Durango was T-boned on driver's side. Durango was turning left into a parking lot from a county road. Tahoe was going 50-55+mph in the same lane and direction as Durango. Durango put on left turn signal, slowed down to ~10mph, and turned left towards parking lot. At the same time, Tahoe sped up behind Durango, Tahoe tried to pass Durango on the left. Tahoe collided with left side of Durango, pushing it 30+ feet into the ditch. Tahoe drivers airbag deployed. No airbags deployed in the Durango. The Driver of the Durango smashed head/face into door column, causing concussion, whiplash, contusion to forehead/eyebrow requiring 8 stitches.

DODGE DURANGO 2011 CREW-TRACTION DEFECT. GOT THE CAR 12/23/11. ON 1/12/12, DURING SNOW STORM. I LEFT WORK, CAR WOULD NOT STAY ON THE ROAD, SLID SIDEWAYS AS I TURNED. I WAS ON THE PHONE W/CO-WORKER WHO WAS BEHIND ME. I ASKED IF HE SAW MY CAR SLIDE, HE SAID YES, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP ON THE ROAD SO TOLD HIM I HAD TO GO.I DROVE TO PEORIA. I WAS GOING VERY SLOW. WENT TO SWIM MEET, THEN HEADED HOME DOWN KNOXVILLE AVE. MAYBE10 MPH, VERY CAUTIOUS, EVERYONE WAS PASSING ME. SIGNAL TURNED YELLOW, THEN RED, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE ON, CAR CONTINUED TO SLIDE. I SAW A TRUCK COMING A LONG WAY DOWN, I SLID INTO CROSS TRAFFIC, AND HIT THAT TRUCK. (I HAD PAIN IN MY SHOULDER, THE PAIN CONTINUED, & ON 3/30/12, HAD EMERGENCY SURGERY 4 RUPTURED CERVICAL SPINE. I NOW HAVE A PLATE,& 4 SCREWS IN MY NECK.)GOT THE CAR BACK, & TOOK IT TO TIRE SHOP TO PUT BETTER TIRES ON IT. WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG W/TIRES, & THEY WERE BETTER TIRES THAN THEY COULD SELL ME. THIS YEAR IN LESS THEN 1 INCH OF SNOW, THE CAR DID A 180 SLIDE ON MY DRIVE, THEN SLID INTO TRAFFIC (LEVEL SURFACE), A CAR MISSED ME BY INCHES. SLIDE EVEN IN A QUARTER INCH SNOW. DOESN'T MATTER WHO IS DRIVING IT, THEY SLIDE. I AGAIN WENT 2 A DIFFERENT TIRE PLACE. THEY WANTED TO SELL ME THE SAME TIRES, I SAID NO WAY! THEY OFFERED ALTERNATIVES. I DECIDED TO GOOGLE WHAT KIND OF TIRES WOULD BE GOOD FOR MY CAR. MUCH TO MY DISMAY, APPARENTLY NONE ARE. WHAT I FOUND, WAS THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL '11 DURANGO OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TIRES ON THEIR CARS. SAME PROBLEMS, DIFFERENT TIRES & DIFFERENT TIRE MANUFACTURERS. THEIR CARS WILL NOT STAY ON THE ROAD WITH SNOW OR ICE EITHER. IT IS NOT THE TIRES, ITS A THE CAR! PLEASE STOP THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I HAD SMELLED SOMETHING IN MY CAR FOR A WHILE AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS. ABOUT 15 MINS INTO MY TRIP, MY EYES STARTED TO BURN AND TEAR, AND MY NOSE FELT LIKE IT WAS ON FIRE. BUT I GOT IT SUBSIDED. ANOTHER 15 MINS LATER I LOOKED OVER AT MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND REALIZED MY CAR WAS SMOKING AND IT WAS COMING FROM MY SUN VISOR. I HAD TO WAIT TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AS I WAS IN THE I-PASS LANE AND HAD TO GET PAST A CEMENT WALL BEFORE GETTING MY CAR SAFELY AWAY FROM OTHER TRAFFIC. I STOPPED MY CAR, AND CALLED 911. STATE TROOPER SHOWED UP, AND AS HE WAS WALKING TO HIS CAR TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, FLAMES STARTED. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AT THIS TIME, BUT THE SMOKE STARTED AS I WAS DRIVING. AFTER THE STATE TROOPER USED THE EXTINGUISHER, IT WAS STILL SMOKING SO HE CALLED IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY THEN RIPPED THE LINER DOWN SO THEY COULD SPRAY THE AREA WITH WATER. ONCE MY HUSBAND ARRIVED HE THEN DISCONNECTED THE CAR BATTERY TO MAKE IT SAFE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE RECALL FOR THE SUN VISOR WAS PERFORMED. WE ARE NOW WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM CHRYSLER TO SEE WHAT OUR NEXT STEP IS. I HAVE A DOCTOR APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH TO VERIFY THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY. INHALING SMOKE AND THE FUMES IS WHY I AM DOING THIS. THIS IS THE FIRST APPOINTMENT I COULD GET WITH MY DOCTOR.

I was in a blizzard a few days ago on the freeway & got caught in a ditch, but thankfully got out. I wasn’t going that fast & couldn’t due to not being able to see through the snow well so I can drive safely. In order not to crash because there were semi trucks around, I had to whip the steering wheel along with the weight of the car on the snow in order not to crash due to the car being big & it was sliding pretty heavy & somehow a couple things went out of wack after turning my steering wheel. Definitely a scary experience. It is very hard to turn out of no where, as well it’s rare at times when it turns just a little smoothly. Also, once when first pulling off, it makes a consecutive clicking noise coming from or by the tires. When I give it acceleration while turning, as well, it makes that clicking sound. Then there’s just something about the engine or the drive train that sounds off. I’m still learning as I go about fixing what needs to be done.

I RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING THE RECALL A WEEK OR SO BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND IT JUST STATED 'IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL'. I START MAKING PHONE CALLS TO DEALERS AND EVEN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE PROVIDED PHONE NUMBER AT HUNTINGTON BEACH DODGE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. WHEN I SHOWED UP TO MY APPOINTMENT, THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS RUDE AND ENDED UP TELLING ME THAT HE JUST PUT HIS LAST PARTS ON ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT. I SHOWED UP FOR NOTHING. SO I CALL AROUND SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2017 TO FIND A DEALER WITH THE PARTS. NOBODY HAD THEM AND NOT ONE DEALERSHIP SEEMED TO BE IN A HURRY TO REMEDY THE RECALL, TELLING ME 'IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL'. WELL IT IS ACTUALLY, BECAUSE WHEN I LOOK AT THE CARFAX REPORT ON THIS VEHICLE, THE FIRST 7 MONTHS SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW IT WAS IN OKLAHOMA USED AS A RENTAL CAR FOR 17,000 MILES UNTIL IT WAS SOLD. IT WAS ALSO IN OKLAHOMA DURING THE WINTER MONTHS WHERE IT'S RAINING AND SNOWING, FALLING PERFECTLY IN LINE WITH THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE TO THIS DAY HAS YET TO BE INSPECTED FOR NUMEROUS REASONS INCLUDING ALL CONTACTED DEALERSHIPS MISSING THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPLACEMENT AND LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF LOCAL DEALERSHIPS TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE. LOW AND BEHOLD, A WEEK AFTER RECEIVING THAT RECALL NOTICE, I ENDED UP IN A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN IN TIME AND HAD TO TAKE A POINT ON MY DRIVING RECORD AND POTENTIALLY HAVE MY PREMIUMS RAISED. NOT A SINGLE DEALERSHIP HAS PARTS FOR BOTH OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE (T59- BRAKE BOOSTER WATER SHIELD AND T-36 - ALTERNATOR AT EXCEPTIONAL RISK OF CATCHING FIRE.) MOPAR HAS NO IDEA WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE EITHER. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA POLICY FOR AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS WHO ISSUE RECALLS, THEY MUST DO SO IN A TIMELY MANNER. FOR T59, THE WATER SHIELD AFFECTING BRAKING ABILITY BEING ISSUES IN NOVEMBER OF 2017, COMING INTO JANUARY OF 2018 STILL WITH NO PARTS IS ABSURD EVEN MORE ABSURD THAN THAT IS THE T36 RECALL OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODELS, STATING THAT THE ALTERNATOR CAN POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE WHICH COULD ALSO LEAD TO A VERY DEVASTATING SITUATION. THAT RECALL WAS ISSUED IN JUNE OF 2017 AND IT IS JANUARY OF 2018 AND THOSE REPLACEMENT ALTERNATORS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. MY CAR HAS BECOME A TICKING TIME BOMB JUST WAITING TO GO OFF AND I DO NOT FEEL LIKE DODGE IS TAKING THESE RECALLS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. I DO FEEL LIKE THE BRAKING ISSUE RECALL HAS CONTRIBUTED TO MY ACCIDENT IN NOVEMBER, CREATING A POINT ON MY DRIVING RECORD, AND NOW A DMV HEARING FOR DRIVING COMPETENCY. THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED SEVERELY, WHICH COMPROMISES MY SAFETY, MY PASSENGERS SAFETY, AND ALL OF THE OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. DODGE/MOPAR SEEMS TO NOT CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND KEEP REFERRING ME TO THE DEALERSHIPS. IVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IN SINCE NOVEMBER BEFORE MY ACCIDENT TO HAVE THE WATER SHIELD EVALUATED AND BRAKES AS WELL FOR DAMAGE. AND GIVEN THE HISTORY OF RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE ALONE, THE OTHER 2 RECALLS FOR VANITY MIRROR WIRING POTENTIALLY CATCHING FIRE AND ALSO FUEL PUMP FAILURE, MY DODGE MET THE CRITERIA FOR BOTH.

TRAFFIC SLOWING DOWN IN FRONT OF ME, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT SLOWLY TO FLOOR AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, REAPPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID WORK CAUSING ME TO HIT THAT CAR AGAIN. THOUGHT THAT MAYBE MY FOOT WAS DEPRESSING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE SO II USED MY LEFT FOOT, RESULT THE SAME. I DID THIS MANY MORE TIMES AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE AND PULLED OFF TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN I WAS SURE IT WAS SAFE. THIS HAPPENED IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, I MANAGED TO AVOID HITTING ANY OF THE WORKERS AND THE 3 TRUCKS THAT THEY WERE USING. ONE OF THE WORKERS ASKED WHAT HAPPENED, I EXPLAINED TO HIM AND HE TRIED THE BRAKES, THEY WENT WERE SPONGY AND WENT SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR. CHECKED TO SEE IF THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF SHE HAD ANY INJURIES, SHE SAID SHE WAS ALRIGHT. THE IMPACT WAS NOT HARD BECAUSE WE WERE BOTH GOING THE SPEED. CALLED THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE (REFER TO INCEDENT # 31-10985-16 AND CRASH REPORT S/N 228890) NO TICKET ISSUED. CALLED FOR WRECKER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER WAS GARBER, 5330 BAY ROAD, SAGINAW MICHIGAN 48604, PHONE # 989-399-8550, SERVICE ADVISOR LARRY COOK. THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, THEY CONTACTED CHRYSLER ENGINEERING. LEFT VEHICLE OVE NIGHT, CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. BRAKES WORKED FINE, BROUGHT VEHICLE HOME AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AGAIN.

MY ALTERNATOR SHORTED OUT AT 78K MILES, THE 160AMP ALTERNATOR HAS A RECALL P60, HOWEVER THE 180AMP THAT I HAVE IS NOT COVERED. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN IT FRAYED THE DRIVE BELT FILLING CABIN WITH SMOKE, THEN LOST POWER STEERING AS LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN INTO PARKING LOT. AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF FOR A WHILE, I TRIED TO START IT AND IT WOULD START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND MY PUMPING THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT AT A IDLE UNTIL THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON THAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RUNNING. I AVOIDED THE TOW FINE BUT DROVE MY CAR TO THE AUTOZONE 1/2 MILE UP THE ROAD (SAME SIDE OF THE ROAD...TOO SCARED TO CROSS INTERSECTIONS). I WAS THE EXTREMELY PROUD OWNER OF A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. BY FAR THE BEST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. ON JANUARY 11, 2014 WHILE ON OUR WAY HOME WITH OUR (2) CHILDREN, WE WERE HEADING DOWN A MOUNTAIN COMING INTO A TURN. IT WAS FOGGY THAT NIGHT AND UNSURE IF THERE WAS ICE ON THE ROAD I WAS DRIVING A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 20 MILES AN HOUR. I DRIVE THIS ROAD EVERY DAY, AS I HAVE FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS. WHEN I STARTED TO APPLY MY BRAKES, THEY LOCKED UP/GRABBED AT WHICH POINT WE STARTED TO GAIN SPEED AND WENT DIRECTLY INTO A GUARD RAIL ULTIMATELY TOTALING MY VEHICLE. I THANK ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THIS WORLD THAT NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED, BUT EXTREMELY TERRIFIED AND THANKFUL THAT WE WERE NOT GOING ANY FASTER. THIS WAS THE WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE AS WE STOOD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT A LONG THE ROAD WAITING FOR HELP. THE PSP DID NOT SHOW UP FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND ONCE THE TOW TRUCK GOT THERE WE HAD TO WAIT EVEN LONGER. I HAVE TO ASK MYSELF IF KNOWING ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF BRAKE CORROSION MAY HAVE PREVENTED THIS ACCIDENT. DODGE DURANGO 2011 CREW-TRACTION DEFECT. GOT THE CAR 12/23/11. ON 1/12/12, DURING SNOW STORM. I LEFT WORK, CAR WOULD NOT STAY ON THE ROAD, SLID SIDEWAYS AS I TURNED. I WAS ON THE PHONE W/CO-WORKER WHO WAS BEHIND ME. I ASKED IF HE SAW MY CAR SLIDE, HE SAID YES, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP ON THE ROAD SO TOLD HIM I HAD TO GO.I DROVE TO PEORIA. I WAS GOING VERY SLOW. WENT TO SWIM MEET, THEN HEADED HOME DOWN KNOXVILLE AVE. MAYBE10 MPH, VERY CAUTIOUS, EVERYONE WAS PASSING ME. SIGNAL TURNED YELLOW, THEN RED, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP. ANTI-LOCK BREAKS WERE ON, CAR CONTINUED TO SLIDE. I SAW A TRUCK COMING A LONG WAY DOWN, I SLID INTO CROSS TRAFFIC, AND HIT THAT TRUCK. (I HAD PAIN IN MY SHOULDER, THE PAIN CONTINUED, & ON 3/30/12, HAD EMERGENCY SURGERY 4 RUPTURED CERVICAL SPINE. I NOW HAVE A PLATE,& 4 SCREWS IN MY NECK.)GOT THE CAR BACK, & TOOK IT TO TIRE SHOP TO PUT BETTER TIRES ON IT. WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG W/TIRES, & THEY WERE BETTER TIRES THAN THEY COULD SELL ME. THIS YEAR IN LESS THEN 1 INCH OF SNOW, THE CAR DID A 180 SLIDE ON MY DRIVE, THEN SLID INTO TRAFFIC (LEVEL SURFACE), A CAR MISSED ME BY INCHES. SLIDE EVEN IN A QUARTER INCH SNOW. DOESN'T MATTER WHO IS DRIVING IT, THEY SLIDE. I AGAIN WENT 2 A DIFFERENT TIRE PLACE. THEY WANTED TO SELL ME THE SAME TIRES, I SAID NO WAY! THEY OFFERED ALTERNATIVES. I DECIDED TO GOOGLE WHAT KIND OF TIRES WOULD BE GOOD FOR MY CAR. MUCH TO MY DISMAY, APPARENTLY NONE ARE. WHAT I FOUND, WAS THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL '11 DURANGO OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TIRES ON THEIR CARS. SAME PROBLEMS, DIFFERENT TIRES & DIFFERENT TIRE MANUFACTURERS. THEIR CARS WILL NOT STAY ON THE ROAD WITH SNOW OR ICE EITHER. IT IS NOT THE TIRES, ITS A THE CAR! PLEASE STOP THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I WILL LIVE THE REST OF MY LIKE WITH TERRIBLE COMPLICATIONS FROM THE SURGERY. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR, & GOING TO HAVE TO TRADE IT, & TAKE A HUGE LOSS. *TR

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while exiting her residential driveway, driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated that several warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she heard a noise that came from the engine compartment. The contact stopped the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle to perform an inspection under the hood. The contact stated that when the hood was raised, the contact noticed smoke and fire. The contact immediately closed the hood and the fire burned out. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed alternator. The contact was advised that due to the failure and the fire, the PCM, the valve cover gaskets, the battery, and the alternator needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact was informed that due to the fire, the labels for the alternator were not visible. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall that had a similar failure description, however, the contact's VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's wife detected an abnormally strong smoke odor inside the vehicle. The windshield wipers were inadvertently activated, and the instrument panel flickered. The battery warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact, his wife, and his mother-in-law were able to exit the vehicle safely. No injuries were sustained. The contact checked under the hood and saw flames coming from the alternator; however, the flames extinguished themselves before the firefighters arrived on the scene. A fire department report was filed. The vehicle was first towed to the contact's mother-in-law's residence, then to the dealer, where it was determined that the alternator had malfunctioned due to the age of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

The alternator suddenly failed with no warning lights or lamps indicating a problem. I was driving when the car suddenly stalled and I managed to get home . Heavy smoke was coming from under the hood and when I raised the hood heavy smoke was coming up out of the alternator and I could smell burning wires. I had it towed to Elder Dodge and they confirmed that the alternator was burnt out and it fried the PCM and other electrical components. The safety issue was it could've caught the whole engine on fire and it could have caused a wreck with traffic behind us. I contacted the FCA and sent all information that they requested for reimbursement but they refuse to reimburse me for a faulty alternator that short circuited and caught on fire. I am contacting you for help with this matter so they will reimburse me for damages done to my Durango.
