CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SUDDEN VEHICLE ACCELERATION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INTO THE REAR OF A TRUCK, FLIPPED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND ROLLED APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. AFTER BACKING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE PERSON BEHIND THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK AND PINNED UNDERNEATH THE TIRES. THE VICTIM WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE GARAGE AND TRAVELED UP A THREE FOOT HIGH CONCRETE WALL BEHIND THE GARAGE WHERE IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ONE TEN TOWING AND THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

The contact owned a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while her nephew was driving at 51 MPH, a drunk driver in the opposite direction nearly caused a head-on collision. The contact's nephew veered to the left, but the other driver's vehicle swiped the rear passenger door and rear quarter panel. The vehicle jerked and flipped three times before landing on its roof in a residential yard. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's nephew was unharmed, but the contact's son and a third passenger were injured. The contact's son was transported by ambulance to the hospital with a fractured neck, but the right vertebral artery was unable to be detected. The third passenger was airlifted to the hospital with a fractured sternum and internal bleeding after a plastic piece from the front passenger seat dislodged and struck the third passenger's chest. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.

The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space with the foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel and crashed into a building. During the crash the air bag deployed and the driver sustained injuries to the head back and neck which required medical treatment. NOT ONE SINGLE AIRBAG DEPLOYED DURING THE INCIDENT, INCLUDING THE SIDE-IMPACT AIRBAGS FORM THE COLLISION ITSELF NOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS FROM THE MULTIPLE ROLLOVERS. WHEN I ASKED JEEP TO INVESTIGATE, I WAS SENT A LETTER ESSENTIALLY SAYING: "YOUR ACCIDENT WASN'T SEVERE ENOUGH TO WARRANT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT." - THIS DESPITE, AS I SAID, IT BEING A MULTIPLE ROLLOVER EVENT. MY INJURIES CONSISTED OF SORENESS ON MY LEFT SIDE, A LACERATION ON MY RIGHT HAND, AND A HECK OF A BUMP ON MY HEAD. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE MY INJURIES WEREN'T WORSE; HOWEVER, MYSELF AND PRACTICALLY EVERYONE ELSE INCLUDING THE OFFICERS AND EMTS WERE BAFFLED AT THE FACT THAT NOT ONE SINGLE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. MY 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS REPEATEDLY INCURRED SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TIPM (MODULE) WHICH CONTROLS THE CAR'S QUAD AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY SKINNER AND DAMULIS, RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (AT LEAST) SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AT GREAT EXPENSE - WITH NO APPARENT RESOLUTION BUT TO INCUR REPAIRS COSTS IN EXCESS OF $10,000. THE 8/6/17 INCIDENT TOO, DEALT WITH THE DEFECTIVE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WHICH, THIS TIME, CAUSED THE REAR WHEEL TO FALL OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. MY WIFE AND I INCURRED INJURIES, HOWEVER, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED. JUST TWO DAYS AGO, THE CAR'S SUSPENSION SYSTEM LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. PICTURES WERE TAKEN, I CALLED THE AUTO DEALER, HOWEVER, I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM. IN REVIEWING FILED COMPLAINTS COUPLED WITH A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT, THIS IS ALL TO FAMILIAR, HOWEVER, CHRYSLER AND THEIR DEALERS' REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FULL SUPPORT FROM CHRYSLER. IF THIS WAS THE CASE, WHY DID I CRACK THE CONCRETE BARRIER, BURN RUBBER INTO THE ASPHALT SO MUCH THAT MY WHEELS MADE DEEP BLACK MARKS ON THE ROAD AND MY ENTIRE FRONT BUMPER ALL THE WAY TO THE RAILS WERE COMPLETELY CRUSHED. WOULD 5MPH CAUSE $7,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE? I DON'T THINK SO. IN ADDITION MY SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK UPON IMPACT. MY HEAD SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL BEFORE THE SEATBELT LOCKED RESULTING IN WHIPLASH. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING FIXED BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH THAT CAR NOR SELLING IT TO ANYONE ELSE, LEST THIS HAPPEN. WHAT IF A FAMILY BUYS THIS CAR AND DIES DUE TO THIS?
