A RELATIVELY MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON MAY 18, 2002. COMING DOWN THE EXIT RAMP OF THE INTERSTATE, PROCEEDED THROUGH ON THE GREEN LIGHT, ABOUT 35 MPH. AT THE INTERSECTION MY JEEP IMPACTED WITH THE OTHER CAR IN A GLANCING BLOW. THE OTHER CAR COMING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. MY LEFT FRONT CORNER AGAINST THEIR RIGHT FRONT SIDE. BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO REST, AN ENGINE FIRE ERUPTED MY 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE FIRE COMPLETELY CONSUMED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT; ALL WIRING, HOSES AND SOME METAL PARTS MELTED. THE FIRE APPEARED TO ERUPT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE. . THE FIRST RESPONDER, LOCAL PD, EFFORTS TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WERE FUTILE. THE FIRE QUICKLY BEGAN TO ENTER PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPT RESPONDED AND EXTINGUISHED. CAR IS TOTALED. FIRE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.*AK .

ELLEN ROMETT, (WIFE) IN AN ATTEMPT TO MOVE OUR 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE GRAND LMT. FORWARD IN THE DRIVEWAY A FEW FEET, PLACED THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AT HIGH SPEED THROUGH THE YARD FENCE, SHE IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKE, HOWEVER THE CAR CONTINUED TO TRAVEL AN ADDITIONAL 34 FEET AND FINALLY CAME TO STOP AFTER HITTING A LARGE CHERRY TREE. GRASS AND DRIVEWAY MARKINGS VALIDATE HER ATTEMPT TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE AND THE FACT THAT THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED EVEN AFTER BRAKING. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. INJURIES TO MY WIFE APPEAR TO BE MINIMAL, HOWEVER, THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE JEEP CHEROKEE AND $1400 IN PROPERTY DAMAGE. *NLM

I WAS SITTING AT RED LIGHT WHEN I WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY FORD PASSANGER VAN AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED PRIOR TO ACCIDENT THE BACK SEATS WERE DOWN BECAUSE IT WAS BEING USE IN THE UTILITY SINCE OF THE SUV TITLE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I WAS SRUCK THE RECLINING SEAT BACK COLLAPSED AT THE SAME TIME THE BACK SEAT BEGAN RIGHTING ITSELF DUE TO THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT AS I WAS HURLED BACK WITH NO SEAT BACK TO STOP ME I STRUCK MY HEAD ON THE RISING BACK SEAT TOP A RIGID BOARD COVERED IN CLOTH THIS DEFECT HAS CAUSED BRAIN DAMAGE TO ME OF VARYING SORTS THIS SEAT HAS ONLY ONE RECLING GEAR EVEN THOUGH YOUR OFFICE SUGGESTED TO THE INDUSTRY PRIOR TO1994 THROUGH A STUDY AT THE UNIV. OF VIRGINIA I AM(WAS) A 220 LB. BODY BUILDER I WAS REACHING ACCROSS TO THE OTHER SEAT AT POINT OF IMPACT THE TEETH MAY NOT EVEN HAVE HAD TO SHEER OFF THE TWISTING FORCE MAY JUST HAVE PULLED TOP TEETH OUT OF BOTTOM TEETH UNLOCKING ENTIRE MECHANISM EITHER WAY WHEN I OPENED MY EYES AFTER THE IMPACT I WAS LAYING FLAT DOWN IN THE MOST RECLINED POSITION I STARTED OUT INA NORMAL UPRIGHT POSITON PLEASE HELP JEEP ADVERTISES TO GUYS JUST LIKE ME A ROUGH TOUGH VEHICLE THAT CAN GET YOU THROUGH ANYTHING AND THEN THEY PUT A SEAT IN THAT WON'T PROTECT THE VERY MARKET THEY ADVERTISE TO THANKYOU FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR BEING HERE TO REPORT THIS TO. THE JEEP CHEROKEE IN QUESTION WAS PARKED IN THE OWNER'S GARAGE. WHEN A VISITOR STARTED IT, IT IMMEDIATELY JUMPED INTO REVERSE AND FLEW ATA HIGH SPEED OUT OF THE GARGAGE. THIS CAUSED IT TO CROSS A STREET, HIT A RETAINING WALL AND A MAIN WATERLINE. THE COLLAPSE OF THE WALL MADE THE NEIGHBOR'S GARAGE DOOR FALL OFF THE HINGES. HER CAR WAS STUCK INSIDE FOR OVER A WEEK AND SHE WAS WITHOUT WATER UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. THE 1995 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WAS TOTALED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES AND HAS BEEN TREATED BY A DOCTOR.*AK

VEHICLE WAS IN PARK POSITION, IDLING, WHEN IT JUMPED INTO REVERSE POSITION AND RAN OVER A FRIEND WHO WAS TAKING A NIGHT DEPOSIT FOR A BUSINESS. THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DAMAGED AS THE VEHICLE STOPPED AGAINST A CURB IN THE BANK PARKING LOT AND OCCURRED AROUND MIDNIGHT WHEN NO OTHERS WERE IN THE PARKING LOT. SHE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHEAST GEORGIA MEDICAL CENTER WHERE SHE WAS TREATED FOR RELATED INJURIES ON ANOTHER DATE AS WELL. SHE WAS THEN SEEN BY DR. RIOS WHO WAS THE WORKMAN'S COMP. DOCTOR. SHE HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM HIS CARE BUT STILL SUFFERS FROM NECK PROBLEMS AND ANXIETY ABOUT IT HAPPENING AGAIN. WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED SO WE CAN ELIMINATE THAT FEAR. WE WERE NOT AT ALL SURE WHY THIS HAPPENED, BUT WHEN WE SAW INFO ON A POSSIBLE RECALL ON THE INTERNET THAT DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED, WE FELT IT NECESSARY TO REPORT OUR INCIDENT. *AK
