VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING 4 TIMES. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT WHICH RESULTED IN THE DRIVER SUSTAINING MULTIPLE BROKEN BONES IN THE FACE. THEN, DURING THE FIRST ROLL, THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED DUE TO A FAULTY SEAT BELT LATCH WHICH RESULTED IN VERY SERIOUS CRITICAL INJURIES INCLUDING A BROKEN BACK. IF THESE SAFETY FEATURES WOULD HAVE WORKED, THE DRIVER WOULD NOT BE IN THE SITUATION THAT SHE IS IN AND SUFFERING THROUGH LOTS OF PAIN AND LIFE CHANGING INJURIES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE UNLOADING GOODS FROM THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE PARKED VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY IN REVERSE AND DOWNHILL UNTIL CRASHING INTO ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE ALLOWED HER TO ERRONEOUSLY REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,700.

I HAD A SET OF BF GOODRICH MUD TERRAIN TIRES 33" ON A 06 WRANGLER. THE TIRES WERE ABOUT 5 YEARS OLD BUT HAD BARELY BEEN USED, APPROXIMATELY 80% OF THE TREAD WAS LEFT. I SWAPPED THESE TIRES FROM A 73 CJ5 THAT I JUST WASN'T USING THAT MUCH ANYMORE. AFTER AROUND 4000-5000 MILES AFTER THE SWITCH THE TIRE POPPED ON ME GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY DOING 75-80 MPH. THE VEHICLE SHOOK FOR 2-3 SECONDS THEN I HEARD A "POP", INSTANTLY THIS THREW MY VEHICLE WHERE IT FLIPPED AND ROLLED AND TOTALED THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO BE AIRLIFTED AWAY AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. INVESTIGATORS FROM JEEP AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY BOTH CONCLUDED THAT THIS WAS A PRODUCT DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. WHILE TAKING UP THE ISSUE WITH BF GOODRICH THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE TIRE IN TO BE INSPECTED. THE TIRE STORE STATED AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS OF LOOKING AT THE TIRE THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A ROAD HAZARD. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AT ALL DURING THIS 4 HOUR TRIP THAT I WAS JUST ON AND THE TIRE WAS INFLATED AT 35 PSI. BF GOODRICH DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE ACCIDENT OR MY INJURIES. THEY DID OFFER ME 30% OFF A NEW TIRE. TOO BAD I DON'T HAVE A VEHICLE TO PUT A TIRE ON ANYMORE. I CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIP FROM SAN DIEGO TO PHOENIX. I ALSO FILLED UP WITH GAS AND WALKED AROUND THE JEEP, TO WASH THE WINDOWS, AND DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES. THE ROAD THAT I WAS TRAVELING ON WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND FREE FROM OBJECTS. I DID NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING. I DO HAVE CUSTODY OF THE BAD TIRE STILL ON THE RIM AND PLENTY OF PICTURES OF THE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE AFTER THE ACCIDENT. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE TIRE FAILURE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. ONE PERSON SAID THAT THE TIRE LOOKED ALMOST LIKE IT WAS RE-TREADED. *KB

WE PARTICIPATE IN JEEP JAMBOREES AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE TRIED TO ADDRESS IT AFTER RECEIVING ADVICE FROM VARIOUS GUIDES AND MECHANICS AT THE JAMBOREES. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THEY WOULD INSPECT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND REPLACE ANY PARTS AND IF THERE WAS AN EXISTING RECALL THAT CHRYSLER WOULD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE PARTS; HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF A BRAKE RECALL. THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,700.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS IT APPROACHED A CURVE. A WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED, WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES; HOWEVER, THREE VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,596 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,273.

CAUSE ON FLUID DISCHARGE APPEARS TO BE AN OVER HEATING OR PRESSURIZATION OF TRANSMISSION CASE AS THERE ARE NO OTHER PORTS OF EXIT. TRAMS CASE IS INTACT AND AREAS AROUND TRANSMISSION ARE DRY FREE OF DEBRIS OR EVIDENCE OF LEAKAGE. FLUID LEVEL PRIOR TO EVENT WAS CORRECT AND NO POSSIBILITY OF OVER FILLING AS FLUID LEVEL WAS INSPECTED ON REGULAR BASIS. CONTACT DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY TRANSMISSION FLUIDS ARE CAPABLE OF CAUSING FIRE. DEALER STATED ALSO NO POSSIBLE WAY FLUID COULD BE COMING FROM BREATHER TUBE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED BEFORE AND WAS FIXED USING THE SAME FAULTY PARTS WHICH AT THAT TIME WAS UNDER WARRANTY. APPROXIMATELY 4000 MILES LATER THE SAME SPILLING OF GASOLINE OCCURRED BUT DEALERSHIP SAID THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1000 TO REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXTREME FIRE HAZARD AS WELL AS A POSSIBLY SEVERE INJURY TO MYSELF AS THE GASOLINE COULD FLY INTO MY EYES OR UNTO MY CLOTHES. I DEMAND A COMPLETE NEW FUEL TANK CONFIGURATION AND FUEL FILLER NECK PARTS. TWO EXACT PROBLEMS MEANS FAULTY EQUIPMENT PARTS AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED WITH UPDATED PARTS. I WAS FUELING THE VEHICLE AND THE AUTOMATIC FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE OR WHATEVER IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK MALFUNCTIONED. FUEL EJECTED FROM WITHIN THE FILL NECK AND WAS PROPELLED ONTO MY FACE AND IN MY EYES! I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH ANY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED OR FUELED. I WAS STANDING ADJACENT TO MY VEHICLE AS MOST DO WHEN GETTING GAS, I HEARD THE GAS GURGLE LIKE IT NORMALLY DOES, THE PUMP CLICKED OFF AND A SECOND LATER MY EYES WERE SLAMMED SHUT AND BURNING. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I HAVE COME TO FIND THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS ACTUALLY TAKEN STEPS TO CORRECT IT IN 2007 AND NEWER VEHICLES. I DON'T KNOW TO WHAT EXTENT THAT IS TRUE BUT THIS IS A HUGE HAZARD. THERE IS SOME PLASTIC VALVING WITHIN THE FILLER NECK THAT FAILS TO KEEP FUEL WITHIN THE TANK AND IT IS APPARENTLY ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY THE ETHANOL MIXTURE IN GASOLINE. THAT'S THE EXPLANATION ON MANY WEB SITES. I DON'T CARE WHAT CAUSES THE ISSUE BUT IT IS A POOR, DANGEROUS DESIGN. IF IT WAS A FREAK ISSUE THEN I WOULD TAKE IT IN STRIDE BUT TO FIND THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF IT AND DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT FOR MY MODEL YEAR IS APPALLING. THIS IS AN ISSUE OF A HIGHLY FLAMMABLE FUEL UNDER PRESSURE BEING PROJECTED UPWARDS TOWARD ANYONE FUELING A VEHICLE AND IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE NHTSA RECEIVED A REPORT FROM CHRYSLER THAT THE ISSUE EXISTED YET THEY WERE NOT REQUIRED TO RECALL ANY AND ALL VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE. GASOLINE IN THE EYES IS VERY PAINFUL. PERIOD. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE FROM THE GAS STATION AND HAD TO HAVE ANOTHER MOTORIST MOVE MY VEHICLE FROM THE PUMPS. MY DAUGHTER ROUTINELY STANDS BY ME WHEN "DADDY DOES THINGS" AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW I WOULD HAVE FELT IF SHE WAS THERE THAT DAY. IN MY OPINION, YOUR AGENCY WAS DEVELOPED IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE MOTORING PUBLIC FROM THIS VERY TYPE OF POOR DESIGN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND I TRUST THAT YOU WILL MAKE IT RIGHT. *TR

FUELING THE VEHICLE ALWAYS RESULTS IN FUEL SPRAY FROM THE VENT ON THE FILLER NECK. THIS SPRAY HAPPENS 100% OF FUELINGS. THE TANK IS OFTEN LESS THAN 90% FULL AFTER THIS AND REQUIRES TOPPING AND ADDITIONAL FUEL SPRAY. I HAVE HAD TO REPORT TO NAVY MEDICAL TO HAVE MY EYES FLUSHED AND CHECKED AFTER BEING SHOT DIRECTLY IN THE EYES WHILE LISTENING FOR THE DISTINCT SOUND OF FUEL BUBBLES RISING TO THE TOP OF THE FUEL FILLER NECK. THIS CAUSES ON AVERAGE 1/8 GALLON OF FUEL TO BE SPILLED PER FILL UP. OVER 40K MILES AT AN AVERAGE OF 14MPG THAT IS 22 GALLONS OF FUEL SPILLED AND MORE EVAPORATED. IF FILLING STATIONS REQUIRE SHUT OFF VALVES, AND ALL NEW VEHICLES REQUIRE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS TO CONTROL ENVIRONMENTAL AIR QUALITY, TO THE GREAT DETRIMENT OF GAS MILEAGE, WHY HAS THIS ISSUE NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? WHY DO WE HAVE TO USE SHODDY GAS CANS WITH CARB COMPLIANT NOZZLES WHICH CAUSE MORE FUEL SPILLS THAN NORMAL FUEL CONTAINERS IF THE GOVERNMENT IS PREPARED TO IGNORE THIS? OUR JEEP HAS HAD THE DEATH WOBBLE SINCE IT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN REACHING APPROXIMATELY 50MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE/OSCILLATE UNCONTROLLABLY TO WHERE IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS LANE. THE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PRESSED HEAVILY IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP AND PRESENTS A CONCERN FOR REAR END COLLISION. TO PREVENT THE WOBBLE FROM HAPPENING, THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE DRIVEN 30MPH BELOW HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT, CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS. JUST EARLIER, THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED AND WE VEERED INTO THE NEXT LANE AND ALMOST HIT A CAR. I ALSO SPRAINED MY ARM ONCE WHEN TRYING TO KEEP IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED GOING DOWN HILL. *TR
