TAKATA RECALL THE WARNING LETTER 12/17 SAID NOT TO LET ANYONE SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK THIS VERY SERIOUSLY AND EVEN RENTED A CAR WHEN THE ENTIRE FAMILY TRAVELED TOGETHER TO AVOID PUTTING SOMEONE IN THAT SEAT. ON JUNE 20, 2018, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR EDGE. SHE WAS HIT BY SOMEONE WHO RAN THE RED LIGHT. THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL AREA AND BUMPER AREA WERE TAKEN OFF. THE OIL PAN AND WHEEL CHASSIS WERE DAMAGED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS CLAIMED A "TOTAL LOSS." NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/20/2018. I HAD REQUESTED A RENTAL CAR UNDER THE "RECALL NOTICE" ON 6/11/2018 FROM FORD AUTONATION. ON 6/11/2018 AUTONATION SAID THEY COULD ONLY PUT ME IN A FORD150. AS I AM TOO SHORT AND NOT ABLE TO SEE VERY WELL OVER THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS IT HURTS MY HIP TO GET UP IN A TRUCK THAT HIGH. THEREFORE I REQUESTED A CAR SIMILAR TO THE EDGE. AFTER CALLS AND VISITING AUTONATION, THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK AFTER THE ONE CONVERSATION ON 6/11. THEN I CALLED FORD ON 6/18/2018 WHO GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND SENT TO A DIFFERENT AUTO DEALERSHIP. THE RENTAL CAR IS JUST READY FOR PICKUP TODAY.

MY 2008 FORD EDGE (SINCE I BROUGHT IT) HAS BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE PANEL WILL LIGHT UP( WRENCH LIGHT, AIRBAG LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT...ETC) THE ODOMETER WILL GO OFF AND HAVE ONLY DASHES, THE CAR WILL THEN HAVE A LOSS OF ACCELERATION. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS TRYING REALLY HARD TO STAY IN GEAR OR CHANGE GEARS.THIS WILL HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 60MPH AS WELL AS LOCAL ROADS AT LOWER SPEEDS. I WILL HAVE TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND PULL OVER ON THE SIDE. WE FIGURED OUT THAT IF YOU DISCONNECT THE CABLES ON THE BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN RECONNECT THE CAR WILL THEN RUN AGAIN OK. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT SEVERAL TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY ALREADY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO FORD SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THERE IS "NO CODE READING" SO THEY CAN NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS TO FIND OUT IF OTHER FORD EDGES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND I CAME ACROSS A SLEW OF OTHER FORD EDGE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS INVOLVED IN A LATERAL COLLISION TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE/DOOR AT AN ALLEGED 25 MPH WHEN A SUBJECT DRIVING A 97 CHEVY CAVALIER, FAILED TO STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT AN INTERSECTION. SUBJECT HAD A HIGH LEVEL OF INTOXICATION (.175 BAC) & IMPAIRED JUDGMENT; HE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION STRIKING MY VEHICLE IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND DRIVER OF THE 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CRASH FORCES DID PUSH ME THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHERE MY VEHICLE CAME TO REST SEVERAL YARDS FROM THE POINT OF IMPACT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW OR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, SEVERAL EMERGENCY PERSONNEL PULLED AND PRIED ON THE DOOR UNTIL IT OPENED TO FREE ME. THE POLICE REPORT INDICATES THAT THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT; THE OFFICER WHO CAME TO THE HOSPITAL TO FOLLOW UP ALSO VOICED HIS DISBELIEF THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PROPERTY DAMAGE APPRAISERS REPORT SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ALSO. THERE WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER. INCLUDES REPLACING THE L STEERING TIE ROD, L CENTER PILLAR & ROCKER, L CTR PILLAR REINFORCEMENT, L FRT SEAT ASSEMBLY, BOTH DOORS, FENDERS, UNDERBODY REPAIR, SEATBELT, ALLOY WHEEL/TIRE, AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I'M AN OCCUPANT PROTECTION COORDINATOR & CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY TECH/INSTRUCTOR, AND IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH MY COLLEAGUES IN THE SAFETY INDUSTRY, WE'RE ALL SHOCKED AT THE INOPERABILITY OF MY SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS. I ONLY HAD ABOUT 6500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE NEWS REPORTERS CAME TO THE SEEN IT AIRED FOR 2 DAYS ON CHANNEL 5 NEWS. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON MY AIR BAGS SINCE 2017 AND FORD DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS TO MY CAR TO FIX THE ISSUE THEY ALSO DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS IN 2018 AS WELL AND FORD JUST PLACE ANOTHER RECALL ON MY VECHILE AS WELL IN FEBRUARY 2019 FOR THE AIR BAGS AGAIN. THIS ISSUE ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. THE TOWN THE ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE WAS IN WALPOLE, MA ON MAIN STREET.
