PE00 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM TIRE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND IT FLIPPED OVER. THERE WERE SIX PASSENGERS INSIDE OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED . THEY WERE ON THE ROAD ABOUT TWO HOURS BEFORE ACCIDENT STARTED, IT WAS A HOT CLASSIC HOT DAY. FORD EXPLORER WAS INVOLVED IN A SOLO COLLISION, WHERE THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SUSTAINED A LOSS OF IT'S TREAD, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND STATE ROUTE 99, CA. MY WIFE [XXX] WAS DRIVING MY 1991 FORD EXPLORER TO SEE HER SON ON 2-2-04( AND NEVER USES CRUISE CONTROL)WHEN ON HWY 161 HEADING NORTH THE CRUISE CONTROL TOOK OVER AND MADE THE THROTTLE STICK WIDE OPEN, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT HOLD AND VEHICLE WENT UP TO ABOUT 70 BEFORE SHE FINALLY TURNED OFF KEY, THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING FROM ABOUT 1 MILE OF FIGHTING TO STOP THE THING, SHE FINALLY STOPPED AFTER HITTING A TRUCK IN FRONT OF BLACKSTONE COLLISION, WHOSE OWNER DEMANDED SHE REMOVE IT DUE TO BLOCKING DRIVEWAY, (2) SALESMEN FROM JET CHEV SAW THE WHOLE THING AND SINCE THE OTHER DRIVERS VEHICLE WAS NOT BADLY DAMAGED HE WANTED TO LEAVE, THE SALESMAN STARTED THE FORD EXPLORER AND IT WAS STILL FLOORED HE WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT AND PARKED IT, HE ALSO UNSTUCK THE THROTTLE THEREBY DESTROYING EVIDENCE,MY INSURANCE CO. WAS GOING TO GO AFTER FORD BUT DIDN'T , SO WE WERE CANCELLED AND NOW I PAY TWICE AS MUCH DUE TO FORD DEFECTS THEY NEED TO OWN UP TO THIS. VEH ID [XXX] MY WIFE HAD TO GO TO HOSPITAL FOR 2 CRACKED ANKLES DUE TO THIS AS X RAYS WERE TAKEN WITHIN 4 HRS OF WRECK (SHE HAD BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL TRYING TO STOP IT.) I HAD THE ATX RADIAL TIRES AND THEY WERE REPLACE WITH THE FIREHAWKS BY FIRESTONE. ON 10/18/2000,THE FIREHAWKS SEAL AROUND THE OUTSIDE RIM DETACHED ITSELF FROM THE OUTSIDE RIM AND I LOST CONTROL OF MY FORD EPLORER. SENDING ME CRASHING INTO THE REAR END OF A CAR AND THEN INTO A CONCERET RAIL. ON INTERSTATE 94 EASTBOUND DOWNTOWN CHICAGO. BEAR IN MIND THESE ARE THE REPLACMENTS FOR THE RECALL FIRESTONE TIRES ATX. I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED ON 9/15/2000. NOT EVEN A GOOD MONTH,JUST A FEW DAYS OVER A MONTH. NOW MY EXPLORER IS BASICLY TOTAL AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO,AS FAR AS REPLACEMENT AND ALL MY DOCTOR BILL. ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1997, I WAS RETURNING HOME (DALLAS, TX) FROM A CAMPING TRIP IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO IN MY 1991 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON I-10 NEAR BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ, THE TREAD ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SEPARATED, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT, AND THERE WERE NO "UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES". NO CITATIONS WERE ISSUED FOR ANY FAULT ON THE DRIVER'S PART. THE DRIVER WAS THROWN FREE OF THE VEHICLE. I REMAINED PARTIALLY IN THE VEHICLE AND PARTIALLY PINNED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUFFERED A FRACTURED PELVIS. MY INJURIES WERE EXTENSIVE; THE MOST SERIOUS AND DEBILITATING WAS A CLOSED HEAD INJURY. PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR ADDITIONAL DETAIL. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INVESTIGATION AND ANY ACTION THAT IS TAKEN TO RECTIFY THIS LONG STANDING PRODUCT DEFECT. MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 5 P.M. ON 4/28/2000. I CONTINUED WITH MY DAILY ACTIVITIES AND MADE A MENTAL NOTE TO GET THIS CHECKED OUT. AT APPROX. 6P.M. I WAS TRAVELING AT AROUND 45 MPH WHEN A CAR CUT IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT THE BRAKES, THE REAR TIRES LOCKED UP, AND THE VEHICLE WENT IMMEDIATELY INTO A 90+ DEGREE SLIDE, THE VEHICLE ROLLED 1 FULL TIME AND LANDED UPRIGHT FACING THE LANE I WAS JUST IN. I'VE DRIVEN 3 CARS WITHOUT ABS AND I'VE NEVER HAD THE REAR TIRES LOCK UP SO EASILY. *AK

WHILE DRIVING VHEICLE OWNER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, IMACT SPEED WAS AT 35 MPH, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BROKE, CAUSING OWNER TO HAVE MULTIPLE INJURIES. CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *AK
IN REFERENCE TO PE92-084, THE VEHICLE WAS REARENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE GOING ABOUT 20-25MPH WHICH CAUSED THE DEFECTIVE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK TO COLLAPSE BACKWARDS, RESULTING INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANT. *AK
DRIVER'S SEATBACK COMPLETELY COLLAPSED WHEN VEHICLE WAS REARENDED BY ANOTHER CAR TRAVELING 25 MPH; SEATBACK WOULD NOT RETURN TO UPRIGHT POSITION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE JERKED TO THE RIGHT AND VEHICLE WENT DOWN THE ROAD SIDEWAYS, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE TRUCK HAS ABS. THE TRUCK THEN FLIPPED OVER AND SKIDDED 150 FT.*AK

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING START TO ACCELERATE AND TRY TO STOP THE ABS ANTI-LOCK BRAKE COULD NOT STOP THE CAR HIT A WALL AND BROKE MY BACK. TT
