CERTIFIED LTR REQUESTING NHTSA INITIATE A DEFECT INVESTIGATION RE SELECTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY VEHICLES LEFT FRONT INNER BEARINGS FOR ADVANCED FATIGUE CRACKS. *TS COMPLAINANT WAS RECENTLY ASKED TO CONSULT IN THE MATTER OF A FATAL HIGH SPEED HEAD ON TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION. WHILE DRIVING WESTBOUND 2001 FORD EXPEDITION VEERED INTO THE ONCOMING LANE AND STRUCK AN EASTBOUND 2000 FORD F250 LONG BED TRUCK TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAVEL TRAILER. THE RESULTING COLLISION KILLED THE THREE OCCUPANTS IN THE 2001 EXPEDITION AND THE TWO OCCUPANTS IN THE 2000 FORD F250 PICKUP TRUCK. METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS SHOWED THAT THE LEFT FRONT INNER BEARING FAILED ON THE EXPLORER AS A RESULT OF PROGRESSIVE FATIGUE. THE BEARING FAILURE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES. PLEASE REFERENCE ODI# 10139953 TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON THE 2000 FORD F250 PICKUP TRUCK. *NM
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY, AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG CAUGHT ON FIRE. *JB SCC
Air Bags did not deploy Impact directly to drivers side of vehicle the other car was going 55 MPH caused me the driver to hit my head on the window hard. I was informed the air bags should have deployed by officer on site.
I gave a friend a ride to Wal mart in my 2001 Expedition to buy some power steering fluid, luckily I parked over by the automotive section. I turned it off and waited in vehicle till he returned, about 7 or 8 minutes. I started the engine, grabbed the brake and dropped it in reverse when engine revved sending us backwards completely out of control with both feet on the brakes, spinning rear wheels and I turned ignition key off as quick as possible but violently slammed into a truck semitrailer only, parked alongside Wal mart tire shop. Completely totalled out the entire rear passenger liftback, taillights, tailgate, rear hatch window, left rear luever window, left tailpipe, tow hitch package and rear bumper. With only min. coverage, I'm now w/o a vehicle after completely replacing entire front and rear suspension, steering and tires plus alignment less than 6 months prior, with 275000 miles. Thank you very much Ford Motor Co. This was NOT an issue of driver error !.. I WILL find a way to legally hold you responsible for my loss, making FORD liable for repairing or replacing my vehicle ! This happened on Aug 29th, 2022 approx. 4pm at Wal mart property, in Ukiah, CA. 95482
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BACK INJURY, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
REAR UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, RESULTING A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. I HAVE VEHICLE SERVICED REGULARLY AT A FORD DEALER AND WAS NEVER INFORMED OF SUCH A HAZARD. WHILE DRIVING, HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND FELT A BAD JERK, REAR-END JUST FELL DOWN. HAD SEVERE MEDICAL ISSUES AS RESULT. FORD NEEDS TO ALERT CONSUMERS OF THIS PROBLEM AND IMPLEMENT A RECALL, BEFORE A FATAL OCCURS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKES, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AS THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO FOUR DIFFERENT VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE BACK AND LEGS AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND SUDDENLY LOSS CONTROL WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THE ENGINE REVVED AFTER THE CRASH AND THE WHEELS CONTINUED TO SPIN. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DURING THE CRASH. THE CONTACT AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED MILD INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE RESIDENCE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT STATED BEFORE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER PERFORMED REPAIRS AN APPRAISER MUST INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 89,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT T-BONED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED BACK TO THE MIDDLE WHERE THE TIRES ARE LOCATED. THE CROSS MEMBER OF THE FRONT OF THE FRAME SPLIT IN HALF. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, CHEST, AND KNEE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
SEAT BELT LATCH FAILED THEN FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN AN INTERSECTION WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER BUT THE REASON WHY THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALLED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LOW ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE TRANSFER CASE PUMP AND GEM MODULE WAS REPLACED, NEITHER OF THESE REPAIRS FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH IN A TURN, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED IN 4WD LOW AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE HIT A ROCK WALL ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND BOTH OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIRS.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK, CAUSING A VEHICLE ROLL OVER WHEN T CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES. CONSUMER/PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED.*AK
MY FORD EXPEDITION WAS REAR ENDED BY A LARGE GARBAGE TRUCK. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT THAT HIT. MY TRUCK WENT INTO A SPIN AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT AND DRIVER SIDE AND AGAIN THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I SUSTAINED BROKEN RIBS, BLACK EYE, BRUISED JAW, AND BRUISED TAILBONE. WHY DIDN'T MY AIRBAG GO OFF TO ALLEVIATE THE INJURIES TO ME? *NM
STEELING FAILURE, LOST CONTROL OF CAR, CAR CRASHED TO THE WALL. WROTE TO FORD. BUT NO RESPONSE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY SHEARED OFF. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A GUARD RAIL. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. *NM

THE REASON FOR INFORMING THE NHTSA OF THIS IS THE HOPE THAT THESE COMPANIES WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. I DRIVE IS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION, WHICH AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT HAD 26,000 MILES ON IT AND CAME STOCKED WITH GENERAL GRABBER AW TIRES DOT# ADT044T4900 SIZE 275/60/17. THE REASON FOR THIS LETTER IS NOT ONLY TO INFORM YOU OF MY DISGUST, BUT ALSO TO INFORM YOU THAT THIS TIRE CAUSED CLOSE TO $3,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND ALSO PUT MY FAMILY AND I IN DANGER ON THAT DAY AND EVERY OTHER DAY WE DROVE ON GENERAL TIRES. I ALSO WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL TIRE DISTRIBUTORSHIPS, THE TIRES WERE POORLY MADE AND IN ORDER FOR FORD TO MAKE A BUCK AND CONTINENTAL TIRE CO TO INCREASE THEIR PROFIT MARGIN EQUIPPED THOUSANDS OF FORD VEHICLES WITH AN INFERIOR PRODUCT. I DONT EXPECT POOR QUALITY ON ANY PART OF A VEHICLE THAT COSTS MORE THEN $40,000, WHICH IS WHY I AM FORWARDING THIS LETTER TO FORD MOTOR CO. AS A RESULT, I HAVE LOST ALL FAITH AND CONFIDENCE IN YOUR ABILITY TO PRODUCE A TIRE THAT IS SUITABLE FOR THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, AS WELL AS FORD TO PRODUCE A SUPERIOR PRODUCT FOR ITS CUSTOMERS. THIS IS WHY I AM ASKING FOR TOTAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL COSTS, INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF ALL TIRES TO ANOTHER BRAND AND COST OF A RENTAL VEHICLE WHILE MY CAR IS BEING REPAIRED. (ALL RECEIPTS ARE INCLUDED, BUT THIS IS AN ESTIMATE AND NOT A FINAL TOTAL.) IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT I DID HURT MY BACK DURING THIS INCIDENT, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION. DRIVING A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION W/ TOW PACKAGE AND 2TRAILERS AT 55MPH, BACK TRAILER STARTED TO SWERVE WAS UNABLE TO BRING UNDER CONTROL DO TO THE EXPEDITIONS LACK OF SUSPENSION. TOW RATINGS FOR VECHICLE NOT REALIISTIC. LOST CONTROL OF ALL 3 VECH. AND ROLLED THEM ON 7/27/03. BOUGHT EXPEDITION WITH LARGER ENGINE AND TOW PKG. FOR THE PURPOSE OF TOWING. WILL SELL THE EXPEDITION AND GO BACK TO MY 1988 FORD E250, HAS HAULED THE SAME LOAD FOR OVER 10 YEARS NOW WITHOUT A PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER HIT A SEMI-TRACTOR AND THEN INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. AFTER ALL OF THESE COLLISIONS NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SURVIVED THE ACCIDENT WITH MINOR INJURIES.*YH
WHILE AT A STOP ANOTHER VEHICLE REAR ENDED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE AT ABOUT 50 MPH. PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT RECLINED, AND DRIVER'S SIDE HINGE BROKE CAUSING SEAT TO RECLINE ALL THE WAY BACK.PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
