THE REAR END WILL TRY TO LOCK UP WHEN JUST MOVING FROM STOP
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK HEADED SOUTH ON I-69 IN FORT WAYNE, INDIANA. I HAD JUST PASSED THE INDIANA STATE ROAD 14 UNDERPASS WHEN A SEMI TRUCK TIRE AND RIM (THE WHOLE THING) CAME OFF A SEMI TRUCK AND ROLLED ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC WHERE MY JEEP HIT IT. IT HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY JEEP. DIRECTLY IN THE FRONT BUT THE RIGHT HALF OF THE BUMPER/FRONT END. THE TIRE THEN WENT UNDER MY CAR WHERE IT FORCED ME TO SLIDE IN TO THE CEMENT MEDIAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY HITTING MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT BUMPER AT ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR OR SO. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1998 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WENT INTO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES, WENT OVER A CURVE, CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL AND THEN INTO A FENCE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,400.
DT: CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON TWO LANE ROAD AT ABOUT 20 MPH. VEHICLE IN FRONT OF CONSUMER STOPPED, WHEN CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STOP VEHICLE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND, CONSUMER 'S VEHICLE HIT OTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR. AFTER ACCIDENT CONSUMER DROVE HOME BUT STILL HAD NO BRAKES, HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. CONSUMER HAD MECHANIC COME TO HER HOUSE TO EXAMINE VEHICLE. MECHANIC FOUND THAT BRAKE ROTORS WHERE SEPARATED. CONSUMER DONE RESEARCH ON INTERNET TO FIND THAT THERE WAS RECALL 00V136000 ON MAKE/ MODEL AND YEAR, BUT MANUFACTURE TOLD CONSUMER THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL .. CONSUMER WAS HAVING PROBLEM FIXED BY REPLACING ROTORS. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED REGULARLY. CONSUMER BELIEVED ROTORS WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER SWIRLED IN ORDER TO AVOID A PEDESTRIAN AND ANIMAL. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A DITCH. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A MEDICAL TECHNICIAN WAS ON DUTY FROM THE AMBULANCE, AND EXAMINED THE DRIVER, WHO WAS OKAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED, AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK
BRAKES FAILED AT 20 MPH. REAR-ENDED VOLVO STATION WAGON. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I NEEDED BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. CHEROKEE HAD LESS THAN 14,000 MILES ON IT. FIVE MONTHS LATER JEEP RECALLED ROTORS. BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE ORIGINAL OEM PARTS (IE. ROTORS) THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME IN DISPUTING INSURANCE RATE INCREASE OR COST OF ROTOR/BRAKE REPLACEMENTS. ***NOTE*** JEEP IS ON THIRD SET OF ROTORS AND IS IN NEED OF YET ANOTHER AS THESE ARE WARPED. AND JEEP IS NOT AT THE 100,000 MILE MARK YET! *NLM
MY JEEP WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING TO RUN THE AC FOR APPROX 5 MINUTES. IT JUMPED INTO REVERSE AND RACED OFF (AS IF SOMEONE WAS SEATING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT WITH FOOT ON THE GAS). MY FRIEND ATTEMPTED TO JUMP IN TO STOP IT; HOWEVER, HE WAS THROWN ONTO THE GROUND. THE JEEP STOPPED ONLY AFTER PLOWING INTO A BRAND NEW 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBRAZER. HITTING THE PARKED TRAILBRAZER WAS BLESSING BECAUSE IT STOPPED THE JEEP FROM ROLLING INTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY!! I CALLED CHRYSLER TO REPORT THE ACCIDENT. THEIR ENGINEER REVIEWED THE WRECKAGE AND REPORTED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE JEEP. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!*AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING 30-35MPH AND WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISON HITTING SIDE DRIVER'S DOOR OF OTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED, CAUSING CONSUMER'S HEAD AND FACE TO HIT WINDSHIELD. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK

TO AVOID ACCIDENT MY SON SWERVED & DID A 180 & CAME TO A STOP & WAS HIT BY A FORD PICKUP HEAD ON. JEEP WAS TOTALED. NIETHER OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. CONSUMER TRIED TO JUMP INTO VEHICLE, AND WAS INJURED WHEN THROWN FROM VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. *AK *SLC
WHEN SHIFTING FORWARD ONE POSITION TO OVERDRIVE WITHOUT THUMB BUTTON PRESSED, SHIFT LEVER WENT FORWARD TO REVERSE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL AT HIGH SPEED WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH WITH INJURIES SUSTAINED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED TO THE DRIVER. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS APRX 2 MONTHS PRIOR AND WAS NOT REPORTED BECAUSE DRIVER THOUGHT SHE MAY HAVE HAD THUMB BUTTON PRESSED IN. SHE CHANGED THE WAY SHE WAS SHIFTING TO OVERDRIVE SO THAT THUMB WAS NOT RESTING ON BUTTON AND THOUGHT THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT DID NOT. VEHICLE ROLLED TWICE AS A RESULT OF CRASH. MAY ALSO BE RELATED TO INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OF KEY BEING STUCK IN IGNITION. SOLUTION WAS TO REPEATEDLY PRESS THUMB BUTTON ON SHIFT LEVER UNTIL KEY WOULD FINALLY RELEASE. PLEASE ADVISE OWNER OF ANY FINDINGS. *AK
CONSUMER'S HUSBAND LOST CONTROL OF THE JEEP THAT ROUNDED OVER INTO A TREE, THE SEATS BELT DID NOT HOLD HIM IN, NOR DID SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. *AK
OUR DRIVER HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE HEAD-ON BUT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
CONSUMER STOPPED VEHICLE AND PUT TRANSMISSION PAWL IN PARK, THEN SHE GOT OUT OF VEHICLE TO CLOSE THE GAS TANK DOOR AND STARTED ROLLING ON A LEVEL SURFACE, AND RAN OVER HER FOOT. ALSO VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE SECOND TIME THAT PAWL JUMPED OUT OF PARK. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND AS A RESULT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TREE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
