMPACT DID NOT SET OFF THE INERTIA SWITCH. THERE ARE PICTURES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *JG
