The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V764000 (Suspension). The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the rear wheels were wiggling and the vehicle went side to side before the contact lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a ditch. The contact sustained injuries to his neck, right shoulder, and back. The passenger did not sustain injuries. The contact's son transported him to the hospital where medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V764000 (Suspension). The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS JUMPSTARTED BY THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE AND DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO RETAIL STORE AND AN UNKNOWN CHEVROLET DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW BATTERY WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY; HOWEVER, A WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED A BUS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISING AND SORENESS TO THE ARMS, NECK, WRIST, SHOULDER, AND BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AFTERWARDS, A MESSAGE DISPLAYED INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER AND IT WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE WHEN IT WAS JUMPSTARTED. AS SOON AS THE JUMPER CABLES WERE REMOVED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO CHEVROLET OF HOMEWOOD (18033 HALSTED ST, HOMEWOOD, IL 60430, (708) 251-4692). THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS TURNING FROM A PRIVATE DRIVE AND COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. I WAS IN A 2013 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 15MPH, THE OTHER DRIVER IN A 2010 HONDA ACCORD TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 45-55MPH. THE COLLISION WAS BETWEEN MY FRONT LEFT AND HIS FRONT RIGHT, NO PASSENGERS. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FROM EITHER VEHICLE, AND AS MINE DID NOT DEPLOY, I RECEIVED A CONCUSSION WHEN THE BACK OF MY HEAD BROKE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS PART OF TAKATA, AS I CANNOT FIND THE MANUFACTURER OF MY CAR'S AIRBAGS. CHEVROLET PROVIDED NO INFORMATION AS TO THE MANUFACTURER OR WHY AT LEAST THE CURTAIN AIRBAG WOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED TO PREVENT CONCUSSION.

WHILE DRIVING I NOTICE THE CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ACTING UP IT WOULD SAY I NEEDED TO PUT AIR IN THE TIRE OR THE BACK TIRE WAS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. IT ALSO WOULD SAY I NEEDED TO PUT MY SEAT BELT ON WHEN IT WAS ON. BUT THIS WAS NOT MY BIGGEST CONCERN MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING RAN OFF THE ROAD A STRUCK A TREE HEAD ON. HAD SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING FASTER THEN WHAT SHE WAS GOING I FELL AS IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. THE AIRBAGS NEVER CAME OUT AND THIS WAS A CONCERN BECAUSE WHO KNOWS HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED BY THIS. I THANK GOD THAT HER INJURIES WERE NOT THAT SERVE AS WELL AS MY COUSIN AND I, ALTHOUGH PAIN WILL HEAL THE PAIN OF LOSING A LOVE ONE WILL NEVER HEAL. MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW 02/2014 WAS LEFT RUNNING AND PLACED INTO PARK ON LEVEL ASPHALT STREET. WHEN I WALKED ABOUT SIX OR SEVEN FEET FROM THE VEHICLE MY VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING FORWARD. I CHASED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO GET INSIDE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR BUT WAS DRAGGED SEVERAL FEET. I COULD SEE CLEARLY THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WENT IN TO A SMALL RAVINE AND FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE ENGINE STOP/START BUTTON AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. I EASILY BACKED THE VEHICLE OUT AFTER STARTING IT. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND SOME NICE PEOPLE I DID NOT KNOW TENDED TO MY INJURIES. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS LATER THAT NIGHT AND WAS GIVEN A SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER OF 71-1320790919. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SUNRISE CHEVY ON 06/22. ON 07/21 I WAS NOTIFIED NOTHING COULD BE FOUND WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I WAS GIVEN NO PAPERWORK FROM GENERAL MOTORS OR THE DEALER. THERE WAS 1100.00 DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE . GENERAL MOTORS REFUSED TO PAY FOR SAID DAMAGE. I WAS TOLD TO USE MY PARKING BRAKE. REALLY THAT IS RIDICULOUS WHEN U ARE ON LEVEL GROUND. MY LEFT FOOT AND LEG STILL SHOW THE SIGNS OF BEING DRAGGED. I WAS ALSO ASKED HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAPPENED. ISN'T ONCE ENOUGH. I SURELY DID NOT TRY TO DUPLICATE IT. WAITING AT A CORNER FOR A CLEAR SPOT TO CROSS FIVE LANE ROAD. WAS WATCHING A TRUCK WITH A SNOW PLOW WANTING TO TURN ONTO SAME ROAD THAT I NEEDED TO CROSS. LOOKED BOTH WAYS AND THEN BACK AT THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK DID NOT MOVE SO I PROCEEDED AND I ONLY MADE IT JUST BEYOND THE TURN LANE AND GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I TRIED AS FAST AS I COULD TO STAY IN THE TURN LANE BUT STILL GOT HIT. OTHER DRIVER DID NOT TRY TO AVOID US. WE WERE HIT HARD IN THE RIGHT FRONT OF OUR CAR. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROAD I WANTED TO CROSS IS 55 MPH SO WE WERE HIT PRETTY HARD. NOW THIS IS WHERE WE GET MAD. While driving my vehicle the rear toe link broke leaving me stranded on the side of the road. With no dealers close I replaced the passenger rear toe link to get the car mobile again. Once that was done I called the dealer to setup an appointment to do the recall repair. After dropping the car off at the dealer I received a call back stating that I would need to replace my OEM lug nuts at an inflated dealer price in order for them to do the repair. My issue is that these OEM lug nuts should also be included in the recall because I've done nothing to create an issue with the lug nuts. Swelling lug nuts is a major ongoing issue among the big 3 automakers and this should be corrected. Allowing the companies to sell cars with low quality lug nuts is insane. Dealers thinking that customers should pay for a flaw in their own design of the lug nuts before they will do any repairs is even more insane. How my car sits now I am refused recall service on my car that is unsafe to drive due to them releasing cars with unsafe lug nuts. Then to add a paywall to you getting your recall repairs. This is extremely unsafe and unethical, and I pray that the NHTSA will do something about this ongoing issue that is putting millions of Americans in danger and allowing these companies to take advantage of their customer base. I took action to bring this to your attention and I hope you will take preventive action to keep Americans safe on the roads.
