THE CONTACT THEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SHIFT THE GEAR TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. . A TOTALED OF 5 VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TURNED OFF. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE OF THE VEHICLE WAS OCCUPIED HOWEVER NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE CAME OFF OF THE RIM FORCING US INTO THE GUARD RAIL A SECOND TIME IMPACTING THE REAR PASSENGER QUARTER PANEL OF THE VEHICLE. WE RICOCHETED OFF, CROSSED TRAFFIC AND CAME TO REST IN THE PASSING LANE BERM OF THE ROAD NEAR THE MEDIAN. WE DID NOT ROLL OVER, BUT BECAUSE OF THE FORCE OF IMPACT, SHOULDN'T THE AIR BAGS HAVE DEPLOYED? SOME OF THE PASSENGERS SUFFERED WHIPLASH AND BROKEN NOSES.

ON JANUARY 4TH, WHILE PULLING INTO A NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY, I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO STOP (I WAS GOING LESS THAN 5MPH, SO I DIDN'T NEED TO PRESS HARD) THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED HARD. I IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES HARDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION, AND MY VAN ENDED UP FIVE TO TEN FEET IN MY NEIGHBOR'S YARD. TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT MY SON'S WORK. I WAS MOVING SLOW AND STRAIGHTENING THE WHEEL APPROXIMATELY TWO TO THREE FEET FROM THE SIDEWALK CURB, WHEN THE ENGINE ACCELERATION SURGED AND MY VAN LURCHED FORWARD. I AGAIN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO NOT SLAM INTO THE BUILDING WALL JUST PAST THE SIDEWALK, THE VAN STOPPED ON TOP OF THE SIDEWALK AFTER HITTING THE CAR PARKED NEXT TO MY VAN (AS MY WHEELS WERE STILL TURNED FROM TURNING INTO THE PARKING SPACE. THE DAMAGE TO MY VAN AND THE CAR HIT BY MY VAN TOTALED OVER $10,000. IF A PEDESTRIAN HAD BEEN ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY VAN, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. BOTH TIMES THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, AND THE VAN WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 2 TO 3 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN THE ACCELERATION SURGED THE VAN FORWARD, IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD AND FAST AS IF THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN POUNDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. I HAVE CHECKED WITH MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER, WHO STATES THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN AND THEY HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT UNEXPECTED AND POWERFUL ACCELERATION ON THE DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. After opening the hood, there was more smoke coming from the engine. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine had caught fire due to a defective oil pump. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that an inspector would be sent out to perform an investigation. The vehicle remained in the possession of the mechanic. I DROVE THE VAN HOME 1/2 MILE AWAY. I PARKED THE VAN. I SAW LIGHT SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT SMELLED LIKE BURNT RUBBER. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE BACK TO SHOP 1/4 MILE AWAY. THE VAN LOST ALL POWER AT A STOP SIGN. I SAW MORE DARKER SMOKE COMING OUT. I GOT OUT OF THE VAN IMMEDIATELY. WITHIN 2 MINUTES THE VANS FRONT END WAS IN FLAMES.

WHILE WE GOT HOME THEN HAD TO LEAVE AGING TO GO GET THE KIDS FROM SCHOOL THE BATTERY WAS DEAD KNOW WHEN I SAY DEAD THROUGH ALL OF THIS I MEAN THEIR WAS ENOUGH POWER TO HAVE THE VAN DOORS OPEN AND LIGHTS ON BUT NOT ENOUGH POWER TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER TILL IT CLICKS. SO HOOKED UP TO MY TRUCK JUMPED IT.SEEM TO DRIVE FINE SO WE WENT BACK TO AUTOZONE AND THEY CHANGED IT OUT WITH THE WARRANTY AND TESTED IT THEY SAID IT WAS A GOOD BATTERY BUT TO BE ON SAFE SIDE. WELL I STARTED TO DRIVE THE VAN I HAD TO GET JUMPED 4 TIMES BEFORE I STARTED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY WHEN IT WAS WARM OUT THE BATTERY WOULD LAST BUT ON THE COLD NIGHTS THE BATTERY WOULD STILL DIE. SO ONE DAY I SAID SREW IT I WENT TO DRIVE IT AND IT JUST WOULD START BELIEVE IT OR NOT I ONLY TOOK OFF THE AIR FILTER THINKING MAYBE IT CLOGGED WHILE I DID THAT AND TRIED STARTING IT IT BACK FIRED OUT THROUGH THE INTAKE CAUSING A FIRE ON THE AIR FILTER BOX PUT IT OUT SAID HELL WITH IT IT'S GOING TO THE DODGE DEALER IN WILKESBORO NC I PAID 1,700 TO HAVE THE TIPM REPLACED THEY SAID THAT'S WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT SO I SAID OKAY. HERE IT IS A YEAR LATER AND NOW I AM GETTING A LITTLE UPSET AROUND THE SAME TIME IT WENT OUT LAST YEAR AND MY VAN IS STARTING TO GIVE ME THE SAME ISSUES SO I AM GOING TO HOPE THAT IT ISNT THAT BUT JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE THIS IS FOR LAST YEAR AND IF I HAVE TO PAY THAT PRICE AGING YES I'LL BE MAKING A NEW COMPLAINT TO

USING SOME CLIPPERS WE WERE ABLE TO CUT THE BATTERY CABLE AND EVERY THING STOPPED WE COOLED THINGS DOWN WITH SOME SNOW.ALL THIS ONLY 3 FT. FROM OUR HOUSE DODGE ESTIMATED ABOUT $1800.00 TO FIX WHAT COULD BE SEEN AND MOST LIKELY MORE WOULD SHOW UP LATER. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL ON THIS CAR. MY WIFE AND I ARE BOTH DISABLED AND I NEED A VAN TO CARRY MY WHEEL CHAIR WHEN I GO TO THE DOCTOR,ETC.WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THE CAR AND STILL MAKE PAYMENTS I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE AND OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, BUT THEY SAY IT IS OUR PROBLEM.
