Hard, front collision with deer, spun several times before rolling over a couple times down a small hill. Side air bags deployed but front did not deploy resulting in severer and additional driver injuries including but not limited to chest contusions, spleen hematoma and concussion. He was hospitalized and has a long road ahead. Car was totaled and towed. Insurance company has it now. They and responders are aware front air bags did not deploy. Consumer stated husband had severe injuries.

ON NOV 28 2020 I WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN MY 2012 DODGE DURANGO. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH ON A DRY 2 WAY ROAD, WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I WAS UNABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE ACCIDENT WAS BAD ENOUGH TO FLIP THE OTHER VEHICLE AND CAUSE THEIR AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY BUT THE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS CAUSED ME AND MY PASSENGER TO HAVE NO PROTECTION, OTHER THAN THE SAFETY RESTRAINTS. BOTH HAVE SUFFERED HEAD, NECK AND BACK INJURIES. IN THIS ACCIDENT DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FRONT END DAMAGE, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. ON OCT 7, 2014, MY BROTHER WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK. IT WAS RAINING THAT EVENING AND A DEER JUMPED OUT INFRONT OF HIM. NATURAL REACTION, HE SWERVED TO MISS THE DEER. THE VEHICLE SLID ON THE WET ROADS WHEN HE SWERVED, CAUSING HIM TO GO HEAD ON INTO A STONE "MOUNTAINSIDE" WALL. HE WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH UPON IMPACT. NOT ONE OF THE 9 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE ACCIDENT WAS SO BAD, IT CAUSED THE FLOORBOARD WHERE THE GAS AND BRAKE ARE TO "BUCKLE", THE AXLE WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OUT, AND THE DRIVERS WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF, YET NOT ONE OF THE 9 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY BROTHER ENDED UP WITH CUTS ON HIS HEAD AND FACE, HE HAD A SEVERE CONCUSSION AND THERE IS A "LUMP" ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK THAT THE HOSPITAL ISN'T SURE IF IT IS A BONE THAT IS "OUT OF PLACE" OR JUST A LUMP THAT FORMED FROM BEING HIT. HE IS NOT PERMITTED TO WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS. HE WAS SLURRING WORDS AND NOT PROPERLY TALKING FOR 4 DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE HOSPITAL SAID IT WAS FROM HOW HARD HE HIT HIS HEAD. EVERYONE WHO HAS SEEN THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING INSURANCE ADJUSTOR SAID IT IS A WONDER HE WASN'T KILLED, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. YET, A FRIEND OF OURS ACCIDENTALLY "TAPPED" A GUARDPOST WHILE PARKING AND ALL HIS AIRBAGS IN HIS DURANGO DEPLOYED. I GUESS YOU HAVE TO BE GOING SLOW FOR DURANGO AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY?? OUR 2012 DODGE DURANGO R/T WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW AS A REPLACEMENT FOR LEMON LAW BUY BACK OF OUR 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE DURANGO IS PLAGUED WITH DESIGN FLAWS. THE MOST OBVIOUS IS THE TIPM TOTAL INTEGRATED MODULE. THE FAILURE OF THIS MODULE RESULTING IN OUR VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE. THE VEHICLE CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START AT TIMES, OTHER TIMES WHEN IT STARTS IT DIES IN THE STREET. WHILE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT AND ANOTHER DEALER DENIED THE REPAIRS. THE ONLY LOANER I WAS PLACED IN WAS A BRAND NEW DURANGO WITH THE PLASTIC STILL COVERING THE SEATS, FLOOR ETC. THE BRAND NEW LOANER ALSO CONTAINED A FAULTY TIPM. WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE LOANER A DAY BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WERE BRIGHT LIGHTING EVERYONE, ALARM WAS GOING OFF DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, RADIO WAS CRACKLING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS FLASHING. OUR DURANGO CONTAINS ALL OF THESE ISSUES; LEFT AND RIGHT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES ARE DEAD, BOTH FRONT STRUTS ARE BLOWN LEAKING, SPRAYING FLUID UNDER THE VEHICLE ONTO THE FRAME AND BRAKE(S), LINE(S), TRANSMISSIONS IS LEAKING, HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. OUR DURANGO IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, PLUS A PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHILE OUR VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR BECAUSE THE TIPM IS NATIONAL BACKORDERED PART. PLEASE.... Lifter and limp mode problems. There is noise comming from engine. Took to shop and found out reason for noise and low power was lifters and is a very common problem. What brought the safety thing up is wife was in accident in March because couldn't get out of way quick enough. Had vehicle towed to shop from accident site and body repair. Thought was just a fluke and had damage repaired and noticed a ticking and power problems immediately after accident repair. Took to dodge dealer and found out common problem with the lifters cam and limp mode. Had at same repair shop for other recall 2 months prior for recall and inspection with no noise or issues.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE TUTTLE CLICK TOFTIN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALER, BUT IT WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIRS BEING AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO PROVIDE A SECOND REPAIR; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT VERIFIED IF THE REPAIR WOULD BE FREE OF CHARGE. OCTOBER 15, 2014 I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 DODGE DURANGO CREW TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING MY ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING ME TO DRIFT INTO A CONCRETE RETAINING WALL. MY CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE BODY SHOP AND WAS INSPECTED BY MY GEICO INSURANCE. THE DAMAGE TOTALED $5500, $500 OF WHICH WAS MY DEDUCTIBLE. UNFORTUNATELY, A PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE BODY WAS UNAVAILABLE, SO I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR AN ESTIMATED 3 MONTHS UNTIL THE PART WAS AVAILABLE FROM DODGE. I WAS CLEARLY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE I KNEW IT MALFUNCTIONED. I TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY FROM THE BODY SHOP TO MY LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE NOTE ***GEICO INSURANCE DEEMED THE CAR "SAFE TO DRIVE" AND REFUSED TO GIVE ME A RENTAL. I TOOK THE DURANGO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 24 HOURS AND DISMISSED ME TELLING ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. NEITHER MY HUSBAND NOR I WERE SATISFIED BECAUSE IN MY 17 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND KNEW SOMETHING WAS DEFECTIVE. SINCE THEN, I HAVE STARTED THE CAR A HANDFUL OF TIMES, AND IT WILL IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. I JUST RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL NUMBER R09/NHTSA 14V-115. THIS SAFETY RECALL RELATES EXACTLY TO WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DURANGO. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN THAT I DRIVE WITH IN THIS CAR, REFUSE TO GET ON ANY HIGHWAY WITH IT FOR FEAR OF IT SHUTTING DOWN AT 70 MPH, AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. I HAVE PROOF OF THE $5500 IN REPAIRS, I HAVE PROOF OF THE $500 I SPENT ON MY DEDUCTIBLE, I HAVE PROOF THAT I TOOK IT TOOK A DODGE DEALERSHIP, AND I HAVE PROOF THAT MY CAR INSURANCE RATE HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED BECAUSE OF THIS CLAIM. I'M STUCK WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, NO ONE ACCEPTING BLAME, INCREASED INSURANCE RATE, $500 LESS IN MY BANK ACCOUNT, AND A CAR THAT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE I CAN'T RE-SELL. The contact owned a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact opened the door and noticed that the interior of the vehicle was completely burned. The vehicle was unoccupied. The contact stated the exterior of the vehicle had no signs of fire. The vehicle was towed to the local tow yard. The vehicle was condemned as a total loss. In addition, the contact stated that prior to the failure, there was an unknown warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V879000 (Electrical System, Interior Lighting), which had a similar failure description; however the VIN was not associated with the recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 186,488.

While driving our 2012 Dodge Durango in town, we noticed the battery warning light come on and a hot smell coming from the vehicle. We were not far from home so we limped it back home to the garage to see what was going on. When we lifted the hood, there was a very overwhelming burning smell, our alternator was literally glowing red hot, and there was smoke pouring out from around it. We quickly put out the fire and disconnected the battery. Afterwards, we had it towed to a repair shop where it was confirmed the alternator failed as well as fried our PCM in the process. We paid for the install of a new alternator and PCM, however, the radio remained failed. Upon researching this scenario, we found there was a recall for this exact issue for the exact span of years and engine type, however, our VIN was somehow not included in this recall. That needs to be changed. The alternator issue could have been extremely dangerous for our family while in the car, as well as others around us due to what could have happened if the card didn’t make it home. We could have been stranded on a busy road way causing accidents while the car was engulfed in flames due to the alternator. Also, had we not immediately popped the hood at home to check the engine, the car could have burned down our home. We request that the NHTSA and FCA recall company address this issue and the potential for extending the recall to include other Durango VINs.

While driving at various speeds, upon slowing down the vehicle stalled. This occurred 50+ times. This occurred while my family was in the vehicle on many occasions. Vehicle was serviced for fuel pump recall, however the stalling continued. My mechanic pointed out the ticking noise, referring to the manifold needing repair. Most recently, the car barely wanted to turn over. Struggling for almost 3 days, thankfully I just pulled into my driveway and turn the car off. Then something told me to try to start the vehicle…well that made something smoke in the motor? Repaired the alternator, battery, and starter. Two days later, check oil light comes on, Back to shop to tell me the cam shaft/lifers need to be replaced!!! Quoted $35-4000 if can find a cam shaft repair kit!!!
