I was driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 2 Door Willys on a 4 lane divided road approaching a stop light. The stoplight was red so I started slowing down approximately 200 feet from the intersection. I applied the brake pedal and the vehicle started to slow down. As I was approaching the intersection I could feel the vehicle accelerating and it was difficult to get it to stop. I was almost stopped approximately 3 - 5 feet from the vehicle in front of me, when the jeep lunged forward and struck the vehicle in front of me. The jeep continued to accelerate and was trying to push the vehicle in front of me. I shoved the gear shift into Park and that stopped the acceleration. I never took my foot off of the brake pedal during the entire incident. The force of the acceleration lifted the front of my vehicle and my bumper went on top of the other vehicle's bumper and dented the rear hatch of the other vehicle. There were no indicator lights before or after the incident. I drove the vehicle to my home approximately a mile from the accident without issues. I later had the vehicle towed to the CDJR dealer for inspection. After 3 weeks in the Service center, they did not find any issues and could not reproduce the problem and the vehicle was released back to me.

Over the past two days, the vehicle has intermittently displayed an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system error message while driving. At the same time, the brake pedal becomes extremely hard to press, as if the brake booster or power assist is not functioning. When this occurs, it requires significantly increased force to slow or stop the vehicle, creating a serious safety hazard. The issue appears randomly and then resolves on its own. The vehicle starts normally, but the brake assist failure and ESC warning recur intermittently without warning. No modifications have been made to the braking system. I lightly tapped my house due to the sudden loss of braking power. No accident with another vehicle or person.

While slow braking and pulling into a parking space, the jeep jerked , lunged forward and proceeded to go through the storefront glass and inside the building! 3 people were injured. The engineer was unable to pull data from the EDR due to the speed and no airbags deployed. The jeep is currently at the collision center and they are searching for a mechanic to go over it. Seems difficult to find anyone qualified to do so. I am 100% sure the jeep malfunctioned and accelerated forward. I have read of similar incidents on your site. I will never drive it again as I know it is unsafe!! I would appreciate any help you or anyone else can give me. I am currently working with my insurance company on the claims. I also hired a forensic investigator.

Yesterday 8/27/23 at 5pm I pulled into a parking lot and then into a parking space. As I came to a stop my Jeep lunged forward into the vehicle that was parked in front of me. At the time my Jeep Wrangler 4XE was operating in Hibrid mode running on electric with 49% charge left. As my Jeep came to a stop the gasoline engine started and the Jeep lunged forward striking the vehicle in front of me pushing it approximately 3 feet back before coming to a stop. This action caused significant damage to the other vehicle and minor damage to my jeep. I believe it was the abrupt start of the gasoline engine that caused the jeep to lunge forward even though my foot was on the brake. This action put me and others at risk, it was fortunate that the othe vehicle was unoccupied. I have contacted Jeep thru online email concerning this accident but at this time have not received a response. The police department was contacted and an officer responded to the scene. The officer observed the damage to both vehicles and did file an accident report. There were no warning lamps, warnings, or other symptoms of a problem prior to this incident.

On October 25th, 2025 my husband and I were driving home on the freeway. All of a sudden, without any warning notice or check engine light, my hybrid 2023 Jeep caught on fire as we were in it driving down the freeway. The fire started under the hood and under us. Flames were coming up the sides of the Jeep as we drove and were getting bigger then coming in the vents and under the hood. My husband pulled the Jeep over to the shoulder and we quickly got out and away from the Jeep and called 911 for help. Cars were still driving down the freeway as the Jeep was engulfed in flames. Our safety was put at high risk since we were driving on the freeway at highway speeds and the Jeep caught on fire without any warning and my husband and I were sitting inside the Jeep traveling while it was actively on fire and getting worse. We were located right by the fire as we were driving. It was under us, in front of us and growing around us. Others were put at risk because there was a large fire on the side of the freeway as other vehicles were driving by. A semi truck almost hit the median in the freeway when it probably noticed what was going on. Further, vehicles were driving in the right hand lane right beside the active fire. My Jeep was sparking, throwing flames and some things exploded. Jeep hybrids have had problems and my Jeep has had many recalls and problems. Stellantis was involved with the last few dealership service visits. The Jeep was not charging so a new charging system was put in it at the dealership. The Jeep had a red turtle come on as I was driving and it drastically slowed my speed down suddenly. I pulled over and then my Jeep turned off and would not start again for hours. The dealership, with Stellantis involved, put in a new rechargeable battery. These were some of the things done recently prior to my Jeep catching on fire en route in addition to many recalls/updates. There were no warning signs at all prior to his Jeep fire.

[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Oct 21 2014 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE West Building Washington, DC 20590 Subject: Urgent Safety Concern and Financial Loss Related to 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe – VIN: [XXX] ] Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally report a significant safety concern and financial hardship I have experienced as a result of owning a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe, VIN: [XXX] ]. On [XXX], while the vehicle was charging at [XXX], it caught fire. The vehicle had no pending services or recalls at the time of the incident. To my further dismay, in October 2024, Jeep issued a global recall for this model, citing battery issues. This only confirms my suspicion that the fire in my vehicle was the result of a manufacturing defect. Given the timing of the recall, I believe my incident is directly related to this defect, and the issue raises significant safety concerns. The total cost of my vehicle was approximately $78,454, and I have only driven it for about 15,000 miles. After filing an insurance claim, I was offered $45,215, which does not adequately cover the financial loss I have incurred. This leaves me at a significant financial deficit. Additionally, I have been renting a car for the last six weeks due to this incident, which has further cost me approximately $36,000. I have contacted Jeep’s customer support and created a case (number: [XXX]), but despite my efforts, I have yet to receive any meaningful response or resolution from Jeep. This situation has caused not only significant financial strain but also immense mental stress. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue thoroughly and ensure that Jeep takes responsibility for their defective vehicles. I am seeking compensation that appropriately reflects the financial losses I have suffered, ideally in the form of either a replacement INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am not sure if this is something that should be reported or not. My Jeep caught on fire in a drive thru on 5/11/23. It was only 3.5 months old and had 3,465 miles on it. I saw smoke coming from under the hood, then big black billowing smoke, when some guys got the hood open there were flames coming from behind the engine. They were able to put it out with a fire extinguisher but it caused alot of damage. It is available for inspection but I would need to know ASAP since it is at the dealer. About 3 minutes prior I was on the highway and this could have ended up so much worse as I had my two dogs with me as well. I contacted Jeep and they sent Engineering Analysis Associates/Bosch Automotive Service Solutions out to examine the car and they said "the information at hand would not permit us to associate the fire with a manufacturing or assembly error". No reason for the fire was given. Vehicle was inspected by insurance rep, investigator hired by the manufacturer. Police and fire dept were on scene at the time but did not create a report, just gave me an incident #. No warnings, messages or anything warned of the fire. I was able to drive it around to the front of the building to get it away from the building and other cars while their was smoke coming out of it. No warnings lights came on at all that I could see on the dash. I want to report this incase any other Wrangler 4XE's end up having the same issue.

I own a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe (VIN: 1C4JJXR66PW627097). The instrument cluster/dashboard intermittently shuts off while driving, resulting in complete loss of speedometer, warning indicators, and critical driver information. This creates a significant safety hazard, as I am unable to monitor vehicle speed or receive warnings while the vehicle is in motion. In January 2026, I took the vehicle to the dealership for this same issue. The instrument cluster was repaired under warranty/customer satisfaction repair. However, the exact same problem has now returned. My vehicle is not currently included in Recall 30B, but the symptoms are consistent with that recall involving instrument cluster failure. I am concerned that this defect may affect additional vehicles not currently covered. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider expanding Recall 30B to include vehicles like mine. I have video evidence showing the dashboard shutting off while driving and will provide it as part of this complaint. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ab3NkolHPv66es_vrzSiFKLN83ezv5LC

I am the original owner of a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sport with approximately 16,240 miles. The vehicle is completely unmodified. I am reporting a serious safety defect involving the steering and suspension system. When driving at highway speeds (50 mph and above), the vehicle experiences a violent front‑end oscillation whenever it encounters a bump, uneven pavement, or bridge expansion joints. The steering wheel rapidly shakes left to right, and the entire vehicle shudders for 5 to 10 seconds. The oscillation does not stop until I slow the vehicle down to below 45 mph. This issue is reproducible and occurs frequently on rough or uneven road surfaces at highway speeds. During these events, I temporarily lose the ability to maintain proper steering control, creating a dangerous situation for myself, my passengers, and other drivers. This condition is commonly referred to as “Death Wobble,” and it makes the vehicle unsafe to operate. Given the severity of this defect and the safety risk it poses, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and that Jeep/Stellantis address the defect under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (3‑year/36,000‑mile basic warranty). The front‑end suspension components—including the track bar, steering damper, ball joints, and related parts—should be inspected and repaired as necessary to eliminate this hazardous oscillation.

Parked my 2023 Wrangler 4xe for about three hours. When I started driving again the brake pedal was hard and it took way longer than normal to stop. No warning lights, no codes on the OBD reader. Toggling max regen on and off made no difference. Power cycling the vehicle didn’t fix it. Pads are warm so the calipers are engaging, but there’s very little stopping force behind them. I would guess there is an electrical issue with the regenerative breaking system or brake vacuum.

1. The Hybrid Battery , yes, Jeep is at dealer since 3/12/25. After daily calls to get updates, including voicemails and emails to service rep and Manager several times, Finally was advised on 3/25/26 (13 days) that it needs the part and will be at least 4-6 weeks more, no loaner, no info, nothing else was provided other then to call Jeep cares to file a complaint--you can imagine how that went---they referred me back to the dealer but did open a complaint/ 2. was advised car could go on fire at any time, thank God I was not driving it at the time. 3. seems its a known common problem and current recall. 4. Inspected by Rockland jeep dealer and still sitting there. 5. no warning signs prior to car not starting. car is a lease and the lease expires prior to getting the car back, I called chrysler leasing and they directed me to call the dealer, called Jeep cares and they advised still waiting on rental authorization so I can get a rental car (which I would have to pay for and trust they will reimburse me- after all this, I do not trust them) , also they said to call the dealer after opening up a case. Bottom line, I am 16 days in , with 4-6 weeks to go with no car, no options as of this claim. I pay 700 a month for this lease and I will be out 2 months---I just asked them to extend it for the 2 months on them or keep the Jeep, Chrysler advised again to call dealer as they cannot do any of that. The dealer not advising me for 2 weeks what ( per Jeep cares) takes 10 minutes to diagnose, not providing a loaner after a week calling for one. I do not know what to do other then start to call lemon law attys?
