THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT IT WAS ALREADY DEFLATED. THE DRIVERS OF BOTH VEHICLES DIED AND A PASSENGER IN THE SECOND VEHICLE SUSTAINED HIP AND ARM INJURIES. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 154313000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. TRI LAKES FORD (180 STATE HWY F, BRANSON, MO 65616, (417) 334-7543) ACKNOWLEDGED THE AIR BAGS BEING REPLACED ON OCTOBER 22, 2019, BUT DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE TO WORK THAT MORNING, IT WAS A BRIGHT CLEAR DAY. I WAS PARKED HALF OUT OF GARAGE. AS MY WIFE CAME OUT OF THE LAUNDRY ROOM I TOUCHED THE GAS TO PULL FORWARD. HOWEVER THIS DID NOT HAPPEN, SUV REVVED ALL THE WAY UP AND WOULD NOT REV DOWN. I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES BUT THEY DID NOT WORK. I CAME WITHIN A FOOT OF KILLING MY WIFE. TO MAKE THIS SO BAD I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS BEFORE SO HAS MY WIFE. MY SUV LITERALLY WENT THROUGH 3 WALLS AND SEVERAL ROOMS. I HAVE 3 DISK FUSED IN MY NECK AND SEVERAL OF THE SCREWS ARE BROKE. I CAN LIVE BEING A CRIPPLE BUT I CANT LIVE WITH OUT MY WIFE. CHRYSLER HAD INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I TOLD HIM IT WAS AT EAGLE PAINT AND BODY, AND DID HE NEED ME TO STOP ALL REPAIRS. HE TOLD ME KNOW HE COULD GET HIS DATA FROM COMPUTER. THE CHRYSLER LEGAL TEAM SENT NE A NASTY LETTER STATING THAT I HADE MOVED THE VEHICLE AND THEY WERE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE. I EVEN TRIED TO CALL CHRYSLER BACK TO TELL THEM THE SUV DID THE SAME THING, BUT THEY INFORMED ME LEGAL TOOK OVER THE CASE AND THEY NEEDED NO OTHER DATA FROM ME. JUST ONE THING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND KILLS MYSELF, MY FAMILY OR A BUS OF KIDS. WHO WILL BE GOING TO JAIL FOR THE REST OF THERE LIFE.
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT 5.7L HEMI. NEVER HAD ANY BIG ISSUES WITH IT UNTIL IN 2014 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND LOUD KNOCKING NOISES FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY AN ABRUPT SHUT OFF. I TRIED IMMEDIATELY TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT WHEN I LOST POWER STEERING FROM THE ENGINE CEIZING AND COULDN'T CORRECT MYSELF ENOUGH SO I WENT DOWN THE HILL OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO BREAK WITH NO BRAKE BOOSTER ANYMORE AS WELL. I ENDED UP RUNNING INTO A COUPLE SMALL TREE'S AND FINALLY STOPPING . AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND I ONLY JAMMED MY FINGER AND HURT MY BACK SOME BUT I ONLY MISSED A LARGER GROUP OF TREE BY INCHES. MY FRONT BUMPER WAS RIPPED OFF, MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS BROKE AS WELL AS MY GRILLE AND MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE "HYDROLOCKED" AND A PISTON ROD PUNCHED THROUGH MY ENGINE AND BROKE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS INTERNALLY. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE ENGINE IS GONE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS MORE PEOPLE THAT HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEIR 04 AND 05 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. APPARENTLY THE WATER RUNS RIGHT DOWN ONTO THE ENGINE AND POOLS UP AND THE INTAKE IS FAULTY SO IT SUCKS THAT WATER UP AND CAUSES A CATASTROPHIC HYDROLOCK WITH THE ENGINE WHICH COULD KILL SOMEONE IF THEY LOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WITHIN A SECOND. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SAVE TO GET A NEW ENGINE (WHICH WILL COST ABOUT $3800 ALONE) BECAUSE I BOUGHT THIS FOR TOO MUCH AND NEITHER DODGE OR MY INSURANCE WOULD COVER IT SO IT'S NOW A PILE OF SCRAP UNTIL I HOPEFULLY CAN GET A NEW ENGINE OR HAVE DODGE BUY THIS DEATH TRAP BACK. DODGE NEEDS TO BUY THESE BACK OR FIX THEM! THIS IS BY FAR NOT AN INDIVIDUAL CASE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COSTLY!

DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT OF THE CAR SLAMMING INTO THE TELEPHONE POLE. IT WAS NOT UNTIL AFTER THE DRIVER HAD UNBUCKLED HERSELF THAT SHE SMELLED SMOKE AND THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. SHE SLAMMED HER BODY AND HEAD ALL OVER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED A CONCUSION AND OTHER MEDICAL INJURIES DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTIONING AIR BAG. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING UNSTABLE AND THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES, AS WELL AS TWO OTHER PASSENGERS. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE AIR BAG INDEPENDENTLY DEPLOYING BECAUSE IT WAS CAUSED BY AN UNDERCARRIAGE FAILURE. OUR 2004 DODGE DURANGO WAS IN OUR DRIVEWAY IN PARK, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, RADIO ON, BOTH FRONT DOORS OPEN AND KEYS STILL IN THE IGNITION. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN SITTING THERE FOR 5 MINUTES OR MORE TILL I GOT MY NEIGHBOR TO HELP ME UNLOAD A GRILL OUT OF THE BACK. MY WIFE HOPPED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO TURN THE RADIO DOWN WHEN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD WHILE IN "PARK". MY WIFE WAS KNOCKED OUT OF THE TRUCK AND WAS HURT BADLY ON HER LEG AND IT RAN INTO MY NEIGHBOR'S CAR THEN ROLLED INTO THE STREET. I RAN AFTER THE TRUCK TO STOP IT FROM GOING ANY FURTHER, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE THEN LOOKED AT THE SHIFT HANDLE AND IT WAS STILL IN "PARK". *TR
I RECENTLY GOT BACK FROM IRAQ ON NOV 30TH. I NEEDED A FAMILY VEHICLE, ASIDE FROM OUR DODGE PICKUP THAT HAS LITTLE ROOM FOR TWO KIDS IN CAR SEATS. I BOUGHT THE DURANGO ON A FRIDAY. IT WAS USED , SO IT CAME WITH A FREE FULL DETAIL ON MONDAY. I DROPPED IT OFF AND WENT TO WORK. AFTER WORK, I WENT TO PICK IT UP AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TAILLIGHT WAS SMASHED AND THE REAR BUMPER ON THE LEFT SIDE UNDERNEATH THE SMASHED TAILLIGHT, WAS DENTED! A WEEK LATER IT WAS ALL FIXED;OR SO I THOUGHT. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM MORNING PHYSICAL TRAINING,TO CHANGE INTO MY UNIFORM. I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO MY STREET, AND THEN IT HAPPENED. MY BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I PUMPED AND PUMPED, BUT NO RESPONSE. I HIT A UTILITY VAN THAT WAS AT THE STOP SIGN AND ALMOST TOTALED MY WHOLE FRONT END. IT HAS TAKEN OVER A MONTH AND A HALF TO GET THE DURANGO FIXED. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT I MANAGED TO SLOW DOWN TO 15 MPH BEFORE THE BRAKES LOCKED UP! I AM CURRENTLY RECEIVING CHIROPRACTOR THERAPY AND ON HEAVY PAIN MEDS DUE TO THE ACCIDENT. *NM
FINALLY GOT TRUCK BACK FROM BODY SHOP (9 WEEKS) AND SERVICE AFTER A TOTAL OF $13219 IN DAMAGE. ALL CAUSED BY THIS STALLING PROBLEM ON 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH A HEMI. STILL AFTER THE ACCIDENT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME WHY THIS HAPPENED. THE TYPICAL ANSWER IS "SORRY BUT WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM AND NO CODES ARE COMING UP". SO TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN !!! I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD THE TRUCK BACK FOR 1 MONTH !!! GOT IN THE TRUCK ON SATURDAY AROUND 10:00 AM (5/20) WITH MY WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN AFTER A HAIRCUT. STARTED THE TRUCK, PUT IT REVERSE AND NOTHING. IT STALLED !?!?! TRIED TWICE MORE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. FINALLY THE TRUCK STAYED STARTED ON THE FORTH TRY. STARTED DOWN THE ROAD DOING ABOUT 30-35 MPH, COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE TRUCK STALLED. IMAGINE THAT !!! STOPPED AND PUT IN PARK AND STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. GOT BACK TO OUR HOUSE AND CALLED DEALER. HE SAID BRING IT UP. GOT A CALL TODAY (MONDAY 5/22) FROM DEALER AND YOU WILL NEVER GUESS THE ANSWER I GOT. YOUR RIGHT !!! " SORRY BUT WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM AND NO CODES ARE COMING UP".
