TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE CONTACT'S SON STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT'S SON DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE CANISTER PURGE VALVE (CPV). LATER THAT DAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND A FUEL ODOR WAS DETECTED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING 68 MPH, IT WAS BELIEVED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE STEERING SEIZED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT'S SON DIED INSTANTLY AND THE PASSENGER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. ANOTHER MOTORIST OBSERVED THE CRASH AND CALLED 911. THE PASSENGER WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR THEIR UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V735000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

MY 75 YEAR OLD MOTHER IN LAW WAS DRIVING THIS CAR (HER CAR) ON 4/4/17 IN BELLMEAD, TEXAS. SHE WAS HIT AT ABOUT 40 MPH IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER PANEL/WHEEL AREA BY A 1998 HONDA SEDAN. SHE WAS DRIVING ON A PAVED FEEDER ROAD IN CLEAR SUN SHINY WEATHER. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO THE AXEL BREAKING AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE HIT HER HEAD IN THE ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN HER DEATH A WEEK LATER DUE TO A STROKE CAUSED BY A LEFT HEMORRHAGIC STROKE (BRAIN BLEED). The contact owned a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that she left her dog in the vehicle with the engine off and the windows partially open, as she entered her workplace. Approximately 30 minutes later, she was alerted that there was a vehicle on fire. She rushed outside to discover that her vehicle was on fire. As she attempted to save her dog, the fire grew stronger and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. By the time the fire department arrived, the vehicle was incinerated. Her dog died as a result of the fire and was taken by animal control. A police and fire report was filed. The contact sustained severe emotional trauma due to the loss of her dog but did not seek medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was deemed a total loss and destroyed. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

2013 FORD FOCUS WAS GOING 35 MPH, SAW A LATE 1990'S FORD RANGER STOP SHORT IN FRONT OF A FIRE STATION AND TRIED TO BRAKE. COULDN'T STOP IN TIME AND REAR ENDED THE FORD RANGER. THE DRIVER OF THE FOCUS GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND TO SPEAK TO THE OTHER DRIVER AND THE ENGINE OF THE FOCUS CAUGHT FIRE ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER. FIREMEN WERE ACROSS THE STREET AND CAME OVER TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. WITH ALL OF THIS, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I CALLED FORD TO ALERT THEM OF THIS ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND WITHIN 1 BUSINESS DAY I WAS CONTACTED BY CUSTOMER CARE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHY THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST AND WERE VAGUE ABOUT WHAT THE NEXT STEPS WERE AND HOW LONG THE PROCESS WOULD TAKE. WHEN I TRIED TO INQUIRE FURTHER, THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO KNOW WHAT MY INTENTIONS WERE. I MENTIONED WERE ARE NOT TRYING TO SHAKEDOWN AND SUE FORD, WE SIMPLY WANT ANSWERS.THE INSURANCE COMPANY, STATE FARM, TOTALED THE FOCUS AND THEY ARE WORKING WITH ME TO GIVE FORD THE VEHICLE, BUT FORD IS NOT COOPERATING. I HAVEN'T BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE SINCE THE ORIGINAL FOLLOW-UP AND WE HAVE QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ANSWERED IN ORDER FOR STATE FARM TO GIVE FORD POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. erratic shifting and eratic slipping gears , first happened while on highway and then it wouldnt go in any gear besides reverse and would say transmission overheat wait 5 min . caused another veihcal behind me to slam on there brakes and they ended up getting rear ended from the car behind them ..... all becouse of my cars tcm or transmission issues>!!!! also not too mention ` random unusual noises coming from clutch or shifter when not even start car yet _delayed start and delayed shifting .. i could go on and on this car is a nightmare

THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION. OVER THE COURSE OF 107000 MILES THE VEHICLE HAS EXHIBITED SHUDDING, LURCHING AND BAD SHIFT CHARACTERISTIC AND FRANKLY IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IT HAS HAD IT'S CLUTCHES CLEANED AT 37736 MILES IN OCT 2014, REPLACED AT 38396 MILES IN DECEMBER 2014, REPLACED AGAIN AT 75874 IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND NOW IN JANUARY 2017 AT 107,XXX THE CLUTCHES AGAIN NEED TO BE REPLACED. FORD IS NOW LONGER WILLING TO COVER THE COST EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS CONSISTENTLY HAD ISSUES. THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND CLEARLY THE PARTS BEING USED ARE NOT UP TO THE TASK. WHEN THE CLUTCHING START TO FAIL, THE CAR LURCHES, SHUDDER ON ACCELERATION, SHIFT ABNORMALLY AND HAS A DELAYED ACCELERATION WHICH CAN LEAD TO VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. I WAS RECENTLY REAR ENDED WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE PEDAL (ALTHOUGH IT DOESN'T EXCUSE THE DRIVER BEHIND ME CARELESSNESS).

IN OCTOBER OF 2015 THE PART WAS SCHEDULED TO BE PUT IN BUT THEY RAN OUT OF PARTS SO THE APPOINTMENT WAS POSTPONED. A WEEK OR SO LATER THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION STALLED/JERKING AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND MY SON AND MYSELF WERE STRUCK BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FIXED FOLLOWNING THE ACCIDENT, WE VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED THE VEHICLE TO FORD CREDIT. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE.

I HAVE PICTURES SHOWING THE HORN COVER OF THE STEERING WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE BASE ABOUT A CENTIMETER. MY HORN BEGAN HONKING IN EVEN PULSES. MY STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG NEVER ACTUALLY DEPLOYED. I NOTICED THAT OTHER 2013 FORD MODELS HAD RECALLS FOR STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG FAILURES, BUT NOT THE FOCUS. THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED, LIKE FOR THE FUSION, SEEM SIMILAR TO WHAT I SAW WITH MY AIRBAG. THE FACT THAT THE SENSORS DETECTED THE CRASH WAS ENOUGH TO SET OFF THE AIRBAG, BUT THE AIRBAG COULD NOT FULLY DEPLOY CONCERNS ME. MY VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED, AND BOTH AIRBAGS ARE BEING REPLACED, BUT I WANTED TO BE SURE TO REPORT THIS, JUST IN CASE THIS COULD BE THE START OF A BIGGER ISSUE FOR MY MODEL.
