ON 9/11/17 MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING HER 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED WITH APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES. A VAN HAD CUT HER OFF DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON HYW. 635 IN FARMERS BRANCH, TX AND SHE ENDED UP REAR ENDING IT. I ASKED MY WIFE WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL AND THE TOLD ME THAT WHEN SHE WENT FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND SHE HEARD A "SUCKING" SOUND BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AT THE TIME (USAA) NEVER INVESTIGATED THE BRAKES AND TOTALED OUT THE CAR. I SEARCHED GOOGLE AND HAVE FOUND SIMILAR SITUATIONS INVOLVING FORD EDGE CROSSOVERS BUT FORD ONLY HAS A TSB FOR THIS ISSUE AND NOT A RECALL. I JUST RECENTLY LEARNED ABOUT THIS PROCESS AND HOPE IT WILL BE INVESTIGATED SO THAT LIVES CAN BE SAVED. LUCKILY MY WIFE ONLY SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES FROM THE AIRBAG AND OUR CHILDREN WERE STILL WITH OUR BABYSITTER.
ON OCTOBER 2016, THE DRIVER WAS WESTBOUND ON 2 LANE ROUTE 40 NEAR SPRINGFIELD, OHIO. A MEDICAL CONDITION CAUSED THE DRIVER TO PASS OUT. THE AUTO VEERED OFF THE ROAD INITIALLY TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR. IT CROSSED THROUGH A YARD AND HIT NOSE FIRST INTO A HILL. ALMOST $10,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE AND THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD AND FACIAL INJURIES DUE TO CONTACT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER ALSO SUSTAINED DEEP BRUSING TO THE CHEST DUE TO THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINT. WE ARE INTERESTED TO KNOW WHY THE AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE AND PROTECT THE DRIVER. THE HEAD INJURIES AND VISION PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO RESTRICT THE DRIVER FORM BEING ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN.
HIT ON DRIVER FRONT FENDER AT 50 MPH AND THEN AGAIN ON THE PASSERGER SIDE AT 10 MPH. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS. *TR
I HAD BEEN HAVING ON-GOING ISSUES WITH ENGINE SURGING, STALLING AND GEAR "SKIPPING" SINCE I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2010, WHICH I HAD REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ABOUT WHICH I WAS IN THE MIDST OF LEMON LAW PROCEEDINGS UNDER GA LEMON LAW. THEY ARE BEST DESCRIBED AS SIMILAR IN NATURE TO THOSE REPORTED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION HERE: HTTP://WWW.USATODAY.COM/STORY/MONEY/CARS/2013/02/25/PROBE-FORD-CARS-SUVS-STALLING/1945799/ AT TIMES, THE ENGINE WOULD CUT OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS AND I'D BE STUCK IN "LIMP MODE". OTHER TIMES THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP, THEN SURGE, MAKING IT FEEL AS IF I WERE HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. STILL OTHER TIMES, IT MIGHT STALL OUT AT SLOW SPEEDS (I.E. WHILE MAKING A TURN, ETC.), LEAVING ME STUCK IN AN INTERSECTION AND VULNERABLE TO BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORD HAD ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT KEPT RECURRING, EVEN AFTER MANY PARTS WERE REBUILT OR REPLACED. FINALLY, THE UNRESOLVED ISSUE CULMINATED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 11/26/12. I WAS COMING OFF ON A HIGHWAY EXIST RAMP AND THE ENGINE "SKIPPED" AND SURGED, PROPELLING ME INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO ONE WAS TREATED FOR INJURY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, BUT THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER CAR DID REPORT INJURY AFTER THE CRASH. MY ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED BY FORD. THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPTS TO GET ME OUT OF THIS VEHICLE, WHICH I AM STUCK DRIVING UNTIL I CAN COMPLETE THE LENGTHY LEMON LAW PROCESS. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURY TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER AND REPAIRED FOR THE EXTERIOR BODY DAMAGES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV UP AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE INDEPENDENTLY TO 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPIN AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A MOTOR HOME. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE PASSENGER OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES AND BRUISING TO HIS RIBS, ARMS, LEGS, AND HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal locked and was inoperable. Due to the brake pedal failure, the vehicle crashed into a nearby curb. The contact stated that his son described the brake pedal as it was hard as a brick. The damage done to the vehicle due to the brake pedal failure was diagnosed and repaired by the contact. The damages were a fractured passenger front side lower control arm and a fractured front passenger front side drive axle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with a failed brake booster and failed brake master cylinder. The brake booster and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, however, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 243,000.
Vehicle is owned by my parents. I am his adult son [XXX] ). My father was driving. He failed to stop in time to avoid impacting the vehicle in front. Based on pictures and in-person inspection, he was traveling at a speed that should have deployed the driver's and front seat passenger's air bags. These did not deploy. The side airbag did deploy. ABS HYDRAULIC MCU UNIT VALVES STICK OPEN AFTER TURNING AND GOING OVER A BUMP WITH THE BRAKES ON. OUT OF NOWHERE THE BAKE PEDDLE GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. YOU ARE LEFT WITH A SPONGEY PEDDLE THAT WHEN PRESSED CONTINUES TO DEPRESS AS IF LEAKING UNTIL IT BOTTOMS OUT. UNLESS YOU PUMP IT UP. I HAVE HAD THE MCU CYCLED AT A GARAGE AND THEY HAVE GOTTEN THE VALVE TO BREAK FREE ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I SEE THEY HAVE RECALLED THE FUSION FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE.
WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND PRESSURE APPLIED TO BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP OR REDUCE SPEED THE VEHICLE DOESN'T COMPLETELY STOP. THIS HAS RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO PRESSING BRAKE IS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE FROM CERTIFIED AUTO SHOPS TO NO AVAIL. MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE DUE TO OCCURRENCES ARE INTERMITTENT. THIS IS A VERY SCARY FEELING TO NOT KNOW IF YOUR BRAKING SYSTEM WILL STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN IN MOTION. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND REVIEWED MULTIPLE BLOGS THAT HAVE RESULTED IN MULTIPLE CITIZENS EXPRESSING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE, YEAR, AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE FORD AND MANUFACTURERS TO THOROUGHLY RESEARCH THESE TYPE COMPLAINTS AND ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE MULTIPLE DEATHS OCCUR DUE TO VEHICLE BEING UNABLE TO STOP. FAMILY LIVES ARE AT RISK WHEN DRIVING THEIR VEHICLES THAT PRESENT THIS INTERMITTENT BRAKING PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY, THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I HAVE HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE IN PARK OR PUT IN NEUTRAL BEFORE PUTTING INTO DRIVE MODE. AGAIN, BRAKE PEDAL SUPPRESSED FULLY TO FLOOR STILL WILL NOT BRING VEHICLE TO COMPLETE HALT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS IN MY CASE BUT FOR YEARS FOR OTHERS WHO OWN THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 8 MPH, THE REVERSE SENSORS WENT OFF. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND BACK UP CAMERA WENT BLANK. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE GEAR BECAME STUCK IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO THE VEHICLE IN THE REAR. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF UNTIL IT BECAME OPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUTCH WAS NOT RECOGNIZING WHAT GEAR WAS SELECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIDWEST KIA (8725 W KELLOGG DR, WICHITA, KS 67209, (316) 448-8493), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
BACKED INTO GARAGE AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED WITH NO WARNING. BROKE SEVERAL 2 X 4'S AND PUSHED THE WALL OUT ONE FOOT. NEW BRIGHTON FORD DEALER HAD DETERMINED ITS A BAD ABS MODULE AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU). ITS BEEN TWO MONTHS WITHOUT THE USE OF THE VEHICLE AS FORD CAN NOT GET A NEW HCU ANYWHERE IN THE USA. THEY SAY THE PART HAS NO DATE TO WHEN THEY WILL GET THE PART. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE JUST SAYS THEY HAVE ESCALATED THE PART AVAILABILITY PART AND SAID TO KEEP CHECKING IN WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. SERVICE MANAGER DOES NOT RETURN MESSAGES LEFT ON HIS PHONE. NO ONE AT FORD CAN TELL ME IF OR WHEN THE PART WILL ARRIVE AFTER WE PAID 1/2 DOWN TO ORDER THE PART. THEN THEY SENT US HOME WITH A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES AS THEY DID NOT WANT IT THERE INDEFINITELY..
DURING THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP OF A 2011 FORD EDGE, A SEVER BREAKING ISSUE EMERGED WITH NO WARNING OR ALERTS OF ANY KIND. THE MAIN ISSUE ARISES WHEN A DRIVER DOWN PRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL DURING DRIVING CONDITIONS ST ANY SPEED. THE DRIVER IS MET WITH A SOFT OR SPONGY BRAKE THAT RETARDS THE BRAKING ACTION WHICH CAN LEAD TO SEVERE INJURY. THE ISSUE AROSE AND WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP WHO CANNOT READILY SOLVE THE ISSUE AND INSTEAD WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE OWNER LEARN OR ACCCEPT THE ISSUE RATHER THAN RESOLVE IT. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED SEVERAL MAINTENANCE ACTIONS INCLUDING A PRESCRIBED PRESSURE BLEED. AFTERWARDS, IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE SEVERAL PARTS THAT NEVER SOLVED THE ISSUE. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE 2011 FORD EDGE IS NOTORIOUS FOR HAVING WEAK OR SPONGY BRAKES BUT GIVES NO SOLUTION. THIS IS A SEVERE RISK TO THE DRIVER OF A 2011 FORD EDGE AND TO THOSE DRIVING AROUND THE VEHICLE AT THE SAME TIME.
WHEN WE RETURNED FROM VACATION WE NOTICED THE BRAKE PETAL WAS SINKING TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR WOULD TAKE A BIT TO COME TO A STOP. AT ONE POINT I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AT A LIGHT. THE PETAL SANK AND THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD AND INTO THE BUMPER OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (NO INJURIES). WE CHANGED THE BRAKE FLUID AND BLED THEM MANY TIMES. WE RESEARCHED ON WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG. ULTIMATELY I FOUND THAT FORD WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER DUE TO SOME SORT OF RECALL. THEY REPLACED IT AND SAID THAT THE CAR STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER, WHICH THEY QUOTED $890 FOR. THEY ALSO CHARGED ME $190 TO DO FURTHER INSPECTION. WE TOOK THE CAR HOME AND ORDERED A MASTER CYLINDER FOR ABOUT $80. WE PUT IN THE MASTER CYLINDER OURSELVES. WE BENCH BLED THE CYLINDER AND ONCE IT WAS INSTALLED WE BLED THE BRAKES ON 5 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, ABOUT 10 MINS ON EACH WHEEL. THE PEDAL WAS STILL SINKING. WE HAD A MECHANIC COME OUT TO CHECK OUR WORK. HE SAID THAT EVERYTHING WE DID WAS FINE AND HE BLED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES. STILL SINKING PEDAL. HE CONCLUDED THAT WE MAY HAVE PURCHASED A FAULTY CYLINDER. I TOOK IT TO 2 OTHER MECHANICS, FIRESTONE AND BIG O TIRES, THEY BOTH SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE THE MASTER CYLINDER. SO...I ORDERED ANOTHER CYLINDER. WE HAD A MECHANIC COME OUT TO INSTALL. STILL...SINKING PEDAL. HE SAID THAT IT MIGHT BE THE ABS SYSTEM, WHICH I SUSPECTED. HE ALSO SAID THAT IT MAY BE THAT FORD WOULD NEED TO USE SOME SPECIAL TOOL THAT ONLY THEY HAVE TO RESET SOMETHING OR OTHER. SO I FINALLY GAVE IN AND TOOK IT BACK TO FORD. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAD FAILED, AND QUOTED $2042.50 TO REPLACE IT, $1400 OF THAT IS JUST LABOR. THE FORD REP SAID THAT ONLY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENTS CAN FIX THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS FOR IT.
BRAKE FAILURE- BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR WHEN BRAKING WHILE IN MOTION- THE POWER BOOSTER HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED BY DEALER UNDER RECALL
DRIVER DOOR INTERLOCK SWITCH CONSISTENTLY FAILS TO WORK. THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON UNTIL THE CAR BEGINS TO TRAVEL FORWARD AND REACH A CERTAIN SPEED. AT NIGHT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE ANYTHING BEHIND YOU WHEN BACKING UP WITH THE LIGHTS ON. IT HAS ALREADY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN I BACKED INTO A PARKED CAR. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD AS ANY PERSON WALKING BEHIND YOU COULD BE HIT.
I WAS AT A DRIVE THRU AND HAD BRAKES APPLIED AND THEN I HEARD A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM BRAKES I LET OFF BRAKES TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE BRAKES WENT HARD AND TO FLOOR CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO DEALER AFTER I LEFT AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BRAKE BOOSTER THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE OR LETTER THAT THE BRAKES WERE RECALLED. I NOW HAVE DAMAGE TO MY FRONT BUMPER.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE 56 FREEWAY WITH ONLY LESS THAN A ONE MINUTE WARNING OF A ORANGE COLOR WRENCH ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WHEEL WHICH WENT ON. I LOST ALL POWER TO MY 2011 FORD EDGE INCLUDING BRAKE, ACCELERATOR YOU NAME IT NO POWER WHAT SO EVER. I WAS SO LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER VERY SCARY. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS, BUT NEVER EXPERIENCES SOMETHING SO SCARY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME WAS ON 10/6/2014. BOTH TIMES I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP LOCATION THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 2 FULL DAYS AND WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME I PICKED UP MY CAR AFTER 1 FULL DAY AND I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT THEY CONTACTED FORDS MAIN OFFICE REGARDING THIS MATTER. I WAS TOLD ON THE PHONE BY STAFF THAT I CAN COME AND PICK UP MY CAR, BUT I WILL NEED TO HAVE A COMPUTER ATTACHED TO IT. I SAID WHILE WHY CANT YOU JUST KEEP THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU FIND THE PROBLEM AND GIVE ME A RENT A CAR. "MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID ABSOLUTELY NOT". I PICKED IT UP AT 420PM ON 10/17/14 THEY GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK LIKE THEY DID WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF, BUT GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THIS COMPUTER THING THEY INSTALLED IN MY CAR. WITH THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS I WAS TO HIT THE RED BUTTON WHEN MY CAR RUNS FUNNY, OR LOOSES POWER. I CAN ONLY PRESS IT 4 TIMES NO MORE THAN 4 TIMES. I TOLD THE STAFF MEMBER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT INSTRUCTED ME THAT I AM SCARED. EVENTHOUGH, MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP KNOWS THAT I AM SCARED THEY STILL RELEASED THE CAR TO ME! PLEASE HELP OUR FAMILY WITH THIS MATTER REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE 2011 FORD EDGE. *TR
ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 21, 2014, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N02. AFTER READING THE LETTER, I REALIZED THAT I WAS EXPERIENCING 2 OF THE 3 SYMPTOMS NOTED IN THE LETTER(SPONGY FEEL WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AND INCREASED AMOUNT OF PEDAL EFFORT REQUIRED TO STOP CAR). I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT. ON MONDAY, JANUARY 27, 2014, I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TESTED THE BRAKES AND THEY CLAIM THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THEM ALSO. BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A RECALL, BUT A SERVICE ADVISORY, THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS AT THAT TIME. I TOLD BOTH THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD HEADQUARTERS THAT I'M STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM WHETHER OR NOT THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I ALSO ASKED BOTH OF THEM IF THEY WERE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BEFORE THEY DID ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. WELL, AS A RESULT OF FORD'S UNWILLINGNESS TO FIX MY BRAKE PROBLEM, I GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT ON MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2014. I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY CAR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP; AND I REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE ENGINE STALLED. THE FAILURE CAUSED ANOTHER VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE STALLING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
