S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING-LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM COMPLAINT REGARDING A 1996 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE WAS REAR ENDED WHILE DRIVING. UPON IMPACT, THE REAR OF THE JEEP WHERE THE GAS TANK WAS LOCATED IMMEDIATELY BURST INTO FLAMES. THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS BURNED TO DEATH. THE CONSUMER STATED THE JEEP WAS DESIGNED WITH AN UNPROTECTED FUEL TANK LOCATED IN THE MOST VULNERABLE POSITION BEHIND THE AXLE AND BELOW THE BUMPER WITH NO TYPE OF PROTECTION.*JB UPDATED 10/06/10*JB
WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION THE REAR OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS STRUCK BY AN ISUZU, DRIVEN APPROCIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR. THE CRASH RESULTED IN A FIRE IN THE REAR OF THE CHEROKEE AND THE DRIVER OF THE ISUZU BEING BURNED TO DEATH. PLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK WAS CLAIMED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POST ACCIDENT FIRE. *DT *JB
ON JANUARY 24,2014 MY WIFE WAS A FATALITY AFTER A 45 M.P.H. COLLISION WITH A GUARDRAIL BUTT, THEN ROLLING OVER AFTER THE INITIAL IMPACT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER ON INITIAL IMPACT OR THE ROLLOVER. SHE WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT. HAS THERE EVER BEEN A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES PERTAINING TO THESE AIR BAGS FAILING? MY WIFE MAY STILL BE ALIVE TODAY IF NOT FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR
DRIVING ALONG NORMALLY, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY WIFE FLIPPED OUT ON ME FOR NO GOOD REASON. STOPPED THE JEEP. SHE GOT OUT. SAID SHE WAS LEAVING ME AND THE KIDS. NOW UNABLE TO LOCATE MY GIRLFRIEND. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED IN SUMMARY. *AK
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION IN WHICH VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO THE POSITION OF FUEL TANK. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
CONSUMER WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND ANOTHER CAR RAN A RED LIGHT HITTING CONSUMER ON THE LEFT FRONT. A FEW MOMENTS AFTERWARD THE JEEP BURST INTO FLAMES. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED (AFTER INSPECTING) BUT WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE REASON WHY THEY DID NOT. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED INTERMITTENTLY BEFORE THE CRASH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 136,000.
DURING IMPACT ACCIDENT,HIT DEER, PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING CHEMICAL BURNS AND INJURIES TO LOWER EXTREMITY. *AK
THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, IT STRUCK A TREE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH IMPACT TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAGS. THE FRONT GRILL WAS PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE. *AK *SC
THE VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF GEAR, STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A MAIL BOX . AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL FOR THE EXISTING CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS WORN. *JB RECALL# 02V053000. *SC
CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IF A DRIVER HAS NOT PLACED THE SHIFTER LEVER FULLY INTO THE "PARK" POSITION AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE MAY UNEXPECTEDLY MOVE REARWARD AFTER SEEMING TO BE STABLE. THIS RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED ON 2003 AND FAILED. THE CONSUMER CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY STARTED MOVING BACKWARDS WHILE IDLING IN PARK GEAR AND THEN CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT EXAMINE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION.*AK *JB
I WAS HAVING BRAKE TROUBLE WITH THE CHEROKEE AND FOR A MONTH I KNEW I HAD TO GET BRAKE PADS ON MY TRUCK 1996 GRAND CHEROKEE. ON AUGUST 21, 2003 I WAS IN CAR ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSED ME TO LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT BE ABLE TO GAIN IT BACK I WENT UP ON TWO AND CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN THE TRUCK OVER THREE TIMES AND I CAME OUT OF THE SEAT BELT AND LANDED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I DID HAVE ON MY SEAT BELT BUT CAME UP OUT OF IT. I THINK THE ROTORS MAY HAVE BEEN CORRDID AND HELPED WITH THE ACCIDENT MY SECOND CONCERN IS HOW I WAS ABLE TO COME OUT OF THE SEATBELT AND BECOME SEVERELY INJURED. I SHATTERED MY LEG AND HAD TO RELEARN TO WALK. I JUST WENT THROUGH MY SECOND SURGERY PERTAINING TO THIS ACCIDENT. WHAT STEPS DO I NEED TO GO THROUGH IN ORDER TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE SEATBELT ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT IT DIDNT SECURE ME FROM THE ACCIDENT. MY HEAD STILL WENT INTO THE WINDSHILED AND I THINK SOMETHING HAPPENED WITH THE AIR BAGS AS WELL BECAUSE THEY WERE TORN BY THE TIME THE TRUCK STOPPED ROLLED AND MY HEAD ISTILL WENT INTO THE WINDOWSHIELD AND WAS CUT UP BAD. *AK
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE WAS HIT AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS WAS AN HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT. *AK
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON INTERSTATE 81 SOUTH AND SLID ON ICE WHICH MADE ME HIT AT GUARD RAIL AT A HIGH SPEED AND FLIP THE VEHICLE. AT IMPACT AT LEAST 40 M.P.H. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*JB
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM THE REAR TRAVELING APPROX. 62-71 MPH ACCORDING TO POLICE CALCULATIONS. REAR END COLLISON RESULTED IN DRIVER SIDE FRONT SEAT/SEATBACK COLLAPSING TO THE REAR JUST AFTER IMPACT. IS THE SEAT SUPPOSE TO COLLAPSE FROM THIS TYPE OF REAR END COLLISON OR IS IT A DEFECT? SHOULD THE SEAT HAVE STAYED IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION? THE COLLAPSING OF THE SEAT MAY HAVE SAVED THE OCCUPANTS LIFE. DOES THE SAFETY BOARD TEST THESE TYPES OF REAR END ACCIDENTS AT THESE SPEEDS TO TEST THE INTEGRITY OF THE SEATS? MR
I HAD MY CAR IN PARK WHEN THE CAR PROCEEDED TO GO BACK BY ITSELF WITH MY CHILD IN IT.I RAN AFTER THE CAR AND THE CAR DRAGGED AND SCRAPED ME AND SMASHED MY RIGHT LEG.IT STOP WHEN IT HIT MY NEIGHBOORS FENCE. IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE FENCE IT WOULD HAVE RAN ME OVER.I CONTECTED THE MANUFAUTURE AND THEY SEND SOME ONE OUT TO INVESTICATE AND PROCEDED TO TELL MY THAT THIER WS NOTHING I COULD DO.I CONTACTED SEVERAL ATTORNEYS AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I FEEL THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR TO KEEP MY CHILDREN SAFE. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN PLEASE HELP.
DRIVER LOST CONTROL, VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD INTO TREES AND THEN ROLLED OVER. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. CONSUMER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.*AK *JG
I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHEN I TRIED TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR THAT SLID INTO MY LANE. THE BACK PART OF THE JEEP HIT A TELEPHONE POLE AND THEN I SLID IN THE ICE AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON. POLICE ESTIMATED THE SPEED I HIT AT WAS 30 MPH. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND MY SEAT BELT DIDN'T LOCK UP WHEN THE BRAKE WAS ON SO I HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND STEERING WHEEL. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND IDLING, IT STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS AND KNOCKED OWNER TO THE GROUND, ROLLING OVER THE BOTTOM PORTION OF HER LEFT CALF MUSCLE AND CAUSING SEVERAL BRUISES, VEHICLE ROLLED ACROSS A SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY, AND WAS STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL, DEALERSHIP WAS IN POSSESSION OF VEHICLE, BUT HAS NOT INFORMED CONSUMER AS TO ANY FINDINGS, CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM HAS SINCE OCCURED ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS, IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP, SINCE THIS INCIDENT THE VEHICLEHAS BEEN LEAKING WHEN IT RAINS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, MOST LIKELY A RESULT OF THE IMPACT.*JG *NLM
