MY SON WAS KILLED IN HIS 2006 FORD 150 PICKUP TRUCK DRIVING 45 MILES AN HOUR. HIS TRUCK APPARENTLY LEFT THE ROAD WITH NO SIGNS OF BRAKES BEING APPLIED, FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. HIS INSURANCE COMPANY WAS THREATENING ME TO RELEASE THE TRUCK FROM STORAGE WHICH I DID. I HAVE SINCE REGAINED MY SENSES ENOUGH TO SEARCH THE WEB AND SEE THAT THERE WERE MANY RECALLS ON THE BRAKE LINES OF THIS MAKE TRUCK. *TR

I WAS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY VEHICLE. IT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION AND MY AIRBAG DID NOT FULLY DEPLOY. THOUGH I WAS TRAVELLING THE SPEED LIMIT, HAD I BEEN ON A FREEWAY AND GOING THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT I THINK I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE LIBABLE INSURANCE COMPANY ENCOURAGED ME TO CONTACT FORD TO SEE IT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE. THERE WERE NOT WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

5:30 pm 4/12/21 was driving home from umpiring a baseball game, drove threw intersection when suddenly I was thrown into passenger seat of my truck, the next thing I know im stopped in front of a tree with a telephone pole on the hood of my truck with no idea what or how this happened. I was lucky no one was coming the opposite direction on the 2 lane road cause I wouldn't have been able to control truck even at 40mph, another 5min and I would have been on the interstate going 65mph and surely I'd be dead. After a week I was able to go out and look at my truck thats when I noticed the flat front passenger tire was flat and the inner ring of the rim came off. I had an accident investigator look at it , I hired a lawyer and a metallurgical expert to examine rim. There was no warning the rims were still new.

WHEN MY TRUCK FINALLY CAUGHT TRACTION IT SHOT ME TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT DID THE SAME THING. SLIDING THE BACK END OUT. THIS TIME I WAS SLIDING PERPENDICULAR TO THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN MY TRUCK FOUND SOMETHING SOLID TO STOP THE SLIDE IT STARTED TO ROLL. DURING THE CRASH I WAS THROWN THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AFTER THE FIRST ROLL AND KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS. AFTER I WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL I WENT TO COLLECT THE THINGS FROM MY TRUCK THAT HAD BEEN PICKED UP. WHEN I GOT TO THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT NON OF MY AIRBAGS HADN'T DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A PRETTY SERIOUS CRASH THAT TOTALED MY TRUCK. THE CAB AND BED OF THE TRUCK WERE BOTH CRUMPLED BUT NOT A SINGLE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY WHO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY PROVIDED NO REASON AS TO WHY THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO AIR BAG RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AFTER THE CRASH HAPPENED TO DETERMINE IF THEY MAY BE ABLE TO INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I AM 6'5" AND WEAR SIZE 16 SHOES. WITH MY SIZE AND THE DISTANCE TO THE PEDAL MY LEGS GO A LITTLE TO THE SIDE AND MY SHOE IS AT AN ANGLE TO THE PETALS LETS SAY 30 DEGREES. I WEARING TYPICAL WORK BOOT (LIKE IN FORD COMMERCIALS) WHICH THE LACES HAVE PEGS THE SHOE LACES GO AROUND. THESE PEGS ARE THE SAME AS ALL WORK BOOTS (RED WINGS - $300 BOOT). WHAT HAPPENED IS BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS A THICK RUBBER PAD THAT STRETCHES AROUND THE METAL BRAKE PEDAL AND LEAVES A RIDGE IN THE BACK OF THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY AROUND (SO THE RUBBER FITTING GOES OVER IT LIKE A SHOWER CAP). ALSO THE TRUCK IS AN AUTOMATIC AND THE BREAK PEDAL IS VERY LARGE. WHILE BACKING UP GIVING JUST A LITTLE GAS MY BOOT SHOE LACE PEG GOT TRAPPED BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS HOLDING MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL DEPRESSING IT DOWN. BECAUSE THE RUBBER RIDGE RUNS ALL THE WAY AROUND MY PEDAL (AS DESIGNED) I COULD NOT MOVE MY FOOT TO THE SIDE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO RELEASE THE GAS. BECAUSE OF THE THICKNESS OF MY FOOT WHEN I PRESSED THE BREAK WITH MY OTHER FOOT, IT MOVES THE GAS PEDAL DOWN AT THE SAME RATE AS MY FOOT IS TRAPPED, SO THE MORE YOU PRESS THE BRAKE THE MORE YOU GIVE GAS AT A RATIO THAT DOES NOT LET ME STOP THE VEHICLE. (NOTE I USE ONLY ONE FOOT FOR THE GAS AND BRAKE NORMALLY BUT WITH MY RIGHT FOOT TRAPPED I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO USE MY LEFT FOOT TO BRAKE AND TRY TO GET IT THE TRUCK OUT OF GEAR . I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING IN TIME AND HIT A STATIONARY BUILDING. IF SOMEONE WAS BEHIND ME, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE ONLY OTHER WAY I COULD HAVE GOTTEN MY FOOT LOOSE IS TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL WHICH IS NOT AN OPTION IN A LOT OF SITUATIONS BECAUSE IT WOULD MAKE THE SPEED OF THE IMPENDING IMPACT FASTER AND HARDER. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT TRAPS WORK BOOTS AND AT CERTAIN TIMES AND CAUSES LOOSE CONTROL. *TR
