THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU SEDAN. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE CRASHED INTO A DIRT MOUND AND BLACKED OUT. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DETACHED. THERE WAS SMOKE AND SOME FLAMES PRESENT AROUND THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS, SMELLED SMOKE AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING THE GEAR INTO PARK. THE SEAT BELT ALSO BROKE, THREW THE CONTACT INTO THE REAR SEAT AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER INTO A FIELD AND WAS DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, WHIPLASH AND THE PASSENGER HAD MINOR INJURIES. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED NORMALLY. PICTURES AND A POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ATTEMPTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FIRE AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 100,000. RK UPDATED 5/5/08 *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 23 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. TWO DAYS LATER, THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED OR TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
The Grumman LLV was hit by the driver of the Chevy Malibu. The Grumman LLV had seatbelt issues with impact. The LLV was forced over on two wheels with left side impact from the driver of Chevy Malibu. [XXX] was the driver of the USPS Grumman LLV at the time of accident sustaining neck injuries requiring medical attention. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED NOT ALLOWING THE CONTACT TO HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE RAN INTO A SIDE BEARING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SOME BACK SORENESS. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO START BACK UP AND THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND WAS REAR-ENDED BY A CAR GOING 15-20 MPH (THE AT-FAULT DRIVER WAS DISTRACTED BY THEIR PHONE). I WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND HAD A BUMP OVER MY LEFT EYE FROM HITTING SOMETHING. I HAD A CONCUSSION. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICY REPORT WAS FILED. I STILL SUFFER MID AND LOWER BACK PAIN (DISC BULGES AND FISSURES). AFTER THE WRECK, I STARTED TO GET A WARNING ABOUT NEEDING TO SERVICE THE AIRBAGS.
THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AND CAME TO A CURVE IN THE ROAD AT WHICH TIME SHE REPORTED THAT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT SLOW OR STOP THE CAR AND THE CAR BEGAN TO VEER IN AN UNINTENDED (AND UNSTEERED) DIRECTION. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE CAR'S PATH AND SPEED AND IT WENT OUT OF CONTROL STRIKING FOUR CARS, CROSSING A DIVIDER AND IMPACTING HEAD ON WITH A 4 X 4 TRUCK. HER DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING, WHEN THE VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JB

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TREE STUMP AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CHEST INJURY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. POWER STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING THRU A CURVE CAUSING A ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN ONE RIDER INJURY. WE MADE A CLAIM WITH GM AND THEY DENIED IT STATING THAT THE DATA FROM THE BLACK BOX SHOWED THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONS. THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE DATA SHOWED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LOCK WAS TOLD TO DEPLOY AND IT DID NOT. TO ME AND EVERYBODY ELSE, THAT IS AN EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION. GM TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE DRIVER WAS NOT HURT THAT THEY DENIED THIS ONE ALSO. THE BACK SEAT RIDER WAS INJURED WHEN THE REAR DOOR GLASS SHATTERED SENDING GLASS INTO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD. THIS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION TO REMOVE ALL OF THE GLASS FRAGMENTS. *TR

DRIVING TO WORK AT 0615 - TEMP WAS 41 DEGREES. TYPICAL WINTER MORNING. I WAS TRAVELING 45 MPH DUE TO THE TIME OF YEAR ON A ROAD I HAVE DRIVEN FOR 27 YEARS. MY CAR HAD 4 STUDDED SNOW TIRES ON IT FOR THE WINTER DRIVING. GOING UP A HILL AND AROUND A CURVE I LOST CONTROL AND STEERING SEEMED TO BE "GONE" I COULD NOT GAIN CONTROL AT ALL. MY CAR SPUN AROUND WENT OVER AN EMBANKMENT - FLIPPED OVER AND ROLLED LANDING ON IT'S TOP. THE DOORS WERE DUG INTO THE GROUND SO ESCAPE ON MY OWN WAS IMPOSSIBLE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. WE ASSUMED IT WAS JUST A FLUKE AND THAT I MUST HAVE HIT BLACK ICE - WHICH I HAVE DONE BEFORE. NEVER HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AGAIN THOUGH. THIS CAR HAD PROBLEMS WITH STEERING AND "STOPPING" BEFORE. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP MORE THAN A COUPLE OF TIMES TO BE CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALLS, I CALLED TO NOTIFY GM THAT I HAD CRASHED MY CAR - IN CASE THEY NEEDED THE INFORMATION AND THEY ASKED ME IF I STILL HAD THE CAR. I TOLD THEM "NO" IT HAD BEEN TOTALED. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT MY INFORMATION DIDN'T MATTER SINCE I NO LONGER HAD THE CAR! *TR
I WAS LIVING IN PENNSYLVANIA AT THE TIME AND AS I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30 MPH WHILE COMING AROUND A CURVE THE STEERING WENT OUT THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD STEER THE CAR AND I HIT 2 CARS AND BOUNCED OFF OF THEM INTO A HIGH CURB MY RIBS WERE BROKEN AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE PAIN IN MY HIP. RIGHT BEFORE THE ACCIDENT THERE WAS AN ALERT TONE I THOUGHT I WAS LOW ON GAS WHEN I LOOKED AT MY RADIO (THIS IS WHERE IT TELLS YOU THINGS) IT SAID NO POWER STEERING WHEN I LOOKED AT MY DASH PANEL THERE WAS A WRENCH IN A CAR I WAS TRYING TO CORRECT MY DIRECTION BUT THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD STEER THE CAR AT ALL WHEN THE CRASH HAPPENED I WAS HOSPITALIZED I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT SEVERAL ATTORNEYS BUT AFTER ALL THIS HAPPENED I HAD TO SELL MY HOME AND MOVE BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO WORK. WITH THE LOSS OF THE CAR I WAS UNABLE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR FOLLOW UPS AS MY DOCTOR WANTED. MY NEPHEW TOLD ME TO WRITE TO YOU MY VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TIE ROD END NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER NECK, HEAD AND BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BUT IT WAS UNKNOWN IF IT WAS DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 315,000.
I WAS AT A STOP SIGN, HEADED STRAIGHT, ON A ROAD THAT IS A HILL, AND I WAS HEADED DOWN HILL. THE STEERING WHEEL DIDNT SEEM TO BE TO BE RESPONDING PROPERLY, SO I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE FORWARD SLOWLY AND TRIED TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND DRIFTED DOWN THE HILL AND INTO A TREE. THE WHOLE FRONT END , HOOD AND BOTH FENDERS ARE DAMAGED. I AM SURE WE HAD PAOWER STEERING RECALL WORK DONE, THIS IS AWFUL. THE CAR WAS NOT WORTH A WHOLE LOT BUT IT WAS IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION. WE DIDNT HAVE COLLISION COVERAGE SO NOW I HAVE A REAL TOTAL LOSS.
