TAKATA RECALL - I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT DURING RUSH HOUR ON A BUSY CITY STREET. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND BEFORE I MADE IT 10 FEET THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES. I HIT HIM FROM BEHIND, IT WAS A VERY MINOR IMPACT BUT MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND EXPLODED/RUPTURED OVER MY LAP. IT SHATTERED MY IPHONE AND BURNED MY LEFT LEG ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE MY KNEE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE FRONT END OF MY CAR I SAW VIRTUALLY NO VISIBLE DAMAGE, ONLY A 2CM PAINT CHIP AND A VERY SLIGHTLY BENT LICENSE PLATE. MY CAR DRIVES PERFECTLY, THERE ARE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS EXCEPT FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT I AM DEALING WITH A FAULTY DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG. I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT I ALREADY HAD MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.

IN 2012 OR 2013 I HAD AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE MUSTANG RAN INTO THE BACK OF SEMI TRUCK. UNATTENDED ACCELERATION HAPPENED TWICE IN THE SAME DAY AND THE SECOND TIME I COULD NOT GET IT TO BREAK FREE AND STOP UNTIL THE LAST SECOND BUT IT WAS TOO LATE IT HIT THE SEMI TRUCK TRAILER IN FRONT OF ME. THIS WAS INSPITE OF ME HAVING BOTH FEET PUSHING STRONGLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE HAD STARTED OFF SLOWLY FROM A RED LIGHT AND THEN THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AND TOOK OFF. SOUTHWEST FORD IN WEATHERFORD, TX HAD CALLED THE FORD ENGINEER TO COME LOOK AT IT. IT TOOK A MONTH FOR HIM TO COME. HE LOOKED AT IT IN ITS BANGED UP SHAPE AND DECLARED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK SOMETHING HAD CHANGED. IT SEEMED LIKE THE SOFTWARE HAD BEEN CHANGED BECAUSE IT NEVER HAD THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND WHENEVER THE BRAKE WAS TOUCHED IT WOULD KILL ANY ACCELERATION IMMEDIATELY. ALSO I LOST ABOUT 3 MILES PER GALLON TILL THIS DAY. THE ENGINEER BLAMED ME WHEN HE OBVIOUSLY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE. VEHICLE TURNED RIGHT FROM A STOP, ONTO A TEXAS STATE HIGHWAY. SHIFTING MANUALLY FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR, THE VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL (APPARENTLY DUE TO LOSS OF TRACTION BECAUSE THERE WAS A COATING OF FINE SAND ON THE TIRES). THE VEHICLE CROSSED 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC, AND IN DOING SO, WENT INTO A ROLL-OVER, REPORTS STATING THE VEHICLE ROLLED 4 TIMES, AND STRIKING A UTILITY POLL THAT STOPPED THE ROLL. THE UTILITY POLL WAS STRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, BY THE WINDSHIELD PILLAR, CAUSING TERRIFIC DAMAGE AND CAVE IN. THE UTILITY POLL WAS BROKEN, ALMOST SNAPPED IN HALF (THE UTILITY POLE WAS REPLACED). WHILE THERE WAS NO PASSENGER OTHER THAN THE DRIVER, THE ONLY AIRBAG IN THE CAR THAT DEPLOYED WAS THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN. THE SEVERITY OF THE CRASH WOULD INDICATE THAT ALL OF THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, TO SHIELD THE DRIVER AND POTENTIAL PASSENGERS. DRIVER ALSO WENT INTO THE WINDSHIELD, THE STEERING WHEEL BAG NOT DEPLOYING. POTENTIAL BACK SEAT RIDERS SHOULD BE PROTECTED IN SUCH A DEVASTATING CRASH AS WELL. PHOTO EVIDENCE WOULD INDICATE ALL BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER HAD NOT DISENGAGED PASSENGER BAGS (DRIVER/OWNER DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DISENGAGE PASSENGER BAGS). ON ONE OCCASION A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE CRASH, AN INFO LIGHT MESSAGE CAME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS WHILE OPERATING THE CAR, STATING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS WERE OFF. I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY. I HAD NOT TURNED THEM OFF. I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR THE MESSAGE HAD DISAPPEARED. ON 02-25-2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 0800 MY WIFE ([XXX]) WAS DRIVING OUR 2012 FORD MUSTANG GT, SHE TURNED ON THE HEATED SEATS AND WAS TRAVELING NORTH BOUND ON GA HWY 49 WHEN THE SEAT WARMER MALFUNCTIONED OVERHEATING AND BURNING A HOLE THROUGH THE LEATHER SEAT BACK, CAUSING A FIRST DEGREE BURN TO THE BOTTOM LEFT FLANK OF HER BACK. ON 02-27-2014 WE TOOK OUR 2012 FORD MUSTANG GT TO RIVERSIDE FORD/LINCOLN IN MACON, GA WE ADVISED THEM OF THE INCIDENT, THEY CHARGED US $95.00 TO INSPECT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE SEAT WARMER TO MALFUNCTION AND BURN A HOLE THROUGH THE SEAT BACK AND CAUSE A FIRST DEGREE BURN TO MY WIFE'S BACK. RIVERSIDE FORD STATED THE CIRCUIT FOR THE SEAT MALFUNCTIONED/FAILED CAUSING THE SEAT WARMER TO OVERHEAT AND BURN A HOLE THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BACK. RIVERSIDE FORD STATED OUR MUSTANG WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING/REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT OF OUR MUSTANG AT A COST TO US OF $1,142.36 (PARTS $715.76, LABOR $350.00, MISC. $26.50, AND TAX $50.10). I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER (1-800-392-3673) SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE AND OPENED A CASE (CASE #: [XXX]) THEY STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS CONCERNING THE SEAT WARMERS IN THE FORD MUSTANG'S AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR US CONCERNING REPLACING/REPAIRING THE DRIVERS SEAT IN OUR VEHICLE BUT THEY WOULD BE LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM. THEY DID ADVISE US TO SAVE OUR SEAT WHEN WE PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED IN CASE THERE IS A RECALL AT A LATER DATE. I AM GLAD MY WIFE WAS NOT MORE SERIOUSLY HURT THAN SHE WAS AND THAT SHE TURNED THE SEAT WARMER OFF BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND POSSIBLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR HARMING OTHER MOTORIST AROUND HER. THERE WERE NO FACTORS THAT COULD INFLUENCE SUCH A CRASH, AS THE ROAD WAS DRY, IT HADN'T RAINED. THE ROAD WAS WELL PAVED. FINALLY, SPEED WASN'T A FACTOR IN THE CRASH. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE DOWNSHIFTS IN GEARS, HOWEVER AFTER A RECENT RECALL WE REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED.

TAKATA RECALL - IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2015 I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 FORD MUSTANG WHEN I EXPERIENCED A MINOR FENDER BENDER, LESS THAT 10 MPH. SURPRISINGLY, THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED CAUSING MY PASSENGER, A YOUNG BOY WITH A STOMACH BAG AND OTHER ILLNESSES TO HAVE TO GET CHECKED IN THE HOSPITAL. THANK GOD HE WAS NOT INJURED BUT HE WAS VERY SHAKEN UP FOR MANY DAYS BECAUSE OF HIS AUTISM. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO BODYART COLLISION CENTER ((908-789-0330) TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS, WHICH THEY HAVE DONE. HOWEVER, THREE MONTHS LATER MY CAR IS STILL SITTING THERE BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH THEY WERE ABLE TO INSTALL THE PROPER AIRBAGS, FORD HAS NOT YET BEEN ABLE TO GET APPROVAL FOR A NEWLY DESIGNED REPLACEMENT DASHBOARD. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE CALLED TO FIND AFTER MARKET DASHBOARD BUT NO ONE HAS THEM. FORD HAS ALSO STOPPED MANUFACTURING THEM, MOST LIKELY BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAG RECALL. MY MECHANIC, MYSELF, MY MOTHER AND ANYONE ELSE I CAN FIND HAS CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (HEATHER 866-631-3788, EXT. 7-7790, CASE NO. CAS8338404) AND THEIR RESPONSE IS "WE HAVE NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO GIVE YOU." NOW THEY NO LONGER RETURN CALLS. WE EVEN SENT AN EMAIL TO THE CEO BUT HAVE NOT EVEN RECEIVED AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE NO CAR, CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ONE, AND AM LIVING WITH MY MOTHER SO THAT I CAN USE HER CAR FOR ERRANDS, EVEN THOUGH I NOW HAVE TO TRAVEL 40 MINUTES TO GET TO WORK. I PAY $1500+ MONTHLY RENT AND I CANT EVEN LIVE IN MY APARTMENT. THE FRUSTRATION IS OVERWHELMING. I ASK FOR ANY RELIEF FROM FORD -- HELP WITH RENTING A CAR, A REPLACEMENT CAR UNTIL THEY THE GOVERNMENT (I ASSUME NHTCA) APPROVES THE NEW DASHBOARD, EVEN A RESPONSE THAT HAS A LITTLE MORE MEAT THAN THE STANDARD RHETORIC FROM THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

MY COMPUTER SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRONIC ASSIST POWER STEERING FAILURE. I COULDN'T CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND I ALMOST HIT A CHILD WALKING TO SCHOOL ON THE SIDEWALK. I TRIED ALL THE RESET STUFF FORD SAYS AND THAT DIDN'T WORK. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE BASICALLY THE RUDEST SERVICE CENTER EVER. THEY REFUSED TO EVEN GIVE ME A LOANER CAR WHILE THEY FIXED IT, WHICH WOULD TAKE DAYS. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP I USE AND THEY ARE WORKING ON IT NOW AND GAVE ME A LOANER CAR BEFORE I ASKED FOR ONE!!!! THIS THING BROKE 2000 MILES OUT OF THE WARRANTY AND I ALMOST KILLED A KID WALKING TO SCHOOL. I COMMUTE ON I-5 AT 70 MILES PER HOUR EVERYDAY AND NOW I'M WORRIED WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF IT SHUTS OFF GOING THAT SPEED. MY REPAIR BILL WILL BE AROUND $2,000.00 FOR A CAR WITH 38,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DAYS LATER. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CRASHING INTO A CURB. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT A FIELD ENGINEER WOULD FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT WHEN THE CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED, THEY WERE NOT REPLACED WITH THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER PART BECAUSE THEY WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. I HAD TWO INCIDENTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY 2012 FORD MUSTANG GT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PREMIUM PKG. THESE TWO INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY MARCH 5, 2013. THE FIRST WAS AFTER I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM ITS GARAGE OF SEVERAL WEEKS AT LUNCH AND DROVE BACK TO WORK. I HAD GONE ABOUT TWO BLOCKS FROM MY GARAGE AND WAS BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE CAR DOWN SHIFTED AND ACCELERATED BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MPH WHEN THIS ALL STARTED. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THEN THE CAR RELEASED AND STOPPED THE ACCELERATION AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND MAKE MY RIGHT HAND TURN. I CONTINUED ON BACK TO WORK AND COMPLAINED TO MY CO-WORKER ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HOW I WAS BEGINNING TO BECOME AFRAID OF THE MUSTANG. HE IS MY WITNESS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING BEFORE THE SECOND INCIDENCE OCCURRED. LATER ON I LEFT WORK TO GO HOME AND ON THE WAY HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN A SECOND TIME ONLY THIS TIME MUCH STRONGER. I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC GOING UNDER INTERSTATE HWY 820 BRIDGE IN FORT WORTH TO GO UNDER THE BRIDGE AFTER GOING THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON EACH SIDE TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN TO GET ON THE WEST BOUND IH820. WELL BECAUSE OF THE TRAFFIC YOU HAVE TO STOP AT ONE LIGHT ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND THEN AGAIN STOP TO GET THROUGH THE SECOND LIGHT ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE TO TURN LEFT. ANYWAY THERE WAS A LARGE SEMI-TRUCK HAULING ROCKS IN FRONT OF ME AND I STAYED BACK ABOUT 60 FEET SO AS NOT TO GET THE ROCKS ON NEW CAR. HE WENT DOWN TO THE OTHER LIGHT WHICH WAS RED AND STOPPED I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MPH AGAIN AND STARTED TO BRAKE WAY BACK FROM HIM BECAUSE OF THE ROCKS AND THE RED LIGHT. THE CAR AGAIN ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I FOUGHT IT THE WHOLE WAY BUT IT WOULD NOT LET RELEASE TILL 15 FEET FROM TRUCK. I THEN CRASHED. ISSUE # 1 BRAKES: UPGRADE "BREMBO" BRAKES SQUEAKED ABOUT 2 WEEKS OUT THE DEALERSHIP. TOOK IT A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES AND DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE, THE 5TH TIME, I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND SHOWED SERVICE ADVISOR AND TECH. ACCORDING TO DEALER THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, BRAKES ARE STILL SQUEAKING, TAKE IT BACK TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME, PICKED UP THE CAR, ON THE 4TH DAY, I WAS COMING TO SLOWING DOWN READY TO BRAKE, PUSHED THE CLUTCH AND CAR JOLTED FORWARD (AS IF I PUSHED THE GAS AND LET GO OF THE CLUTCH). I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT, 5 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR STARTED GRINDING, NOISE WAS ONLY HEARD WHEN DRIVING AND WOULD STOP AS THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT I WAS MOVING CAR FORWARD, IN MY DRIVEWAY, PUT IN FIRST GEAR, CLUTCH IN , AS I SLOWLY RELEASED THE CLUTCH (NEVER TOUCHED THE GAS), AND AS I TRIED TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, CLUTCH ENGAGED, PUSHED THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD THE CAR KEPT MOVING AS IF THERE WAS PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL, ENDED UP HITTING OUR SUV PARKED IN FRONT, CAR STILL DID NOT STOP, ACTUALLY PUSHED SUV ABOUT 10 FEET FORWARD, UNTIL I TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND USED THE HAND BRAKE. ISSUE # 2 A/C - WHEN DRIVING THE AIR WOULD COME ON RANDOMLY, FULL BLAST, THE SCREEN WOULD SHOW EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE AT 00, 2 FANS WOULD COME ON, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE SCREEN DISPLAYING 88 DEGREES (VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH DUAL AIR CONTROLS ). THIS HAPPENS RANDOM AND IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS I'VE HAD THE CAR I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE 3 TIMES. - DEALER CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. *JS
