ON OCTOBER 6, 2001 I EXPERIENCED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I GOT IN TO THE VEHICLE TO BACK IT UP. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE REVVING. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BACK TIRES BEGAN TO SPIN AND SMOKE, I SOMEWHAT TURNED AROUND IN MY SEAT TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. AS I TURNED BACK AROUND, I LOOKED DOWN AT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN PUSH ON IT REALLY HARD TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE REAR TIRES STILL SPUN, AND SMOKE WAS EVERYWHERE. WITH THE BRAKE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, I HEAR A CLUNK NOISE AND THE VEHICLE SHOT BACKWARDS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND HIT A VEHICLE THAT WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET BEHIND THE JEEP. IF THE OTHER VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN THERE I WOULD HAVE GONE OVER A RETAINING WALL WITH A DROP OFF ON THE OTHER SIDE.*AK
CAR WAS IN PARK IDILING WHEN I GOT OUT TO ACCESS MAIL. CAR JUMPED OUT OF PARK AND BEGAN GOING IN REVERSE. IT CONTINUED TO PICK UP SPEED AND WAS GOING IN A CIRCLE WITH THE DRIVERS DOOR OPEN. I WAS HIT, NOCKED TO THE GROUND AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO PICK UP SPEED. NEIGHBOR RESPONDED AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCESS CAR BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CAR MADE THREE CIRCLES IN THE CUL-DE-SAC AND THEN HIT THE MAIL BOX. FINIALLY A MAN WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE CAR AND GET IT STOPPED, I WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 5 DAYS WITH HEAD INJURY REQUIRING STITCHES AND OFF WORK AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITH VERTIGO WHICH IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM DESPITE TREATMENT AT A REHAB FACILITY. I ALSO HAD A FRACTURED WRIST AND SEVERE CONTUSIONS AND ABRASIONS OF THE FACE.*AK
CAR KNOCKED DRIVER UNDER CAR AS CAR STARTED TO ROLLAWAY IN REVERSE WHILE CAR WAS IN PARK.*AK
HAD A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT BACK IN 1993 SUDDEN ACCELERATION, I WAS INJURED I HAD SURGERY ON BOTH MY HANDS DUE TO THIS ACCIDENT, IT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD. I HAVE BEEN HOPING THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE CORRECTED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED BECAUSE OF A TERRIBLE DEFECT IN THESE JEEPS. PLEASE CONTACT ME I READ THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS FINALLY CHECKING THIS PROBLEM OUT ITS ABOUT TIME. PLEASE FIND THIS PROBLEM I STILL HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME THAT DAY. I ONLY HAD THE JEEP NOT EVEN 24 HOURS WHEN IT TOOK OFF ON ME IN A PARKING LOT I CLIMBED ON TOP OF A PARK CAR AND TOOK OFF GOING WEST IN THE EAST BOUND TRAFFIC WITH A CAR UNDER ME YOU JUST CAN'T IMAGINE. THEN ALL I HEARD WAS THE ENGINE THRUSTING GOING FASTER AND FASTER LET ME TELL YOU THOSE JEEPS ARE VERY POWERFUL YOU JUST CAN'T IMAGINE. I WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR WITH A CAR UNDERNEATH ME/ FINALLY THE CAR UNDER MY JEEP CAME LOSE AND SLAMPED INTO A STORE WINDOW AND ALMOST KILLED THE GIRL AT THE FRONT DESK THANK GOD IT JUST MISSED HER THERE WAS ABOUT $90,000 DOLLARS TO THIS OFFICE AND REPLACING THE CAR THAT I SMASHED AND THE DAMAGE TO MY JEEP. PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ME I HAVE PICTURES AND I MADE THE FRONT PAGE OF THE NEWSPAPER. NO ONE WATCHING COULD BELIEVE WHAT WAS FLYING DOWN THE STREET. THE WAS A COP ACROSS THE STREET IN A RESTAURANT IN SAID IN THE NEWSPAPER IN COULD NOT BELIEVE HE'S EYES WHAT HE WAS SEEING. A JEEP WITH A CAR UNDER IT GOING WEST IN THE EAST BOUND TRAFFIC AT LUNCH TIME WHEN IT WAS VERY BUSY THE ROADS. I ALSO HAVE WITTNESS. I HOPE SOME DAY THERE WILL BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND I HOPE THAT YOU FIND OUT VERY SOON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK THE JEEP BACK THAT DAY AND I REFUSED TO KEEP IT SO THEY GAVE ME ANOTHER JEEP I DIDN'T WANT THAT ONE EITHER BECAUSE I WAS SO AFRAID OF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENING AGAIN BUT THE DEALERSHIP GARY FRONRATH REFUSED TO GIVE ME BACK MY CAR THEY SAID IS WAS SOLD ALREADY, WHICH WAS IMPOSSIBLE. DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH MADE A SUDDEN STOP AND REAR ENDED VEHICLE, DIRECT FRONTAL HIT. DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY,CAUSING INJURIES TO CHEST AND SHOULDER, AND $4000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO FRONT END ALONE.
